“ Last days we were fortunate with dramatic conditions on tour in Iceland together with my friend @iuriebelegurschi
I took for test the new Nikon Z 7 in highlands. That's a first image on that beast. I'll make a review in stories soon, so far my short conclusion about the camera:
- The quality and sensor pretty similar to Nikon d850 with incredible details, brand colors
- It's so convenient to use my F lenses with new lightweight adapter. In fact, I used my 14-24 for 70% of photos
- the most surprising thing is probably about autofocus via adapter on F lenses. It works so fast! Basically I feel it's even faster than on d850
- body is sealed properly for tough weather conditions, which is great for my sailing expeditions, nice hand grip that feels exactly like 850
- camera has only one xqd slot which is strange in my opinion, might be useful for wedding/studio. I personally never use 2 cards, just bring my laptop everywhere + sandisk extreme cards, but for some photographers it's essential to make backup
- menu, interface are just totally same as d850 with all the focus stacking, 4k timelapse, focus peaking, and fine tuning settings
- camera compatible with all Nikon accessories, even battery is same as 810/850
- I'm still getting used to electronic viewfinder after optical one, I guess it may take some time to fully adapt to it
- video features are truly great, especially nice to have 5 axis stabilization, 120 fps hd, focus tracking etc
- I tried hard to find any bugs but so far found only one: auto bracketing does not work in manual mode (only semi auto)
- battery life depends on camera use: for timelapse it shot on silent shutter 600 shots with just 30-40% battery use; stills with normal use and composition planning ~300-400. Camera also charging via USB as long as with conventional charger
So to conclude Nikon Z 7 is a game changer, Nikon quality built in a smaller body fully compatible with all the lenses and accessories we already have. „
