Subjects : Many Birds Species. All the big Five, Buffalo, Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Leopard. Famous for around 100 lions in the area. Many Giraffe, Wilderbeast, Impala, Waterbuck, Hyena, and other general game. Also one of the few places in Southern Africa to view Wild Dogs and the Sable Antelope. As it is a private game reserve safari vehicles can go offroad in search of wildlife such as leopard and lions. You can get very close to the wildlife sometimes within a few meters.
Recommended equipment : Good quality DSLR. I took Nikon d850, 500mm F4, 70-200mm F2.8, 50mm 1.8 and 1.4tc. If you can only take one lens good options are Sigma 60-600 or 150-600, Tamron 150-600, Canon 100-400 or Nikon 200-500.
Best months : Best Months of the year are in the dry season which is from May/June to end of September. There is less thick vegetation making animal spotting easier.
How to get there : From Johannesburg you can fly into Hoedspruit and your lodge can arrange a transfer. Airline is SA Airlink. You can also self drive from Johannesburg directly to the Lodge. Drive time with one break stop is around 6 and a half hours.
Visits : Well of course the visit will have fees as you will be staying at one of the game lodges. Entrence fee is payable at the entrance gate to the game reserve and is currently entrance fee of R55 per person.
Notes : We stayed here and can recommend https://www.pungwe.co.za/.
