Pros: Image quality, lightness, responsiveness, snap focus

Cons: Battery life, non-swivel LCD, high ISO yield (over 3200)

Opinion: I usually use the Leica M system and I have joined the GRIII for those occasions where it is necessary to have a pocket machine in the true sense of the word. DNG files are great as well as the rendering of the optics. The images created can be easily combined with those made by more demanding "full frame" systems, even within the same photographic project. Lightness, responsiveness and compactness offer literally new possibilities to capture images compared to systems that, to be exploited to the fullest, require greater commitment and attention. Those accustomed to the latest generation sensors will find the GRIII usable with excellent quality up to 3200 ISO. Beyond this threshold you risk having to act on noise reduction by losing some detail and color depth. Not surprisingly, to the high sensitivities, we tend to prefer the BN, excellent, and with a rather organic and analog yield. The snap focus, once the focusing distance suitable for the shooting situation has been set, returns absolute immediacy and thanks to the aps-c sensor allows you to take advantage of a greater depth of field than a full frame with the same aperture set. Very useful aspect in the street to avoid going up too much with the ISO due to greater closure of the diaphragm. Given the absence of an integrated viewfinder, I would have preferred an adjustable screen, not only to favor the composition but also to limit reflections in situations of strong and contrasted light. In conclusion, it is in my opinion a machine not only recommended for reportage and travel photography, but above all to experiment with an immediate and spontaneous way of doing photography, with the ultimate benefit of stimulating and enriching the creative process.

Pros: "mini" size, magnificent sensor, crazy lens

Cons: ridiculous battery, ISO over 3200

Opinion: I was looking for a compact camera to accompany the EOS R, to avoid always carrying a camera and at least two-three lenses (yes, I use only fixed focal lengths, so to be ready for any eventuality I always try to bring at least 35mm and 100mm). Among the various views, sifting a bit between forums and videos on youtube, I laid eyes on the latest update of the Ricoh compact, the GRIII. Very interesting sensor on paper (24mpx APS-C), toy size, controls in the right place and that fixed 28mm (equivalent) that is just the focal length from the street. Thanks to a discount coupon on Amazon, I decided to launch myself and buy it. I was a bit skeptical at the beginning: in short, you spend a lot of money to have a fullframe, you accumulate lenses on lenses to get the most out of definition, depth of field ... yet this little GR is really impressive. Very clean files, crazy lens definition, autofocus not bad. To be a compact, and in proportion, much better than the EOS R. I bought this compact to keep it always in the backpack, ready to shoot while I go to work, I'm around with friends; I ended up using it much more than the EOS R. The ml is there, at home, gathering dust, the GR is always in my hand. I'm not going to dwell on the "technical" issues of this camera, anyone who reads this review would do well before watching some video on youtube or reading a review of some professional; instead I intend to dwell on the shooting experience that you have with this gem. It makes you want to shoot. The quality that it manages to churn out in such a compact body makes it a really nice toy, it puts the photographer in a position to appreciate the street, the shadows, the details of the buildings, the faces of people. In short, the definitive machine for the street. And moreover, being so small, it does not seem to disturb in the slightest: it is difficult for someone to notice that you are photographing, and if they notice it, they will think that you are a tourist, given the size of the car. It is not frightening, it does not put you in awe. In short, it is the definitive creative tool to capture the everyday (in my opinion). After hitting the key point of this GR – in my opinion – it's time to talk about the negative sides, because, I assure you, it has them. And there are mainly two: the camera warms up (yes, using it for more than 5-10 minutes you start to feel a pleasant heat coming from the right side of the grip, probably the battery), it is a known problem and present on all GRIII. Not bad, it does not seem to me that it affects the operation in the slightest; it remains a defect, and as such must be recognized. The second, much more serious, is the battery life: it does not make 200 shots ... To carry around the GR by taking a walk you need at least 3-4 batteries! (thank goodness that buying non-original batteries does not end up on a road, the original costs 50 €!). The poor durability is THE defect of the GR: on the first day of use, unaware of this defect, I lost a lot of shots because at a certain point the little girl decided to turn off, and I could not revive her until I returned home. Summing up: it's the best compact camera around at a human price (of course, if you're a millionaire take a Leica Q2, it's clearly better). You just have to remember to buy batteries. Tip: forget the shots in the evening if you intend to climb above 3200ISO.

Pros: compactness, APSC sensor, jpeg, film simulations, in-camera editing, aesthetics, macro

Cons: high ISO

Opinion: I start by saying that I had a love/hate relationship with this little girl. Enthusiastic at the beginning, then less and sold, but in the end she returned home because she is unique in her kind and never leaves me today. Looking a bit at the photos I have taken in these years of transition to digital and return to photography, the images on average that I prefer were taken with this little one, also for the simple reason that she was (is) always with me. In some special shooting circumstances I also had difficulty understanding if the photo was taken with Ricoh or Leica Q2... I repeat in some special cases. That said, I find that it is difficult in low light when you have to make a portrait the AF does not always respond promptly and with the same ISO they seem noisier than Fuji (with the same aperture and times), around 3200 ... usable up to 1600. But if you shoot in B / W they are also excellent at 3200. For the rest super intuitive and flexible depending on how and what one photographs, in short, it is a machine that is sewn on the photographer.

Pros: A unique machine, you keep it in your pocket and if you need it is ready to give emotions that I do not remember with the Canon FF. It churns out a scary detail and a contrast to be amazed. Featherweight, excellent optics, for my taste the menu of simple approach is too rich but allows you to customize it to the fullest. The b\ is great at least for my palate.

Cons: Limited battery life, I get to 250\\260 photos but nothing serious bringing with it two stocks. For the rest it is exceptional.

Opinion: After more than a year and a half of use, the Canon FF is there that takes dust but I keep it because I love the SLR world, always preferring and I always say take the GRIII with me even when I do not think of using it. It has changed my mental approach to amateur photography and soon I will join the GRIIIx finding the 40mm its natural evolution, perhaps more congenial to my viewing angle, but I will keep them both because everyone will have his task. It's fun to use it by trying the various settings also thanks to the free Ricoh Recipes application. Accustomed to taking pictures with the Iphone 12 Pro Max I find the speed of execution of the GRIII surprising not feeling in any way the lack of the optical viewfinder. Frames and snap focus shots in street photography. He will be with me for many years.

Pros: Aps-c sensor on a compact, file quality, handle, weight, stabilized, touch screen, wide customizable menu, nd filter.

Cons: Laughable battery life, plus it heats up in continuous use, high iso seal.

Opinion: The GR3 is a compact with aps-c sensor and churns out excellent files, it is mainly used for street, it has a vast and customizable menu. Too bad for the short battery life, you have to take several spare! It has a handle with nice grip. I recommend buying the protective lens so as not to let in dust and the protective lens cover. Iso cleaned up to 1600.

Pros: Compactness and solid construction, image quality, operational speed. Macro function

Cons: Basically the battery

Opinion: Purchased for delicious I soon tuned in and replaced whatever other compact I had in use. This was quite predictable, minus the fact that slowly it would replace other types of cameras in my daily use: I discovered and appreciated its ability to do anything. It is by no means a camera just for the Street but defends and gives satisfaction in many areas such as landscape, set portrait and even a macro-like. Excellent lens for sharpness and color quality. Always ready thanks to its operational speed and compactness. I hope it is built to last, the impression it postpones is that. The only real note I move is related to the battery, obviously tiny and therefore not very large. Luckily very cheap and light spare batteries to take with you

Pros: size, weight, is pocket-sized, excellent yield, stabilization, three customizable shooting modes, excellent metal construction, possibility to add filters, you can buy an accessory sold by Ricoh to transform the 28mm into 21mm

Cons: Lack of 4K, lack of joystick, battery life, lack of external charger, lack of built-in flash, you can't charge the machine while using it, lack of built-in viewfinder

Opinion: Great camera I have the limited edition "Street Edition" gives you the optical viewfinder and two batteries. The performance is there, the snap focus is brilliant, the macro function is great, the ability to do the black and white directly with the jpeg. I love her because you can always carry her around, in your pocket and shoot at the right time. You can customize the machine at will and two batteries are enough to take a day of photos, turning off wireless, audio and LED I can take 250 shots with a battery cycle. I had to take a third-party external charger out of necessity. The non-adjustable screen is not a necessity because you can always adjust the machine from your mobile phone and shoot remotely. It is true that if he had had the electronic viewfinder it would have been another thing, but nevertheless it would not have been the same size and would have compromised its portability.

Pros: Everything, maybe I would have liked a posable display, but it would have affected the weight. I learned to shoot without a viewfinder.

Cons: I always have spare batteries, but I've rarely used them.

Opinion: With a traditional system I would always prefer wide angles and if I leave here with 28 mm I am in my meadow. And a 28 of not indifferent quality. Wide modularity in the composition of the image with almost exclusive details in the use of b/n. With its weight I risk forgetting it, so the image that inspires me prevails. If I have to think about a flaw, it's the way it's distributed. It's not easy to buy it. But everything goes against the distributor, not the manufacturer.

Pros: Compact, almost invisible - menu full of customizations - fast- stabilized

Cons: the fact that it is small, seems to be a bit fragile (battery/sd door) -

Opinion: I'm going through a period where I'm sick of complications... reluctantly I sold the Sdfour and so I came to a drastic choice. Compact quality or nothing. There are many that offer quality in minimal footprints, but when I come to terms with my needs I preferred the Gr3. The absence of the crosshairs made me waver in the choice... but then since the competition offered little or nothing, I took the Ricoh. Small but "peppered"... really almost disappears in his hand. I took it as the only room - a bit risky choice - but since in recent times I was only going out with a car and 1 lens (35mm/50mm) I was pleased with this 28mm mignon! On the net you will find evidence of this compact with industrial quantity... so keep an eye on youtube. Despite being small, I don't have much trouble managing dials and buttons... It's still very little that I use it, really few shots but I like the fact that it is really compact and not a tank to be unealing from the sheath every time. The aps-c sensor should give me good performance... See. I will update with my opinion towards this compact... at the moment I can only notice that it warms up a little in the area of the grip if put under stress in the use and, a little too much noise even at not high iso; maybe, but I have to set the settings better in the iso entry.

Pros: Super compact, invisible, lightweight, snap focus all over APS-C sensor

Cons: Battery life, no built-in flash

Opinion: After having for years the 2 I switched to 3, on the philosophy of the GR and general features I already said a lot in the previous review on 2, so I tell you something new. Focus improved a lot, finally a hybrid between contrast and phase detection, despite the big improvement that is still convenient in certain critical situations, for my habit use on all bodies machine the center focus point and I'm adopting the technique of the "Back button focus" that on this machine works really well. Really brilliant instead the new exposure condition with priority highlights, works impeccably and conveniently if you want creative photos. The overall color rendering of this new 24mpx sensor is great, but I'm sorry to admit it nothing like the GR2 that guaranteed a certain retro and vintage style charm, now you have to take the necessary post-production tricks to get similar results to the previous one. Instead as for black white is a spanna on top of every previous machine. Regarding the sensor plus pixels compared to the previous one, I say that you have to be careful in certain conditions of critical brightness, because with the 2 and its 16mpx even if a photo was micromox strangely remained acceptable and had a certain retro charm, now the 24mpx do not forgive (here there is little to do is still an APS-C with increased pixel crowding). From my tests the lens is a real blade and the maximum resolution is at diaphragm 5.6, usable up to f11 after the dif-breaker begins. Iso cleaned up to 3200 while at 6400 in my opinion is the maximum limit as it increases the grain and starts the color loss, in black you can go even further. Stabilizer in my opinion useless on a 28mm, although in certain conditions of low brightness of the scene can help, in fact it is activated on the car and comes into operation with slow shooting times. Cleaned up of the superfluous, at the top presents the dial with only the basic mode that each machine should have P/A/S/M and the 3 U programs, on these three programs once customized for their own way and conditions of photographing with this object becomes simply perfect and no longer enters the menu. My carefully searched specimen and well-specific freshman, turns out to be free of any youth defects, no problems with the joypad, no intense overheating in the middle of August after an entire shooting session with a battery cycle. About the ring that you easily unhook, I confirm it, although on my specimen is not as accentuated as the first exits, anyway to definitively solve the problem just use a tiny piece of black duct tape in the part below and then screw it over the ring, I assure you that it will not detach and you will not even see the small piece of tape. For those who complain about the absence of an EVF sight, they have not understood anything about this machine and its philosophy.

Pros: Unparalleled sharpness, leaf shutter, construction

Cons: Battery life, optional viewfinder

Opinion: Perfect as a travel room or as a support for shooting with flash in the outside, only problem, the monitor that sometimes under the sun does not facilitate the framing! Built very well, from a professional feeling to the touch, the keys are a bit small and not "weighted"! Auto focus very precise, but that hunt in case of little contrast! Great L nd in the room!

Pros: "The best camera is the one you have with you", value for money, display, black and white, snap focus mode, leaf shutter, IQ

Cons: Battery that lasts little, heats up easily, sensor that gets dirty easily despite the internal cleaning function

Opinion: Stealth-looking camera that turns out to be deadly for that instant and somewhat "aggressive" street photography that you couldn't do with other cameras. In fact, because of its compactness and slyness it turns out to be really invisible and allows you to capture a shot in all those occasional outings where you would never think to bring your equipment. The compactness does not affect the quality of the lens and sensor that allow you to take home very good shots and malleable definitely superior to all other cameras of this type. the strong point is the spontaneity and immediacy with which it is used, in fact it lends itself a lot to the shot in JPEG (both in a very good black and white and color with the POSITIVE filter) and to use in automation as a diaphragm priority with manual fire by setting the snap focus mode that allows you to easily set a distance from the subject; less to use completely in manual and autofocus, however usable. In short, for those who do not know it turns out to be a surprising camera for the use for which it has been studied. Like all cameras it is not free of defects (dust on the sensor, battery that lasts little, overheats with nothing) but the perfect camera does not exist.

Pros: Image quality, speed, compactness.

Cons: Nobody

Opinion: Crazy machine! Nothing to say, he accompanies me every day. It seems stupid to talk about Cons in a machine that targets such a narrow niche. You can keep it in your pocket quietly, it has a quality of the lady and, as far as I'm concerned, customized with the snap focus and the photometry weighted on the lights becomes the perfect tool for an ultra discreet street. The battery sucks, it's true, but I've never finished one given the stingy use I do. I see, in fact, this Ricoh GRIII as a tool to be taken around in all those situations where the X-Pro 2 is redundant. Am I going out to dinner? Ricoh. Jazz Festival where a mirrorless can't get in? Ricoh. Evening walk on the road where the Pro 2 is too much. For me this machine responds to the statement "the best camera is the one you have with you" and this work does it divinely. Of course, with a pop-up viewfinder, it would probably become the sublimation of the street, but already so it has no rivals and sometimes it also does well to "satisfy".

Pros: Fast, precise, very nice file, deadly autofocus and fantastic lens. Technological Jewel!

Cons: Low battery autonomy!

Opinion: Came the camera that has not betrayed expectations, perfect for us amateurs especially for its portability, speed and accuracy. Excellent The lens of the previous version but with this it borders on perfection with fantastic details and very little aberration, almost insignificant. Very convenient and functional connectivity with smartphones and apps very intuitive unlike other brands/apps!

Pros: Small, light weight, manageability, sharpness and image quality. Simple functions made to take pictures. Ignition and focus speed. Snap function ideal for Street photography

Cons: Battery lasts a little. Lens ring is lost 2 times out of three. Warm handle in continuous use. Improved with the new 1.10 firmware

Opinion: The GR 3 is a machine for those who love Street and Urban photography. Small, discreet and fast. Combined with the quality of the photos the binomial is fantastic. The focal length of 18, 3mm is very wide. You can also use the 35mm and 50mm with the crop function. I think it's very functional. There is no loss of sharpness. There are problems with regard to the decorative ring of the lens which, although hooked, takes off too easily. Twice out of three will parade. The battery is too small. I with the stand by a minute and the off disabled I can pull in two hours a 60in of shots. Third-party batteries in your pocket recommended. Then the handle, in which the battery is housed, if it is used in a continuous heat enough. I hope Ricoh with the upcoming firmware updates solves it. Overall the GR 3 is an excellent photography tool. The 24MP sensor is sharp, bright and stabilized on 3 axes. For a wide angle is perfect. For lovers of Streetclassic. With some points to improve surely, but the perfection after a while ' bored me.
