All'epoca, la marcia dei soldati era scandita dal rullo dei tamburi: anche nella rievocazione storica, numerosi erano i tamburini presenti. La battaglia vide schierati dai 35.000 ai 40.000 uomini da parte dei francesi e 30.000 da parte delle truppe Sabaude e alla fine si contarono 1.800 caduti tra i francesi e ben 12.000 tra caduti, feriti e catturati nelle file dell'esercito Sabaudo.
