http://www.geniusloci.photo/?p=2418 Mi trovavo nel Parco della Maremma, un luogo in gran parte incontaminato situato nella fascia costiera della Toscana meridionale, intento ad osservare tra le dune tracce del passaggio notturno di daini, cinghiali e volpi, tra gli aromi intensi della macchia mediterranea. Nonostante fosse tardo pomeriggio, il sole era ancora piuttosto alto sull'orizzonte. Percorse alcune centinaia di metri decisi di addentrarmi all'interno, nel fitto della vegetazione costiera: una zona ricca d'ombra con alcuni spazi soleggiati; montato un flash con un piccolo diffusore e inserita l'opzione dell'alta velocità mi sentii pronto ad incontri in ogni condizione di luce. Mentre costeggiavo lentamente un canale dalle acque limpide notai, su grossi rami secchi appena affioranti, garzette ed aironi cenerini in caccia. Un cormorano poco distante perlustrava i fondali riemergendo di tanto in tanto per scrutare con sguardo attento le sponde e controllare non vi fossero pericoli. Sono le volpi l'insidia principale da cui guardarsi: questo predatore è particolarmente diffuso nel Parco ed alcune di loro hanno imparato a non temere l'uomo approfittando del regime di protezione assoluto della riserva. Giunto in una piccola radura priva di alberi, una serie prolungata di ringhi e guaiti richiamarono immediatamente la mia attenzione. Si trattava di due volpi in contesa, forse per questioni territoriali o a causa di una preda che però nella concitazione non riuscivo ad individuare. Quando le ho scorte il loro combattimento stava ormai volgendo al termine con uno dei due contendenti che aveva preso il sopravvento. Un marcato controluce rendeva particolarmente duri i contrasti e dovetti decidere in una frazione di secondo se disattivare il flash o impiegarlo come luce di schiarita. Se avessi sfruttato la luminosità naturale della scena avrei ottenuto due sagome scure, certo suggestive, ma mi sarei esposto al rischio di uno scatto con soggetti poco riconoscibili poiché nel corso della disputa le sagome avrebbero potuto sovrapporsi o ripiegarsi su se stesse penalizzando la leggibilità. Decisi allora di ricorrere al flash a complemento della luce ambiente in modo da svelare dettagli significativi, come aggressività e paura nelle loro espressioni convulse.
