“ The GF and three-digits-GX are part of the same line up, rangefinder style entry level cameras, just different generations: GF7 (2015), GF8 (2016), GF9/GX800/GX850 (2017), GF10/GF90/GX880 (2018). It's simply different names for different regions.
The differences are very minimal between one and another (between GF7 to GF10), they are only minor updates, like ergonomics, filters, etc. They all do not have IBIS and has to rely on lenses with OIS for longer exposures. Their main competitors are the PEN E-PL linejp (notice the 'L' on the end. There also exists the PEN-EP line).
Now, the one- and two-digits GX line are a bit more confusing. They are rangefinder style mid-range bodies.
The GX7 successor is the GX7 II/GX85, and then the GX7 III/GX95. Their main competitor is the E-M5 line up from Olympus.
While the GX8 was a one-off rangefinder style version of the photo-centric DSLR-style flagship, the G7, and the video-centric flagship GH4, but with more features (higher resolution, IBIS, etc.), etc. It's a higher end camera compared to the rest of the GX line that currently has no predecessor/successor. Its main competitor is the Olympus PEN-F, also a one-off camera.. „
