Subjects : Maccarese is part of the State Nature Reserve of the Roman Coast and borders the oasis of Castel di Guido. You can meet many species of passerines, and species adapted to life in fallow soils including the rare dovecote and larks. In the flooded canals and soils you can observe various species of ducks and waders. In winter there are birds of prey such as the lesser eagle, the sacred falcon, the emery, the peregrine falcon as well as buzzards, marsh harriers and various species of harriers.
