Argiope bruennichi. Questa è la femmina e il solo corpo misura 2 cm. E' diffuso in tutta Europa, in Italia lo si trova dappertutto anche sulle isole maggiori. Non è pericoloso. Crea la ragnatela in cespugli, rovi, arbusti poco al di sopra del terreno. E' un ragno sedentario che vive sulla ragnatela sia di giorno che di notte. Il maschio è molto più piccolo non supera i 7-8 mm. Ha un colore sul marrone uniforme al contrario della femmina molto appariscente. Purtroppo il suo destino è triste. Durante l'accoppiamento diventa preda della femmina. Spesso nella fase copulatoria viene aggredito, se è lesto a scappare ci rimette qualche arto. Dopo poco ritorna, per finire l'atto, ahimè, ma questa volta ci rimette la vita dopo averla data. Parafrasando George Bataille "l'orgasmo è l'accettazione della vita fin dentro la morte".
