Subjects : The town and villages are great spots, but you have to be careful not to upset the locals.Palm groves and cultivated areas are places full of life.Desert landscapes vary greatly, from rocky deserts to sand dunes.And of course, the archaeological sites are fantastic.

Recommended equipment : Any type of camera will do, as long as you're careful about dust and sand. A discreet (compact) camera for cities and towns would be a good option.

Best months : October, November, December, January, February, March

How to get there : You will need to travel to Cairo or Luxor and either fly to Kharga or take a taxi or minibus. Visits to the area are mostly by taxi.

Visits : Visits to major archaeological sites are subject to a fee, and other sites are only accessible with government authorization.
