Subjects :Wonderful landscapes, the Nile and its cultivated fields, the tombs, the temples and the Pyramids of the Black Pharaohs dynasty. Beautiful also the desert, the sacred mountain of Jebel Barkal, the town. If you get lucky they are nice to photograph even the sandstorms, quite frequent.
Recommended equipment :Indispensable a good wide angle, a standard zoom and personally I would also recommend a medium tele. Bring also a tripod for amazing photos at the time stared or at sunset or sunrise. I also suggest polarizing filter and brush to remove the grains of sand from the camera.
Best months :To visit absolutely in our winter where you will find daytime temperatures that skim the 38 degrees. The climate is very dry and very bearable, but it is impossible to tackle this trip from May to September where the temperatures on site are really prohibitive. In Karima there is a nice thermal excursion between day and night, but enough in the evening a sweatshirt or a windstopper.
How to get there :Flight to Khartum, possible from Italy with Turkish via Istanbul or EgyptAir via Cairo. by Khartum, with 4x4 you walk along the comfortable paved road that runs along the Nile and leads to Atbara and then cut the desert to Karima. Or there is an even more comfortable road from khartum rises straight north through the desert and takes you to Karima making you r Get some miles.
Visits :Beyond the wonderful desert landscape and the sacred mountain of Jebel Barkal from where you can enjoy an extraordinary panorama, all around there is a wealth of archaeological sites and pyramids really boundless. Do not miss the Royal necropolis of Nuri, the necropolis of El Kurru, the Petrified forest, the temple of Amon, the small Archaeological Museum.
Notes :Watch out for the visa release. If you want to make yourself aware that the visa is valid for one month from when it is released (so within a month you have to enter Sudan) and you need prior authorisation from the Embassy of Sudan and letter of invitation from the Sudanese tourist agency. Attention, according to The provisions currently in force (07/03/2019) If you are planning a trip to the U.S.A. after travelling to Sudan, you need to apply for a tourist visa. ESTA is not accepted. For the U.S. secretariat of State, Sudan, Iran, North Korea, Syria and Iraq are considered high-risk. The undersigned did not however have any problem in requesting tourist visa U.S. regularly issued (in my case) from the consulate in Milan despite my recent trips to Sudan and Syria.
