Iran/Tehran - Golestan Palace. After his trip to the Europe, Nasser ed Din Shah, the famous Qajar King, became interested to build structures identical to European towers. So that, a tall building was constructed by his order that way, he and his numerous spouses could have a broad view of Tehran city. Shams ol Emareh was built by Doost Ali Khan Nezam od doleh, Moayer ol Mamalek, during two years in the east side of the royal palace. The date of its completeness was 1246 Hijri Shamsi (1867 A.D). This place has been constructed similar to western buildings in terms of tallness and floor plans. However, its interior decoration and exterior view is national; as many traditional Iranian elements have been used. This building was designed by Moayer ol Mamalek and his architect was Master Ali Mohammad Kashi. With the mirror hall, marble tall grand columns, staircases, and two identical towers, Shams ol Emareh would be considered as one of the marvelous edifices of that era. In addition to its completely precious furniture, there is a big clock above the mansion, the ringing sound of which was often hearable in the past. This five-storey building was of height of 35 m, from which only the first main floor can be visited nowadays. Shams ol Emareh is a unique Iranian building in terms of plan, appearance, interior decoration, mirrors, paintings, plastering works of walls and ceilings, as well as performance of various interior decorative styles. In fact, it can be considered as a complete sample of architecture and interior decorations of that period of Iran history. The cost of construction and decoration was more than four hundred thousand Rials. The exterior facing includes exceptional tile works. So that, each wall has a special design and coloring. Yellow and black colors have been used more in these tails, which show the new coloring feature of tails of that era. Meanwhile, although there are similarities between this structure and Ali Qapu Palace in Isafahan, Shams ol Emareh can be taken into account as the first European style building of Iran. Also, with meaning the sun of the royal mansions, Shams ol Emareh was the highest building at that time with special characteristics.
