Pros: Sharpness, autofocus performance, dynamic range, construction, customizable dials and buttons

Cons: Lack of focus bracketing, sensor that gets really dirty easily, 10fps as maximum burst

Opinion: Switched to Sony from Eos R5 because I was looking for a camera around 30Mp with stabilized sensor that Canon does not have in the catalog, and also for the wide range of lenses from Sony and third parties, I did not regret the passage. The A7IV holds its own against the R5 when it comes to focus tracking, even in low-light and difficult backlit situations. I had the opportunity to test it in birdlife, although I am a beginner, in moments of excitement when I had little time for shooting, I then realized that the fire always fell into the eye of the subject. The menu has improved but still difficult to understand for those coming from Canon, I had to follow various tutorials and set it finely, especially the part concerning the autofocus. Raw file really nice to work, compared to Canon loses a little bit on the shadows but gains as far as the highlights are concerned. Fantastic dynamic range and sharpness to sell, it's just what I was looking for in my portraits where I work the file 100%. There is no focus bracketing and this is a big flaw for a machine with so much technology, for extreme magnifications in macro you have to resort to a microslide. I then put among the defects the burst from 10fps, although you know at the time of purchase, and even if then a greater burst is not really necessary, since the camera costs almost € 3000, I find it at fault, especially compared to the competition. Last thing, I find myself having to blow the sensor after almost every output, it tends to get dirty really easily despite there is the protective curtain with the chamber off. Apart from these small defects that are known during the purchase, the A7IV is a great camera that allows you to get really quality photographs and to be comfortable in almost all situations (except in macro), today I would also buy it as a second camera body.

Pros: Excellent AF performance in both photos and videos. Real time touch tracking very convenient where there are no eyes. Current price. ISO holding in videos. At the same magnification the same iso seal of the A7 III. Battery life. Sensor with clever resolution, satisfies everyone. Complete video department.

Cons: List price. The workflow of raw files must be changed if you come from a previous generation sony. IBIS inferior to the competition.

Opinion: I immediately suggest disabling the automatic brightness of the viewfinder because it is very low, put instead at +1 or +2, it also gains the quality. If you come from A7 III I suggest you review your workflow to work on files, for example the camera raw settings are not good, the sharpness should be brought to zero or maximum 15 because it is already ultra sharp. Raising the sharpness here only does damage unlike the III. Another fundamental difference is that the IV works better on the highlights while the previous one works better on the shadows. This is a total hybrid machine, it is clear the direction that Sony wanted to take, the video department is very complete, the management of codecs, bitrate and color is identical to A7S III. Excellent autofocus both in video and in photos, it makes birdlife even if you are brocchi, good operating speed in general, excellent iso hold on video. Instead photo side, if these are observed on the monitor with 100% magnification you will notice about 0.5 - 0.7 stops of noise more than the A7 III, so if you are fixed with the ISO and look at the photos only on the monitor and only 100% better take the III or other machines with a 20/24 Mpixel sensor. While, as mentioned by some previously, at the same level of magnification of the photos, the noise is identical to the A7 III and gains in sharpness. And there is more margin in printing, where for the same print size the higher DPI density helps the A7 IV. For me excellent quality in general. Those who complain about the ISO tightness I think have not well understood that the signal-to-noise ratio is always the same, and a more resolute sensor is always preferable for the same sensor size and technology. Speech valid for any other brand, see Canon R6 and R5 for example. Ok let's move on, the viewfinder is good and fluid, as long as you put manual brightness, in the car it has a low brightness and indoors it is really a pity, put at +1 or +2 and that's fine. Decent monitor, a step back from Canon. Ergonomics for me good, very good, grips well, firmly, without uncomfortable angularity, I can not believe that someone is out with the ring finger, that you have the hand of polyphemus? For me, people now write the same things as always in repetition as a fashion. However, compared to Canon the shutter button does not fall ready on the index, but a small shift must be made, but even here I can not believe that people arrive in the evening with cramps. The dials instead fall more comfortable than Canon but are harder. Same thing menu, many controversies but it is only habit, it is linear, divided into macro areas, indexed and colored, everything is in its place, if you look for a function you find it where you expect it to be. Infinitely expanded customization of keys and functions. List price meaningless, evaluate well where you buy. As for the stabilizer, even this time Sony has failed to make the miracle and this is inferior to the competition, especially in videos, in photos is fine. In the videos there is the possibility of stabilizing in post production with a tool provided by sony, Catalyst, and the result is very good. PS: but those users below me who complain about everything about the machine, but bought it at random? A closed box? Without even holding it first in the store? Without inquiring about the features? Crop at 60 fps is written on the walls, before buying you have to know it, like unlit keys. You can not complain about a known feature passing it off as a defect, the defect is when a declared characteristic is not respected. Blessed are they who can afford to spend 2k at random, but then complaining does not seem correct to me.

Pros: Good file quality, operating speed. Maf very fast and precise. Ibis good side photo

Cons: Articulated display, iso seal, poor viewfinder resolution, ergonomics, value for money, non-performing ibis video side. Like all of them, it doesn't have backlit keys. Level does not specify. Menu, although improved in this model, is still mentally ill.

Opinion: I state that I only take pictures. Purchased in the worst period at the price of 2,650, I replaced a Canon r6 that had limits especially with regard to mgpx and the cost of the optics (excellent RF but cost a stone and there are few third-party optics). I found myself worse because the handle is really uncomfortable. The little finger and a little of the ring finger come out. Which unbalances the camera at the bottom especially by combining important optics. I partially solved with an L-plate of the smallrig. The Evf for a machine of that cost is really poor and even the adjustment of the diopters does not seem precise to me. In low light we are really at embarrassing levels. The internal level when I open the files from Lr is always starred. The totally articulated display for someone like me who only takes pictures, is uncomfortable. It forces you to do a lot more maneuvers. Being then very far from the optics makes the framing difficult (other than rangefinder). The zipper also does not seem to give a feeling of solidity. The high iso tightness is not good. Absolutely. And it is already perceived immediately above 2000. The sensor on the other hand, under normal conditions returns excellent images. The file has good workability but does not excel. The operating speed is remarkable, the burst is good but you have to use v90 cards, otherwise it decreases. Despite having two slots, one of which is hybrid for Cf Express type A (very expensive and that I did not buy), if one of the two is slower, even the fastest one adapts to the speed of the slowest ... In short, an all-round machine that does not excel in anything. Sony, a bit like all the others, has not yet guessed that there are things that an amateur photographer would appreciate. First of all, ergonomics. Holding these little bricks in your hand is uncomfortable. For someone who has medium-sized hands upwards, he is forced to mount supports for the little finger and part of the hand. If you don't, with a bit long shooting sessions you find yourself with wrist pain. The hand tends to compensate for the weight that unbalances the camera forward due to the weight of the optics. Second, the display... And here I draw a pitiful veil. According to these engineers we have all become videomakers... 6k, 8k... direction to Kubrick... and then we see everything from mobile phones... Plus with cropped sensor and a poor Ibis. I assume that videomakers or bloggers if anything will take the S series or other models of competitors, I do not understand the obstinacy for these hybrid machines and these gullwing displays. Ok there is the A7r... but it costs almost twice as much to have a thousand million megapixels often useless... Third thing... and light up the keys... they also had the Nokia 3310 a few decades ago ... For me a machine highly overrated compared to the cost. It's a good car, for heaven's sake. But it has big limitations. Limits that over the years have not improved, to the detriment of bursts, sniper focus, and millions of absolutely useless pixels. According to them we have all become directors, we all have 6k televisions, we print photos from billboards and we are all ornithologists... Sony has been good at creating a practically infinite optical park to which it has cleverly flanked the third-party optics (even if there are no pancakes and the restyling are all the prerogative of the G and GM series and the average cost is rising considerably). I would say that the extra value (for a photographer who does not make videos) of this brand is 90% for this reason. The optics of the GM series, especially the latest are remarkable. The camera project, in my opinion, is not following the evolution of optics. The level is only pure technology. So many numbers, but the substance is not in step with it. Ultimately for me it's a 7/10 machine

Pros: For my use, especially portability and AF.

Cons: As far as I'm concerned, ISO sealed.

Opinion: It's my second FF after a few years of changing aps-c between Fuji and Pentax and before arriving at the full format with Panasonic S5. Since I like (would like) to do street even in the evening-night, I hoped to find comfort regarding the tightness of the iso with this professional body, certainly wasted in my hands. As such an amateur pseudophotographer, I was definitely not disappointed, but still disappointed. It's true that I tend to crop some files, but with iso 2000 and sustained artificial light I did not expect to find that noise I find. Maybe I was used to "badly" with the Pentax KP that despite a smaller sensor, effortlessly held ISO 12800 and sometimes even beyond. I'm thinking of taking half a step back by exchanging the 7IV for a 7III.

Pros: AF eyes on even small birds, customization of controls, global image quality, possibility of having a cheap and valid set of lenses with third-party lenses.

Cons: Monitor and EVF not up to today's technology. Crop the sensor if you shoot at 60 FPS in 4k. Readout slow sensor for those who want to use only electronic shutter.

Opinion: Do not be fooled by the reviews that came out at the launch of this machine, the reviews of the so-called "early adopters" who complained about poor accuracy of the EYE-AF and other problems, Sony subsequently released 4 more firmware and fixed the software matters. Instead, what comes from hardware limits remains obviously, such as slow readout, but more than defects are limits, one knows it before buying. And while there are I immediately list the other flaws of this machine, or a display and a viewfinder not at the level of the competition. And then crop if you do 4k at 60 fps, this according to me they put it on purpose in sony not to step on the feet to the A7S III, because this A7 IV even in the videos goes very strong. Probably the A7 IV is not the first in the class, it is not perfect, but it is a hybrid car that I promote with flying colors, perhaps the sony product that makes the most sense to exist because of the price now reasonably dropped to 2100-2200 euros (online price, or RCE stores November 2022) and can even be considered by those who do birdlife. Indeed, the minimum decent and effective setup for those who practice birds could be the A7 IV + the 200-600. The user who wrote before me complaining about costs, tell me how to spend less to have the same efficiency. But in general you can have third-party prime lenses at much less. Compared to the a7 III at 1750/1800 euros it is still to be preferred because it is another car, in all respects improved. Even in videos, much better autofocus with the S-Log profile, Eye Af on videos, even with external monitror connected. And then separate menus for videos and photos, Live view also usable on built-in display even when connecting an external display, full size HDMI, extended aspect ratio, direct audio / video connection to the PC with HDMI cable, no more capture cards needed. Effective grip. Then I do not understand the criticism of the Sony menu that is linear and divided by areas, it is just a matter of habit or perhaps cognitive problems due to age. Touch Tracking function that works great. Improved AF sensitivity in the dark compared to the A7 III, Speaking of image quality it is true that if you look at the photos at 100% these are noisier than the photos of a camera with a less dense sensor, such as the A7 III or the Canon R6 but this is obvious because it is as if you were looking at the photo at different magnifications (the more Mpixel there are the more you need a large monitor to view the 100%) I understand that those who switch from A7 III to A7 IV and look at the photos at 100% can experience some sort of disappointment, but if you resample the 33 Mpixel photo towards a lower resolution, like 24 mpixel like the previous A7 III, then the A7 IV file results with comparable noise. Obviously, these speeches apply at high ISO, while at low ISO all the advantages of higher resolution are valid. To conclude, however, I want to bring attention to AF which I think is amazing in AF-C and tracking. Inevitable comparison is with the Canon R6 which is an amazing machine to which I do not attribute gaps in particular compared to this sony, and I thought for a long time to return to canon since the change kit did not cost me so much from RCE and since the R6 had made a very good impression considered to me at 360 degrees, but the 20 megapixels, FOR ME, are too few. In addition, the tracking and the Sony pose prediction algorithm left me stunned.

Pros: Af

Cons: Poor hold at high ISO, hyperprice, robbery accessories and brainy menu all in Sony style

Opinion: I've always hated Sony for its menus, ever since the days of professional cameras where they insisted on inserting the same menu as the 500,000 lire Handycams. But the company passed that and that I used. Given that I care less than zero about the video sector, since I argue that for that type of work the cameras are much more ergonomic (see Blackmagic Ursa), I do not explain why, given the trend, they do not produce the only photographic version and the video version, so they do not offer unnecessary features to buyers. I am sure that, with a software block to the video sector, they would sell much more, lowering the price by a few hundred Euros. It would cost them the work to write an extra line of code... A few years ago I took an A7II that I immediately resold for Fuji because really, with the menus I could not do it. Years have passed and they have still stubbornly maintained the same crap, indeed, now they have also included submenus. But with what I spent on optics this time (24-70 GM II, 16-35 GM and 200-600G) I'm fine. The reason I came back to Sony after years of Fujifilm was just the AF side. With this, finally, I found a decent focusing system. And it is the only point in its favor that makes me keep it. I start with the "cons" I detected: - High ISO: calling high ISO in 2022 800 (yes, 800, not 8000) ISO seems to me a blasphemy, but it is the limit beyond which I do not push this machine. I seem to be back on the Canon EOS 50D, where at 640 it was painful... I will opt for a 7SII or III used to make up for the high ISO deficiency. I looked at the photos taken with the A7II and at high ISO there is no comparison: better the old one (if I knew I kept it ...) - Expensive: they opted for this format of CFExpress type A which, compared to type B, costs more than twice as much and has lower performance. Go and understand why... Quality optics, but this applies to all Sonys, cost a kidney. Between camera, BG, batteries, 2 CFExpress and a 24-70 GMII, a 16-35 GM and a 200-600G I spent the equivalent of a car... - Menu: I spread a pitiful veil. It's unproposable, brainy and only Sony can keep (and make worse) such crap. Am I happy with my purchase? No! But I certainly don't sell it to lose money.

Pros: Ergonomics, malleable lossless RAW files, definition, infinite dynamic-range (even at high ISO), incredible autofocus even in low light, complexion, EVF compared to 7 III, power on and operating speed, very good extra-fine JPG, video oversampling 4:2:2 10 bits incisive and with little noise, S-Log/Cinetone, quieter shooting than previous series, adjustable display, MAF touch, renewed menu, possibility to keep the shutter closed when the machine is off

Cons: Rolling Shutter very evident, ISO seal not surprising in the photos, IBIS generally not very efficient (especially on the fifth axis on the video side), burst lower than the competition, average autonomy, crop in 4K / 50p

Opinion: A hybrid all-rounder of great quality, at a price certainly high but all in all in line with the current market situation. The standout feature of this camera is certainly the lightning fast and precise autofocus, able to track the eye even in critical conditions (tried a very critical street night with dark lens - f / 6.3 - and still managed to hook). However, as you close the aperture the autofocus loses a little bit in reactivity, nothing dramatic anyway. For events I consider it the ideal purchase, a little less for wildlife and sports given the limited flurry. The lossless RAW is fantastic, extremely malleable, maybe just a little "hard". The dynamic-range is very high, in PP you can recover completely white areas that you would never think contained information. The processor is excellent both in keeping the machine responsive and in processing a very remarkable JPG (lacking, however, in the information on the highlights). The advice is always to work the RAW, but the automatic noise reduction (as well as the general processing of the photos) is a spanna above that of the previous series (if I have to find a defect, during the day there is too much contrast). The ISO seal is discreet / good considering the density, but it is not higher than that of the A7 III (perhaps worse), while on the chromatic front I finally found a Sony with good complexions and not too much tending to yellow. On the video side, however, there is a lot of stuff in terms of general quality, including oversampling and the possibility of 4:2:2 10 bits with S-Log and Cinetone, however the rolling shutter in some situations is very evident (and this I consider a heavier "con" of 4K/50p crop). In addition, the IBIS is not very effective despite having used it in combos with Sony OSS lenses (especially I noticed a deficit on the fifth axis). The ISO seal here is definitely good, you can shoot even at 1000 ISO with very little noise. Other aspects such as autonomy, the quality of the display and the viewfinder (the latter two however improved compared to A7 III) I consider them average, not scarce but not surprising.

Pros: Af above a7rIII

Cons: Overheating

Opinion: I have for a few days the a7IV from the first tests made on the photo side, although it has a new sensor is very far from the a7rIII. With the same optics with the a7rIII I can go over 100% magnification with the a7IV I do not have to exceed it. Video side and AF hole improved in all ways. And then the unlocking of the 29.90 minutes. Finally quoto the opinion of Sandrone81

Pros: Ergonomics, AF, customizable keys, new menu, adjustable display, sensor protection curtain

Cons: MAX 10 FPS , menu translation, iso yield, super35 video crop, price

Opinion: Hybrid all-round. Ergonomically finally an adequate grip, does not think of the battery grip to improve the grip. Dial to change photo/ video/S&Q mode not entirely optimal, you can not always in a hurry to switch in the right mode. The 33mpx sensor does not help with ISO yield, do not push too much, personally I never go beyond 8000iso. Battery less durable than 7III, but the gap is little, but completely justified in my opinion given the technical specifications. Curtain in front of the delicate sensor, be careful! if you blow vigorously to remove the dust everything moves and you risk making it end up inside. Responsive AF, hooks any even in a low light situation, specifically af eye bird incredible, hooks the eye even of the smallest sparrow, tracing it really well, clearly within the limits. Adjustable screen, convenient in the video and macrophotography sector. Really improved video compartment, the only flaw if you can define it so (I prefer it instead) the light crop super 35, personally I appreciate it because in naturalistic the focal length is never enough. 2 card slots including one of both cfexpress type A and UHSII, which makes the burst endless. It overheats a bit after exceeding 10 minutes in 4k, a common problem also widespread in other manufacturers, but the oversampled is really pleasant. 10FPS in lossy Raw af continuous, this makes me turn up my nose slightly I would have liked to have a little more, although with electronic shutter, they remain in any case sufficient for most of the various uses. Rolling shutter present but we don't have a stacked one! Salty price in my opinion I would have liked something less.

Pros: It has improved a lot compared to the A7III

Cons: The display is smaller than that of the A7III.

Opinion: Camera with great performance this A7IV not only does not regret the A7III, indeed it improves a little everything compared to the previous model. They could only make a display as big as that of the A7III. Improved ergonomics and good but not great. The new 33mpx sensor for me is pretty much perfect. The Sony system is now so full of optics that you are spoiled for choice but I would invite Sony and third-party manufacturers to make lenses with smart focal lengths in addition to the classic focal lengths. To be clear, in my opinion a 14-35 f4 zoom is smart, a zoom like the 35-150mm f2-2.8 tamron is smart... Overall I give a 9 to this camera.

Pros: Ergonomics, speed, hybrid camera x excellence, apsc in video,

Cons: menu as usual

Opinion: I start from the Pros: improved ergonomics, to the touch it makes the a7III look like a pre-war room, ditto the af, it was already a hyena that of the 3 but this goes beyond my expectations. AF on the eyes reactive, fast, precise, to get a photo wrong at f1.4 you have to put effort, the joystick I see it much more responsive and comfortable to use compared to the previous version. The megapizzas are noticeable, it now looks like a hybrid halfway between the a7III and the R series, I can finally retire my a7R2 after almost 5 years of honorable service. In video, which is the reason why I took this camera, churns out a scary 4k, and the apsc mode for many can be a defect while for me it is a plus, it gives you the opportunity to use lighter optics obtaining an incredible quality, even using the clear image zoom, practically you find yourself both a FF at 4k / 25p and an APSC at 4k / 50p The codecs are multiple and there are for everyone, from 4:2:0 8bit to 4:2:2 10 bits both h264 xavcs h265 and xvacIntra. the af on the eyes in video is monstrous, it only makes me incaxxare the peaking that remains active when from MF you switch to AFC, this the other Sony did not have it. The menu is a jungle that Mowgli levate, but just lose a few hours just withdrawn, set menu FN customizable keys and memory 1-2-3 both photos and videos, personally I find the switch brilliant x who makes photos and videos together, just save the presets in the memory and you switch in video from 4k / 25p to 4k / 50p with crop and 100p memorizing key 1-2-3. In the picture I just need to save a preset that I use almost always then from there I immediately raise the iso. X now no heating, but who took it to record theaters maybe nn understood a sledgehammer, however if I can give advice always detach the monitor from the room, download the last fw and raise the level from standard to high, fiddle in the menu that you find it. For those who tell you that it is not a big jump from the a7III answer that it is a great caxxata, the photos are better even with a smooth a7 if one is a master in photography, what is surprising about this camera is the convenience of use, at the end of the day you are not even tired, she does everything :))) if you want to have fun going out with the analog and taken by hand in film, this is a digital camera.

Pros: Ergonomics, key customization, improved menu.

Cons: Resealable door, overheating

Opinion: Six months later and intense use I see the first review that was very positive (maybe it was a problem of my expectations). I do not want to go from the stars to the stables, indeed I want to reiterate that it is a great machine. But... but... but... there are two things that I find it hard to digest. One is the counter. I prefer the one of the a III (it knows less about video and more about photography). Second, overheating: despite the firmware update, the situation has not changed. Awkward!!! The ergonomics are really fantastic, finally the grip to the touch gives the feeling of solidity. I appreciate the customization of the keys. Good thing I didn't sell the a III.

Pros: Quality both photos and videos, everything you didn't have on A7 III E 7C, recommended stain

Cons: heats up a bit by shooting videos in 4k at 25p with 422 10 bits at 140kbps both with 4k at 50 and 60p starting from 10 minutes using normal sd cards that is with write speed at 170mb / s, to use the 4K 422 10 bit only with the cf expressed, maybe updating the next firmware solves the overheating problem

Opinion: A camera that I have been waiting for 2 months, what to say, unique, top performance of the competition, even if shooting video in 4k at 60p with the crop at super 35mm does not matter to me, indeed it is not really a crop from apsc sensor but it almost looks like an apsh, sensor used by the canon 1D up to the mark IV. For the rest even its 33 mpx we needed, crazy quality, even at high iso.

Pros: Wonderful Jpeg, af, absolute customization, video side improvements (with two big ones though)

Cons: It warms up a lot when doing video sessions over 8-10 minutes. Less performing battery. Crop video.

Opinion: This model is beautiful and ugly at the same time. Heat dissipation has significantly worsened. Believe me: if you want a cool camera (video side), stay away from this product. It has now become a well-known and badly hidden problem. The crop was finally known. Side photo slightly worsened iso hold, but improved in af. The a7iv is a great machine if you shoot short clips, and you want a slightly larger sensor with improved connectivity. But one has the impression of a missed opportunity. If I could go back I would have kept my a73, with all the limitations of the case. Think about it. Don't get me wrong: it's a great machine, but what it promises hurts it.

Pros: Exceptional AF compartment in all conditions, adjustable display, ergonomics, viewfinder and screen of excellent quality, improved dials, sensor protection, and other pros that are also found on Sony machines of the previous line

Cons: iso tightness worsened, I confirm the front focus problems, among other things rather marked, in the hope of a future firmware update

Opinion: I took this monster a few days ago and I already realized after a few minutes that it is a crazy generational leap from the previous series. I have a Sony A7III (almost 2 years) and I previously had Z6 (yield after 10 days) and Nikon D610 (really good considering price / performance). I point out that I had reviewed the A7III in a not really positive way, and therefore I am not one of those who to justify the expense make golden reviews to any bin. Here we finally have what I was looking for when I switched to mirrorless with the terrible experience of the Nikon Z6, that is, I wanted a machine that had the advantages of mirrorless, but that also had a reactivity and focus (AF-C) like the top of the range SLRs. Compared to the A7III here we find a focus, understood as AF-C, improved in an incredible way and finally always constant, hooks anything in any light condition, even almost in the dark. The A7III was excellent as focus on the face and eyes but it was really painful when there were not these two conditions, especially in low light it was very poor compared to almost all slrs even much older. Here we are at exceptional levels, it seems like magic. As always, the keys are customizable and the menu is perhaps a bit improved, it being understood that I was fine even before having created my menu with all the keys programmed. Excellent viewfinder and also the liveview, I assume they are not the top of the top but honestly we are at very high levels. For me who do almost everything portrait, having the screen fully articulated is very comfortable and is the second difference from A7III for me fundamental. Finally, it is very light, but it is interesting above all the size that fortunately is greater than the previous ones, following the body of the most recent Sony line. Finally they understood that we want products to hold in our hands and that it is too small camera bodies are uncomfortable. Here the size is right, the little finger remains on the body without the need to buy a Small rig bracket or similar (which I still bought anyway). The rings have improved, they have removed the useless compensation ring, which honestly I never understood what desperate could shoot using it, and the keys are perhaps a little more distant since the body is slightly larger, but still everything is very similar in layout compared to the previous ones. Finally, I read that the video sector has immensely improved but I do not care in the slightest, in fact in this regard I would prefer to have the choice to buy a product without a video compartment and maybe save 500 euros (to say), I do not think I will ever use it personally. As a burst I read that it is infinite (or almost depending on the mode), I still hate bursts and I make very few shots in general, so I honestly do not care in the slightest, but there is also this pro. As against, I read that the iso seal is lower than the previous models due to the fact that the sensor is denser, honestly it is not a definitely positive thing but I have not personally tested the difference for now. At the moment I can not say if the 33 mpx compared to the 24 are for me sensible or not, compared to maybe keep the 24 and earn in iso, we will see. In this regard I would say that the consideration must be made according to the use, in my case I assume that this worsened iso seal will not be a problem since I generally shoot with flashes at iso 100. To close, the sensor that is protected when the machine is turned off, so you can change lenses without sporacing it, is an addition that everyone has been waiting for from previous models. it is the first machine of which I am 100% satisfied for my needs.

Pros: Camera body with improved ergonomics, customization, autofocus, compatible and adaptable lens availability, dynamic range, resolution, articulated monitor, colors, quality and video functionality.

Cons: Noise too intrusive compared to the resolution, medium-high ISO yield, video crop x1.5, noisy shooting, stabilizer lower than the competition, high cost.

Opinion: Counter-current review. It's a really well made camera, with a body finally comfortable; Nice articulated display addition. As an "all-rounder" it is the best in Sony and among the best on the market, it takes great photos and captures great videos. Much better autofocus: faster and more accurate, especially in tracking. Stabilizer improved even if slightly, resulting in a step below the canon / Panasonic summit. Gust more than enough. Appreciated the increase in resolution... at the expense -however- of more noise. I love the 7 IV and I consider it a really remarkable machine, but I'm unhappy with the performance of the sensor, noise side at least. It returns detailed images, with great dynamic range, improved colors, but far too much noise since intermediate ISOs. Everything becomes more evident with the rise of the ISO or with the recovery in post. It is not serious, nor unmanageable, for heaven's sake, but it has the same grain as a7R III, which has over 40mpx and several years behind it. Honestly I am of the opinion that Sony should have taken other paths: A) keep the old 24mpx and use the new processor to make it even more effective: B) develop a 26-29mpx sensor using the new processor to obtain similar results but with more detail. To be clear, it is a really effective machine from all points of view and allows you to deal with any photographic genre, but I am disappointed by the yield in terms of grain and / or ISO. I spent a lot of money to move from S5 to the Sony world and I thought I would find a superior product in everything. I was wrong. For skeptics or critics, know that I still own an R6 (12000 shots), I had S5 (4000 shots), a7 III (3000 shots). I avoid making too many comparisons with competitors to avoid super fanboy controversy. I just say that it is a great tool but that I would have preferred an extra effort. This is my opinion, based on my use and my tastes. Is it worth buying? Yes, absolutely, on the other hand it judges a camera as a whole.

Pros: Improved ergonomics, buttons finally accessible, with ease, to the touch, RAW very malleable, menu redone from scratch, sharpness and still sharpness never seen before

Cons: I paid for a video section, probably of a high standard, which I will NEVER use!

Opinion: Half a century of Nikon cameras (up to the D750), two years of A7III the qualitative leap and usability are undeniable. FAST AND PRECISE AF, RAW files of incredible cleanliness with a sharpness to leave you speechless, even if you have not yet tried it with GM lenses - Menu complete and detailed; here I would have liked the possibility of having a reduced menu with the main items and an extended one, but I will do mine and the problem is solved. Finally a sensor protection when changing lenses, with the A7III the risk of sensor smearing was constant. The price is consistent with the quality of the product and the performance offered net that, of the video sector, I do not do anything! Satisfied with the purchase.

Pros: Body better manageable with large hands, raw files malleable at will, incredible AF for speed and precision, high iso manageable yield, remarkable detail, customizable perhaps even too much ... great machine

Cons: type monitor extension excellent for video use but penalizing photographic use, translation of some incomprehensible menu items, too much customization and configurations (menu 512 pages) too much technology on the video side, which certainly made the price rise

Opinion: I come from Sony A99 so the generation leap was remarkable... I state that I take the same photos as before, neither better nor more beautiful, it is certainly not the camera that makes me a better photographer, having said that it is another planet ... Infallible AF and really good file management, open shadows and close lights without any problems whatsoever, within the limits of obvious decency. The bought video has been improved a lot, and maybe that's what I don't like, it could cost much less and just be a camera that makes videos, Sony has turned to make instead make camera that makes photos and videos on par. The monitor that comes out to the side I can not please, increases the volume of the machine, much better if it opened only in front of the machine ... (that of the A99 was exceptional and disappeared on the 7 series) but they are tastes. Happy with the purchase not 100%, this policy of looking more at the creators of videos from social than at photographers I do not like. the same camera at 2000 euros only for photographers would have split, the price is a net Con, too expensive for a purely photographic use

Pros: Versatile great video. Af monster even with little light. Resolution and Dynamic Range. Menu

Cons: Cost in my opinion a little sustained, some limitations on the side I see only for the protection of specific products.

Opinion: I went from a year and a half ago, starting from Canon with the A7III, then joined by the A7RIV. I sold the A7III and then took the A7IV later on 1/12/2021. A value is the flippable monitor, excellent for shooting and vlogging and online courses / audits. Excellent connectivity and memory compartment, I have not tried the CFexpress A that cost a shot. AF-C improved compared to the III for all areas, also compared to the RIV with the inclusion of the possibility of eye recognition of birds in birdlife. Tested with in 200-600 2x @ 1000-1200 mm effective F13 excellent focus does not affect the aperture closure. With the RIV in the same configuration AF-C it was very difficult, in the 7IV the multiplier behaves like a smooth optic. As of today 13/12/2021 there is no RAW support for Camera RAW, but only with Capture One 22. For good landscape photos rendered I did not make direct comparison with RIV. For portrait excellent general rendering and noise management.

Pros: A truly PRO machine !!! Lightning-fast autofocus, infinite dynamic range, foolproof white balance.

Cons: Menu items ... it is often impossible to understand what abbreviations mean

Opinion: Just taken, and tried only for a day, on a set with many models; from the first shots I was really impressed by the autofocus (I come from the Alpha 7 III), extremely faster and practically infallible even with very little light. Infinite dynamic range, perfect white balance, and a distinct feeling that the files are much, much better than the previous one. On the set there were continuous LED lights, and despite the cloudy day and the colorful furnishings the AWB did not miss a beat. The photos seem more three-dimensional, more balanced, in short, as if they had already been developed by a skilled hand (I have not yet been able to develop the RAW with Capture One, but I could "edit" them and see them with the Sony program). Very comfortable and larger handle than the 7 III, and easy keys to press even with an eye to the viewfinder. The latter has made a huge leap in quality compared to the previous series resulting bright, balanced and very very natural. Battery of 10 and praise ... waiting for the Battery grip ....... I managed to take 850 photos with one charge (no flash), with camera set in AF-C. At 3200 Iso it is almost impossible to see the grain, and at higher values it has a "pleasant" appearance. Finally when I change the lens I feel calmer with the shutter curtain that goes down to protect the sensor. Happy to have the lock on the upper bezel: finally you will not be able to stand the exposure without wanting it. The only flaw are the abbreviations of the menu, almost incomprehensible in Italian .... although it should be applauded to Sony for having finally removed the previous menu!!!!! I reserve the right to deepen in a few months my first excellent impression after a use, I hope, intense.
