Situato ai piedi della parete Nord dello Jôf di Montasio (2754 metri) alla quota di 1900 m, il ghiacciaio del Montasio è il più basso dell'arco alpino. E' alimentato da precipitazioni nevose e dalle numerose valanghe che scendono dalle pareti circostanti e che contribuiscono ad aumentare ulteriormente lo spessore della neve nel periodo invernale. Il ghiacciaio risulta essere uno degli ultimi baluardi glaciali delle Alpi a resistere ancora a quote così basse. Incastonato in un ambiente di rara bellezza, testimone di un tempo passato, è in grado di affascinare chiunque abbia modo di raggiungerlo.
