Subjects :Monte Menegosa is located in the head of Val D'arda, in the Apennines Piacenza and offers excellent views from its summit and along the route to climb. The Menegosa is a massive ophiolite mountain whose imposing rocky mole emerges suddenly from rolling hills covered with deciduous woods. In addition to the main peak (1356 m), on which is placed by a small metallic cross, there are three secondary peaks: the South Summit (1318 m) is a pyramid of unstable rocks and scree, placed along the path 903 that in that section is also the watershed between Nure and Arda; The East (1323 m), also called Cima Morfasso, is a rocky massif (with two summits) that protrudes towards the Val d'arda with steep cliffs of rocks and culminates with an amphitheatre of dark rocks; Also on the Morfasso peak is a metallic cross; Finally the Northeast (1336 m) is essentially a small conical spike, that stands out from the woods covering the northernmost side of the menegosa. On clear days, the peaks of Menegosa offer a panorama of extraordinary beauty: on one side towards the Po plain and The alpine arc to the Veneto; On the other side you can see much of the Ligurian-Piacentino Apennines. The landscape is of great beauty, the panoramas are vast and suggestive.
Recommended equipment :Wide-angle lenses are the most recommended to create the most striking compositions. Carrying the tripod is useful, as always in landscape, to make long poses or to do multiple exposures. Binoculars can be useful if you want to see the most distant mountains on clear days where the Alpine arc is clearly seen beyond the Po valley.
Best months :I think that autumn and spring are the times when you have the best photographic opportunities. In winter, with so much snow, it could be difficult and dangerous to reach the summit.
How to get there :The easiest way to reach Mount Menegosa is to park your car in the hamlet of Teruzzi in the municipality of Morfasso (PC) and from there walk along the 903 trail. There is a real parking lot and you need to leave the car on the roadside before the last houses where there is no space. The path is not too difficult even if you have to pay attention in the steep stretches that lead to the South Summit where the gravel could be a bit ' unstable. Mountain shoes and trekking poles are recommended to help especially downhill.
Visits :Access is free, no timetable and/or admission tickets
Notes :The most striking aspect of the Mount Menegosa is that, in spite of the only 1356m of altitude, it seems to be in an alpine environment to more than 2500m.
