Subjects : Radicofani is a shining Borgo site in the beautiful Val d'Orcia southern slopes of Monte Amiata and near the border with Lazio and Umbria. As part of the list of "World Heritage Site" heritage site as part of the 'Natural and Cultural Park of the Val d'Orcia' and 'orange flag' of the Italian Touring Club. At about 850 m above sea level and with a little more than 1000 inhabitants, is in my opinion one corner of the Val d'Orcia among the most striking and being photographed. Its historic center, fully recovered, with its houses built with local basalt stone, is one of the most beautiful villages of Tuscany. Among the most important point out: the Church of St. Agatha, built in the thirteenth century. in Romanesque style, has a linear facade and bell tower square. Inside is decorated in the Gothic style, and divided into three naves, a terracotta figure of the "Annunciation" .Segnalo also the Church of San Pietro, the Praetorian Palace, and the fortress with remains of medieval fortifications. Rocca, with a very complicated and controversial history, but that period was best known as the years subsequent to 1295, when it became the center of the famous Brigante and Soldier Ghino heel, a sort of Robin Hood of the time. Today, the entire castle is fully restored and open to visitors, including all underground walkways and firing positions, inside there is also a museum containing archaeological finds discovered during the restoration.

Recommended equipment : To photograph board equipment rather complete as regards the optics, starting from a Wide to get to a superteles. The possibilities are many, and certainly does not disturb so much equipment, as they are not necessary walks too demanding. Gorgeous landscapes of the Val d'Orcia and breathtaking sunsets, will more than repay the time spent.

Best months : Open all year round, but in my opinion the best time is the spring / summer, thanks to the pleasant climate of the period.

How to get there : It is easily reached by following a deviation of SS.2 Cassia height of Mount Amiata, or Autostrada A1 exit Chiusi Chianciano Terme and then to Sarteano Radicofani.

Visits : The visit of the fortress is a payment to a rather modest cost of € 4.00, for the rest it's all free entry.

Notes : I recommend trying the restaurant of the place, full of typical products.
