Subjects :The plateau is famous for the presence of wild horses. Since it is very large, it is not certain that you can see them, I recommend a guided tour with an agency based in Livno (I climbed independently and apart from the feat to get to the top then once I arrived at the plateau of horses not even the shadow). The environment is typical of the highlands, you can take interesting landscape photos incorporating the (few) shepherds' houses and / or grazing cows.
Recommended equipment :Wide angle for panoramas, good telephoto for wild horses.
Best months :I was there in June. I think the best time is from spring to late summer. It should be considered that the road to get there is quite bumpy so I assume that in autumn with the heavy rains that are quite frequent in the area it may also be at risk of landslides.
How to get there :From the town of Livno there is a forest road open to normal traffic. Be careful, however, that it is quite bumpy. It is dirt and with several holes, in some places even at the limit (I had to try twice in particular in a very steep point and with very excavated soil). The locals (mainly shepherds who live at the top of the plateau) walk along it quietly with very old 90s Golfs! However, I advise not to venture with cars that are too low, you risk doing a lot of damage. In Livno there is an agency that organizes guided tours in search of wild horses, accompanying tourists with 4x4s. Definitely better than using your own car!
Visits :Free admission, the street is open and public.
Notes :In Livno there is a small church that hides an ossuary. The Pastor (he lives in a house next door) explained to us that these are the bones of the victims of a massacre perpetrated by Croatian fascists against the population during the Second World War. If you happen to be in the area it is worth a visit, if you are lucky enough to meet the Pastor you can also exchange a few words. He is very helpful, speaks English and was happy to tell this story to foreigners.
