Switching to a variety of A-mount lenses including the 16-35mm f2.8 and 500mm f4 adapted via the basic LA-EA3, I found the A7r Mark II focused only fractionally slower than with native lenses. Some, like the 16-35mm, juddered slightly with three or four finite increments, but still got there quickly. Impressively the 500mm f4 was one of the best of all I tested, focusing very quickly and pretty smoothly even as I handheld the combo and quickly changed compositions. I can also confirm all the A-mount lenses I tried worked with face detection and continuous AF, although I was unable to try the latter with subject moving at significant speed so can't say if it's practical for sports or action use just yet.
I also tried the A-mount lenses with the more expensive LA-EA4 adapter which employs Sony's SLT semi-transparent mirror system. This time the AF felt a little faster than with the LA-EA3, but the number of AF points reduced to 15 and their coverage was smaller too. In contrast, using the A7r Mark II's embedded AF system with the LA-EA3, allows A-mount lenses to exploit all 399 AF points spread across a broader area, roughly 45% of the frame.
Next I tried a Canon EF 24mm f2.8 USM lens via a Metabones Smart Adapter. My last experience with Canon lenses via this adapter on a Sony A7 series was disappointing in terms of speed. I was impressed it worked at all, but it proved very slow and really only practical for tripod-based compositions. But mounted on the A7r Mark II, it was a completely different experience, snapping-into focus in less than a second and roughly matching what I measured with native lenses. Now this was just one lens, and it has to be said one which Sony had supplied for the event, so I can't comment on other models, but I was still very impressed none-the-less by the increase in speed over earlier Sony A7 and Canon EF combinations. The EF 24mm f2.8 USM was certainly very practical on the A7r II, and again supported continuous AF and face detection.
Il secondo secondo me fa poco testo.
