Subjects : In addition to the Hermitage of San Antonio, the small church from which the place takes its name, the rugged cliffs (in Spanish "acantilados") overlooking the ocean offer excellent photographic ideas in any season. The landscape is made up of pointed limestone rocks outcropping with shapes that are now sinuous, now geometric, alternating with reeds, grass and Mediterranean scrub. The view of the surrounding cliffs is enhanced by the view, on a clear day, of the Picos de Europa inland. This "tip" is full of ravines that offer very special shooting points on the ocean and the beaches below; it takes hours to visit it thoroughly. The variety of landscapes that can be "isolated" by playing with the framing is remarkable: there are reeds, meadows of soft grass overlooking the ocean, pointed cliffs, rocky hills, rock "windows" overlooking the sea.

Recommended equipment : To be able to capture both the particularities of the cliff and the ocean and the panorama, you need a wide-angle lens and a standard or medium-telephoto lens.

Best months : I was in the middle of summer, and even with hard light some shots are interesting. I would also recommend other seasons but beware of the rains because the climate is very unstable and windy, especially along the coast.

How to get there : The easiest way starts from the parking lot of Playa de Cuevas del Mar (43.4542, -4.93809), where you walk to the beach and continue uphill leaving the ocean behind you on the left. After 500 meters you turn left at the crossroads, cross a farm and follow the different paths that lead to the hermitage.

Visits : In summer, admission is granted to everyone and is free. I have no information about the high seasons, because the entrance is controlled by the owners of the farm.

Notes : Beware of free horses and cattle. There is an electric wire that separates the path from the grazing areas, but continuing towards the hermitage and towards the Punta this border is interrupted and it is possible to come across these animals. They are however meek and do not react unless disturbed.
