Nel 1952 Battista Pininfarina,brillante designer torinese,decise di rappresentare il futuro avveniristico dell'automobile ispirandosi alle fusoliere dei primi jet di quegli anni. Fu così che per la prima volta,con molto orgoglio,Pininfarina siglò la Lancia Aurelia con le sue iniziali "PF". La Lancia Aurelia PF 200 spider fece subito parlare di sè. Questa vettura sportiva aperta aspirava ad entrare nel mercato statunitense,per questo la presa d'aria mascherina anteriore tondeggiante e' simile a quella dei jet americani. La creazione di Pininfarina si fece notare fin da subito,interamente costruita a mano e personalizzabile secondo le varie richieste degli acquirenti,la forma della coda e' molto prolungata e contribuisce ad aumentare le già generose dimensioni del corpo vettura(circa 5 metri). Appartiene alle "fuoriserie Aurelia" realizzate dal 1950 al 1958(magnifici esemplari fuori dall'ordinario creati appositamente per concorsi d'eleganza assai in voga in quei tempi). La vettura venne apprezzata per la sua originalità anche da esponenti del mondo dello spettacolo,tanto da essere acquistata dall'attore e cantante italiano Renato Rascel. Solo cinque furono i modelli costruiti in tutto il mondo.
