Coordinates : 67.604085, 24.151674 (Open in Google Maps)

Subjects : A wonderful and unique place on the shores of Lake Jerisjärvi. Historic fishermen's huts still in use. A huge lake (10 km x 5 km) frozen in winter and navigable. A main lake and several smaller lakes within it. In summer, lots of birds and lush vegetation, in winter, an enchanting snowy idyll and the Northern Lights. The chances of seeing the Northern Lights are excellent thanks to the cold and clear weather.

Recommended equipment : In your backpack: camera, wide-angle lens and tripod. Even a telephoto lens. Circular polarizing filter (CPL), but also filter ND.In winter, don't forget very warm clothes and shoes, temperatures can drop below -30°C.

Best months : In summer, from June to October: landscapes, long sunrises and sunsets, interesting and evocative houses, birds and portraits. Winter December - March: winter landscape, short days, low sunshine, sunrises, sunsets, interesting and beautiful houses in a picturesque winter idyll and of course the Northern Lights.

How to get there : To reach Finland by plane, Kittilä airport, it is advisable to rent a car and travel independently. There is also a bus service (a little-frequented line), which I did not use. There is a 35 km scenic road that circles the lakes. You can stop at different locations. There are no large population centers.

Visits : We drove around the lake stopping several times. We also took four walks on the frozen lake... CAUTION ADVICE. We had dinner at the Tunturiporo restaurant, which was open and reliable. Keimiöniemi is located on a promontory that juts out into the lake. Access is free; It is advisable to park your car and take a walk along the promontory to admire the characteristic fishermen's houses and other natural and architectural beauties.
