Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by Sergio Dlg

fujifilm_xf150-600wrFujifilm XF 150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR

Pros: Finish, tropicalization, sharpness at all apertures, speed af, focus preset, internal zoom, quick release plate with profiles for Swiss ark system, low weight, adequate price

Cons: Basically nothing, unless you want to attribute the lack of a fixed telephoto diaphragm aperture, which however would discount other dimensions and weights, objectively reducing its use only to fixed positions and / or the use of tripods. Not to mention the huge price differences (we are talking about an f4 of equal capacity a cost of 5/6 times that of the fujinon.

Opinion: After a few weeks of use I got an idea about the undisputed qualities of this lens, the first of which is the sincerity of the project. Let me explain: as universally recognized I also find its excellent build quality, so as to make me amazed that someone may have qualified it as "plastic". Also brilliant is the quick release system of the tripod bracket, moreover with swiss ark mount, the best ever for operational use. The internal zoom is then a top-of-the-range choice, as well as the various buttons for the autofocus preset. It is a very sharp lens with good light conditions and perfectly calibrated for the use for which it was designed. As rightly observed by those who preceded me, the technology currently applicable in the photographic field shows objective limits, so we can not expect that at the maximum focal length (we are talking about 900 mm on APSC), which corresponds to 8 as a diaphragm, can give the maximum in the absence of adequate light, even if modern sensors are more permissive in terms of ISO sensitivity and the camera bodies much better stabilized. The comparison with the 100-400 (which I used for years) is then merciless in favor of the more modern "biancone": sharper on all focal lengths, 200 mm of greater "range", faster AF and better balance due to the internal zoom, especially if mounted on camera bodies equipped with battery grip. In a nutshell, a lens that keeps everything it promises. Well done Fujifilm!

canon_eos_r3Canon EOS R3

Pros: Autofocus at the top of the category, Eye Focus Control, reference viewfinder, ergonomics, tropicalization and build quality, high iso tightness, dynamic range, autonomy, .... in short, an exceptional camera!!!.

Cons: I just can't think of anything

Opinion: Everything you could want in a camera body designed and manufactured mainly for nature and sport. Disarming the ease with which the AF hooks the subjects and keeps them in focus to the edges of the frame. A record-breaking feature (which in my opinion shares with another "phenomenon" of the mirrorless landscape: the Fuji XH2S) and that allows bursts in which it is really difficult to find an out-of-focus frame. Ergonomically perfect, it has relatively small dimensions and an excellent level of tropicalization. The maximum for use in the harshest conditions. The innovative focusing system that exploits the movements of the pupil can represent an additional advantage in terms of speed if necessary, but it is necessary to get used to it. As for the position of "flagship" in the Canon house, I doubt that the future R1 we are talking about will be able to do better in terms of operation, if anything it will have features designed mainly for different or additional uses compared to the traditional sports and / or naturalistic photo.

fujifilm_xh2sFujifilm X-H2S

Pros: Ergonomics, solidity, autofocus, viewfinder, customization, autonomy

Cons: Nothing

Opinion: I've had this camera for about twenty days, enough to make me love it unconditionally. Before this I owned and used with satisfaction the Xt4, the Xt3 and the Xt2, but this is another world! Compared to the Xt4, of which it equals but does not exceed the quality of the files generated, being already excellent those of the Xt4, Fujifilm has made a giant step forward in terms of speed of autofocus and the ability to follow subjects in the most difficult conditions. Thanks to the new 26 MP BSI X-Trans CMOS 5 HS stacked sensor and the new X-Processor 5 processor. A combination that allows the "small" Fuji to rival, in terms of AF speed, with the "battleships" Canon R3 and Nikon Z9. I speak with knowledge of the facts as I own and use for naturalistic photos (mainly birdlife) also the Canon R3, in turn more performing on this specific aspect of the NikonZ9, and I guarantee that in terms of speed in engaging the subjects and keeping them in focus is not second, indeed, far from it! I do not usually use the video function, so I can not give a judgment on it, but from the specifications reported and from the reviews of videomakers who have tested it would seem that even on this aspect the "jewel" Fuji is the best currently offers the market.

canon_eos_r5Canon EOS R5

Pros: Everything: autofocus, burst, stabilization, resolution and sharpness, dynamic range, construction, customizations, video compartment, etc. etc.

Cons: To be just picky, the only thing that can be reported is the battery life, good but not exceptional.

Opinion: Practically the state of the art of mirrorless technology. As someone who preceded me in the judgment, I come from many years of experience with canon professional cameras, but I find this R5 resolutely ahead of all the SLRs of the 5 series, in my opinion now surpassed in many respects even by the best APS-C on the market (vds. Fuji XT4). Compared to the 1DX III, whose ergonomics and robustness it does not achieve, it offers more than double resolution, which allows useful cutouts in case of excessive shooting distances, obviously without losing details and quality. In conclusion, progress is obvious and obvious. A large camera, which forces all other brands to chase for the time being.

fujifilm_xf80_f2-8macroFujifilm XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro

Pros: Overall construction, tropicalization, sharpness, stabilization and AF speed

Cons: The noise given by the oscillations of the internal optical group, which is felt during the transport to the camera off.

Opinion: It is a magnificent lens, in every point of view. The three-dimensionality of the files and the rapidity of the MAF are by reference. Valuable the invoice and the accuracy of the adjustments. As indicated among the "cons", leaves a little interdicts, however, the noise given by the oscillations of the internal optical group during transport, peculiarities that I have not recorded in lenses of other brands. This singular feature prevents me from giving a full ten, but the 9 is Strameritato!!!

fujifilm_xt3Fujifilm X-T3

Pros: It is the state of the art of mirrorless technology. An APS-C able to contend the primacy to the best FF on the market.

Cons: I haven't found any real flaws. For someone, it can be the non-complete tilability of the display, which I find totally useless in a professional camera. Even the scarce autonomy complained about in some review is currently quite inevitable, being a mirrorless, so famously starved for energy. This limit is however surmountable with the use of the battery grip, equally valuable in the invoice and in the functions, on which is also positioned the convenient "boost" command, able to further enhance the already hyperbolic performance.

Opinion: Finding a fitting adjective for this Fujifilm body is easy: wonderful!!! It has everything you could want in an "operational" camera: lightning-fast MF, both single and continuous (of course, with lens height); Very effective tracking of fast moving subjects (sport and nature); Very sharp files, with very nice colors; Miraculous dynamic range; Excellent viewfinder; Almost absent noise at high ISO; Very rich menu, with useful customization possibilities. Everything is contained in an elegant and sturdy tropicalized body, with a pleasant retro appearance, equipped with regulating nuts from "Swiss watchmaking". A decisive step forward compared to the already good XT2, which I owned before, as it is equipped with a new backlit sensor, denser than two megapixels compared to the previous version, and a processor of the latest generation, able to manage the best Even the performing video functions. I practice mainly and for passion nature photography, and I confess that after a couple of months that I use it regularly I forgot in the closet my trust Canon 1d Mark IV, hiding a slight sense of guilt.

fujifilm_16-55_f2-8wrFujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR

Pros: Build quality, tropicalization, focal range, sharpness, responsiveness.

Cons: Nothing!

Opinion: is a lens with which I replaced the already good 18-55, which I had bought in kit with the XT2. Tried with the new body XT3, the 16-55 has amazed me for the quality of the images and punctuality of the answer, but I could not tell if part of the performance increase is attributable to the new body. In any case, we are talking about a really excellent goal, whose yield in every light condition is unattainable by lenses of many other brands. Given the dimensions, due to the constructive care, the tropicalization and the wide opening, it is suggested the use of a battery grip on Fuji's professional machine bodies, which will be so much more balanced. Finally, since "The eye also wants its part", I would define this objective as a very valuable object also from the aesthetic point of view. Finally, I have to say that I have found no defect in the lens hood graft, reported by some colleague who had reviewed it before me, so I do not know if that problem was then corrected. It is the fact that the hood appears solid, well constructed and applicable without uncertainties. Rated 10 and Praise!!!

canon_400do_f4iiCanon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II

Pros: portability (weight and size), AF speed, clarity of the images even at T / A, tropicalization (true !!!)

Cons: nothing!!!

Opinion: A superb lens, for those who intend to make it a truly dynamic "use." I think I have it tested properly and has fully convinced me the incredible speed and clarity that brings out in all conditions. All this combined with the excellent transportability, a condition that makes the difference compared to the heavier 500 f4 II series, whose claim sharper really does seem to be proved, if not using it on a tripod and maybe with remote shooting! Who really wears the boots and not just the storage media, can not but love this lens unconditionally. As a vote would give a nice 10, with more than a praise !!!
