canon_50_f1-2Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM

Pros: Blurred, high transmission ratio, weight content, colors, a beautiful overall rendering.

Cons: Autofocus not up to the modern lenses, really poor sharpness, AC from "point" framework when used at full aperture.

Opinion: The third lens I bought in 2015, which I loved and used for years. It has a very nice yield but it is not the lens to put in the bag if you want a safe result in any situation. I have often had blurry photos due to a low-performing AF, and in some cases it is the lack of sharpness that returns an image still kneaded. I am curious to try it in the future on ML, I hope it will rise to new life. Poor sharpness may not be a problem, partial reliability does. Forget full-opening shots in servo on non-static subjects as you can do for example with the 35mm 1.4 II and the 85mm 1.4 IS. When everything goes right though... You remember why you kept it after all. A lens to come to terms with.

canon_85_f1-4isCanon EF 85mm f/1.4 L IS USM

Pros: Precise and lightning-fast autofocus, chromatic rendering, sharpness, stabilizer, reliable tool in any situation even on moving subjects.

Cons: Some chromatic aberration, a pity compared to the 35mm 1.4 II that is completely devoid of it. It must be said that the two lenses came out on very different price ranges.

Opinion: Shooting for work for me the most important factor is the reliability of a lens. There is little point in spectacular performance if the lens is not behind the af of the camera. Purchased a few months after its release, it immediately became my starting point in every shoot. I had already owned the 85mm 1.2 II for years, which I stopped using because it simply made me miss too many shots, while using a 1dx mkII. Well, I tell you that although with a little nostalgia the 1.2 I sold it without too much regret, I have in portfolio some shots that I think is irreducible from this 1.4 but overall there is no comparison. Now I can work quietly without having to cross my fingers and especially get nervous in the face of frequent episodes of focus hunting. The sharpness is exceptional, I often use it coupled with the splendid 35mm 1.4 II of which is worthy apart from the sporadic presence of chromatic aberrations. The colors are the classic modern Canon. Among the money better invested by me in the Canon system.
