In provincia di Biella si trova Candelo, ove è ancora esistente e perfettamente conservato il "Ricetto", un caratteristico borgo medievale; tali strutture anticamente sorgevano al centro dei borghi, erano cinte da mura e vi si accumulavano i beni del signore locale o della popolazione e vi ci si poteva rifugiare in caso di attacchi dall'esterno, tutt'altro che infrequenti in quei tempi.
