Subjects :The geology of Smith Rocks is volcanic. It consists of layers of recent basalt streams superimposed on old ash and tuff formations. About 30 million years ago, a large caldera formed when the overhanging rock collapsed into an underground lava chamber. This created a huge amount of rock debris and ashes that filled the caldera. That material soled into the rock, becoming Smith Rock's tuff.
Recommended equipment :A good tele because animals are sometimes sighted from afar, and a wide angle for landscapes. Recommended tripod and technical clothing.
