Un altro tra i fotografi che, come Dorothea Lange, lavorarono con la Farm Security Administration per documentare gli effetti della grande depressione fu Walker Evans. Sono molto conosciuti e divenuti anch'essi simbolo di quel periodo alcuni suoi ritratti della famiglia Burroughs, realizzati non per la FSA ma per il libro Let Us Now Praise Famous Men in collaborazione con lo scrittore James Agee. Quella di Evans che vorrei proporre oggi è però una fotografia precedente, un ritratto “street” che ho sempre trovato incredibilmente affascinante.

Evans's street photographs explore the role of the spectator amid the dynamic energy of the city. Here a young woman wearing a smart cloche and fur-collared coat stands against a glass shop window on a crowded sidewalk. She remains a pillar of calm and strength, her furrowed brow at once a defense mechanism and an expression of vulnerability. Pedestrians rush along, apparently oblivious of her presence. Engrossed in thought, she appears to be entirely unaware of the artist's presence. This photograph captures the sense of isolation in public that characterized life in the modern city.

Io invece resto in ambito musicale.
Celebre ritratto di Miles Davis (1969) ad opera di Guy Le Querrec, fotografo particolarmente vicino alla scena Jazz.

Veloce veloce, augurando a tutti un buon WE, scelgo questa foto perché ha dei toni spettacolari che mi hanno ispirato tantissimo in molte post-produzione cercando i toni del bianco.

Metto una foto di Marchesa Luisa Casati ritratto da Man Ray.
Luisa Casati era una famosa ereditiera italiana nata alla fine del'800, divenuta famosa sia come mecenate e musa di molti artisti sia come amante e poi amica di Gabriele D'Annunzio.
La storia che c'è dietro alla foto è molto interessante perché narrano voci che questa foto sembra sia nata per errore; Alcuni studi recenti smentiscono questa storia sostenendo che Man Ray abbia volontariamente ottenuto questo effetto grazie alla doppia esposizione.
Qui sotto, ci sono alcuni spezzoni che riguardano la foto di Man Ray, tratto da "Infinita Varietà" scritto da Ryersson e Yaccarino .

She wore a high headdress in black lace and bent her head slightly as she came through the door, as if it were too low for her. Introducing herself as the Marquise Casati, she expressed the wish to have herself photographed. (omissis)
When I turned on my lights there was a quick flash and everything went dark. As usual in French interiors, every room was wired and fused for a minimum of current. The image had three pairs of eyes. It might have passed for a Surrealist version of the Medusa. She was enchanted with this one - said I had portrayed her soul, and ordered dozens of prints. I wished other sitters were as easy to please. The picture of the Marquise went all over Paris; sitters began coming in-people from more exclusive circles, all expecting miracles from me. „

Questa foto di Sieff mi ha colpito e mi rimane sempre impressa nella mente, lo sguardo è cosi forte che la ragazza ai miei occhi sembra vestita

Allora, giusto per cambiare un po', propongo questo self portrait di un fotografo che si chiama Scott Peck, non è famoso, ma quando usavo tantissimo la pinhole era per molti di noi una specie di modello di riferimento.
Ci ho messo due giorni per trovarlo dentro quel caravanserraglio che è diventato flickr e in verità stavo cercando un altro pinholer (neologismo appena inventato) molto bravo, ma ancora non l'ho trovato ... sarà anche che non mi ricordo più come si chiami.
Scattare con una pinhole è un altro mondo, all'inizio è un po' un prenderci , poi se si ha pazienza si riescono a fare cose molto carine, dato che come tipo di macchina impone una discreta creatività, anche se nei ritratti è sempre andato alla grande il self portrait gestito in mille maniere diverse (di solito in movimento, girando su se stessi o camminando o dentro il carrello della spesa).
I ritratti in generale non sono facili da fare e bisogna un po' ingegnarsi. |
