Senza punti di riferimento non si riesce ad avere idea delle dimensioni, ma è sufficiente un'auto in lontananza, intuibile solo con il teleobiettivo, per far capire che ci si sta muovendo su estensioni immense. Lo sguardo non ostacolato da nulla, il panorama piatto in cui elemento dominante è l'assenza, l'aria rarefatta e completamente asciutta, ingannano i sensi al punto che i giganti davanti a noi sembrano facilmente raggiungibili, mentre si trovano ad una cinquantina di chilometri. Neanche nell'ovest degli Stati Uniti, in Alaska, in Canada od in Australia, in cui gli spazi sono certamente giganteschi rispetto a quelli della nostra piccola Europa, ho mai avuto questa sensazione in maniera così accentuata. Come riferimento per le dimensioni si noti che il puntino nero in basso a destra nella foto è una delle grandi jeep per turisti e che la foto è stata scattata con il teleobiettivo a 200mm. e non con un grandangolare da panorami.
