Pyronia tithonus (Linné, 1767) - Famiglia Nymphalidae - Sottofamiglia Satyrinae - Apertura alare: Da 3,2 a 4 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutta Italia ad eccezione della Sicilia. - Habitat: Luoghi incolti con rovi e ambienti umidi dalla pianura a 1200 m. - Periodo di volo: Univoltina da luglio ad agosto. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie graminacee in particolare quelle dei generi Poa, Phleum, Adrostis, Festuca, Lolium, ecc…. - Dimorfismo sessuale: La femmina ha dimensioni maggiori ed è senza la zona androconiale delle ali anteriori. - Specie simili: Pyronia cecilia con il maschio che presenta la zona androconiale frammentata dalle nervature chiare e la femmina con il rovescio delle ali posteriori più grigio. Entrambi i sessi di P. cecilia non presentano ocelli sul rovescio delle ali posteriori.
