a macro lens can be used even for landscapes, portrait and other genres of photography... with pretty good results, usually these lenses have excellent optical quality.

I agree - my Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro is stabilised and has quite a fast maximum aperture, so can be handheld in poor light whilst its telephoto focal length makes it useful for portraits as well as other medium reaching subjects. To me it's an ordinary prime lens that happens to focus all the way down to life size magnification.

Absolutely yes! A macro lens makes possible to focus from a really short distance to infinite, but there is not other differences.. I suggest you to check Venus laowa 15mm lens. It is a wide, macro lens with a reproduction rate of 1:1, very very interesting for macro photo that includes the environment but also for landscapes with a large Field of view..

The only thing i would add is that macro lenses are not always optimised for infinity focus, and it can be off at times. for landscape i would ensure you have accurate focus in Liveview.

Macro lenses are very sharp corner to corner, and always have very little distortion.

Happy shooting!

Sure, you can use it for landscapes

If you focus 1 mile away will work just fine

Most of up-to-date, dedicated to macro, primes have focus to infinity, the problem in question is the angle of view, that is not always wide enough. For older or third party fixed primes, where a "middle man" is needed you gotta check out for NOT cheap adapter ring , that have a glass element built in. I have about 15 Nikon lenses, that a friend gave to me and i had 2 options - to switch to Nikon or search for a adapter ring.
Wasn't cheap though, about 140 euro, but it was worth.
Therefore, i have a set of lenses, that focus to infinity and can be used with both - landscape and macro.

I had the canon 180 macro . it was the sharpest canon lens I ever purchased. I used it for a lot of things. Good Luck
