La Notte delle Lanterne di Hoi An è uno degli eventi più suggestivi del Hoi An Lantern Festival, celebrato nella città storica di Hoi An. Ogni mese, durante la luna piena del calendario lunare vietnamita, il centro storico spegne quasi tutte le luci elettriche e si illumina soltanto con migliaia di lanterne colorate di seta e carta. Le strade, i templi e le case antiche riflettono luci rosse, gialle, blu e arancioni sul fiume Thu Bon, creando un’atmosfera molto romantica e tranquilla. Durante la festa: * si accendono lanterne galleggianti sul fiume come simbolo di fortuna e pace; * musicisti e artisti locali si esibiscono con danze tradizionali e musica vietnamita; * vengono organizzati piccoli mercati serali e stand gastronomici; * molte persone indossano abiti tradizionali. Il festival nasce dal desiderio di preservare l’atmosfera storica della città e richiama influenze culturali vietnamite, cinesi e giapponesi, presenti a Hoi An fin dai secoli del commercio marittimo. Il periodo più spettacolare è la sera, poco dopo il tramonto, quando il centro storico patrimonio UNESCO diventa quasi interamente pedonale e illuminato dalle lanterne.
