Subjects : Fortress of Suomenlinna was built in the second half of the 18th century by Sweden. It was a part of a group of islands located at the entrance of Helsinki's harbour. This fortress is an especially interesting example of European military architecture of the time.

Recommended equipment : Anything from wide angle to zoom lenses.

Best months : Throughout the year but especially in the summer. In winter the wind can be hard.

How to get there : By public ferry from Kauppatori. The trip will take about 15 minutes. Special Suomenlinna ticket costs 5 € and it is valid for 12 hours.

Visits : Admission is free to the island. Suomenlinna Museum, ticket 6,5 €. Guided tours, ticket 10 €. There are also restaurants and cafes.

Notes : Suomenlinna was added to Unesco's World heritage list in 1991.
