Subjects :Take advantage of the morning light for wet pebbles and use ND filters for long exposures to the sea. For still-life, collect pebbles or natural compositions respecting the protected area; Avoid altering the environment. Boat trips or trekking from the Baunei path reveal exclusive angles.
Recommended equipment :Dry case or dry bag protects everything during the 2.5-hour trek or swim to caves. ND filters, lightweight carbon tripod (or DJI Ronin/Osmo gimbal for stable video) and extra batteries for long days. Waterproof hiking shoes for the steep trail from Golgo, mask/snorkel to explore shallow water before shooting, and ergonomic 20-30L backpack. Morning light enhances pink pebbles: use polarizer for vivid colors and low ISO. Respect the protected area by avoiding drones without permission.
Best months :In May and June, the soft morning light captures stunning hues of the sea and cliffs, with fewer tourists than in July-August. Around the summer solstice (June 21), the sun illuminates the beach until 4:30 pm, ideal for long exposures on wet pebbles. Avoid Critical PeriodsFrom mid-afternoon into autumn or late summer, high cliffs cast premature shadows, reducing opportunities for golden light. July and August bring throngs of boats and swimmers, complicating clean compositions; Opt for early sunrise (before 10am) all year round.
How to get there :The most accessible way to reach the cove is by sea, starting from Santa Maria Navarrese or Arbatax from the south, or starting from Cala Gonone from the north. The beach can also be reached by land through a long path that starts from the Golgo Plateau.
Visits :From summer 2025, access by sea to the beaches of the Gulf of Orosei is limited: online booking and QR code are required to disembark with private or rented boats, with a cost for the landing ticket. If you arrive with organized boat tours from Cala Gonone or Arbatax, the reservation is managed by the companies and you do not need an individual QR; Services operate from May to October, with varying schedules (e.g. departures from 9:00 am). Rules and LimitationsNo gate or fixed closure, but limits on daily attendance to protect the protected area from 2018, with shifts for boats. Check on the official Costa di Baunei website or calamariolu.it for 2026 bookings and weather conditions that may prevent disembarkation.
