Recommended equipment :Wide angle for landscapes, zoom to detail, super telephoto for wildlife.
Best months :Autumn (October) or spring
How to get there :From Halifax follow the 102 to Truro, then take the 104 towards Antigonish, Cape Breton. A bridge connects the island to the mainland. Continue on 105 towards Baddeck, after that 'follow the signs to the park. Need to take a barge that takes you on the other side. From Halifax are about a 5 hour drive.
Visits :Admission is free.
Notes :These are areas which I highly recommend to visit in the fall. The park covers only a small part of the island, but the island should be visited (especially Baddeck) because of its magnificent landscapes. Look at the tops of the trees, and certainly you will see eagles. Visit the area around the famous Keltic Lodge Ingonish and (if you allow, highly recommended stay overnight here). There are several trails in the park and several waterfalls. The most 'beautiful' near Baddeck (Uisage Ban). A South Harbour you can continue north to the Gulf of St. Lawrence. In the small village aull'oceano you can take a guided tour by boat to see the whales. Further down the road I recommend a walk along the path "Skyline". It 'a walk a couple of hours but not particularly challenging. The first section runs through a forest with a high density 'of Elks, the second section continues on the platforms along the ridge of the mountain with great views of the ocean. Beware of moose 'cause you are bringing with ease'. Once in Cheticamp, can not 'miss a meal of lobster. Another beautiful area around Margaree Forks. Another recommended place and 'the village of Louisbourg. This is well out of the park on the east coast. If you want to extend your trip, from the nearby Sydney boats depart for Newfoundland.
