Pros: From landscape photographer: "Everything"

Cons: From landscaped amateur: "Don't have it"

Opinion: Light, versatile, a fantastic sensor and a dynamic range like few others. For years I was looking for something similar, a machine body that was not a brick, that would allow me to carry a minimum of kit, plus an easel and a couple of targeted accessories to make landscaping without having to sweat the proverbial seven shirts, maybe as a tourist walking around a city in the summer. Of course, choosing between her and the D850 was not easy, but after spending a couple of days (first with one and then with the other), I gave up on the lower weight and the greater transportability. The only regret coming from the analogue: the optical viewfinder. However, the EVF of this Z7 is beautiful and has its advantages, first of all being able to see what the shot will look like even before you do it. And the fact that I only have one memory slot, as a photo-amateur, I don't find it so frustrating. I can understand the professional, but I do not go into the substance because I am not competent in the matter and only one memory slot is enough for me and advances. Absolutely recommended to landscapers.

Pros: Stabilized sensor and BSI, robustness and dynamism.

Cons: possibly the single XQD slot but personally I do not find any big problems in its use.

Opinion: I've been using this machine for a year now. I went everywhere, often take long walks in the mountains and turned out to be the best companion of adventures. Also being able to shoot even with optics like the nikkor 105 mm f1.4 with freehand times of 1/20' is something incredible! The battery quietly allows you to take home a day of shooting, the tropicalization does its great job and even with the weather there is no concern, besides the big treat is the FTZ adaptor ring that allows you to use any Nikkor AFS optics without any kind of loss of detail or operating problems. Absolutely recommended.

Pros: Robust, intuitive menu, excellent files and lots of options!

Cons: Price, autofocus not yet at the level of competition and battery life

Opinion: In my humble opinion it is a little jewel, maybe a little heavy with adapter and telephoto lens , but lighter than the reflexes ! The apps work discreetly, as do Nikon software! I look great with the24 70 kit, as I only photograph landscapes as an alternative by the time I have the Tamron 70 300. The feeling is that the camera has been improved a lot via firmware ! Let's hope the Nikon engineers continue like this! What to say, after 2 months I am satisfied !!!!!!! Suggested purchase !

Pros: Significant difference from the Tamron 2.8 optics That I used on the D850 before

Cons: You have to get used to it, it looks like a toy in your hand.

Opinion: I have heard and read discordant opinions and no on this camera. It should be tested, tested and then evaluated. I can say even if I've been sniffing it for a few days, which is a really nice mirrorless and I think for the kind of photos I take, that is landscape and portraitist is one of the best. I started with the classic 24-70 f4 and the 14-50 f4. The yield is in terms of sharpness, resolution and dynamic range, superior to the great to the 2.8 tamron optics that I used on the D850 that I keep holding on to hold on to. Of course the Z 2.8 optics are definitely superior, but here on the downside, the costs are really prohibitive, this in my opinion is the biggest criticism I would like to make. For the rest I am more than satisfied.10 days ago in Iceland I carried a backpack with 15 kg between lenses and cameras here, with the Z7 system this will not happen anymore, and for a 70-year-old is not cheap, as is not little the filters to slab 10 cm instead of 15 , and the results that from what I'm checking will live up to this small big camera, the purchase of which I highly recommend.

Pros: Ergonomics, file quality and cleanliness, resolution, lightness, electronic viewfinder and display quality

Cons: Presence of only one memory card, price, location of some buttons

Opinion: I've owned it for an exact year, along with Nikon's top reflexes like the D5 D850 and D500. Having also top-of-the-range Sony, such as A7RIV and A9, I will try to express my opinion not to make a comparison between the two ML systems but simply because I use both systems. The Nikon Z7 is a D850 with some advantages but also with some disadvantage. The Nikon menu is the organization of the same is the best ever, it makes no sense to compare it to that of Sony which is painful and twisted. Battery life is modest but I bypassed the fake problem by taking the dedicated Battery Grip which thus improves the already good ergonomics. Instead, a single slot is really a big limitation. The burst (for bird photographer or sports) is ridiculous and the memory buffer is almost non-existent, and to become decent you have to either shoot only in jpeg or raw 12-bit. The AF is sometimes uncertain. And so it's useless just to think of using the Z7 for photo hunting or for sport. It's crazy. The Z7 is extraordinary in other genres, such as portraiture, especially after the recent firmware update, in the landscape, in studio photography. In short, a beautiful object that has a lot of limitations and you immediately understand that Nikon came out with the Z series lagging behind Sony and with serious shortcomings. Hopefully in the models to come, maybe Z8 and Z9. I only took the native 24-70/2.8, extraordinary optics. Having an entire Nikon kit from 10 to 500mm, in other cases I use the adapter, which makes the overall balance a little worse. My vote is 6... a sufficient with reserve, maybe the Z6 is better.

Pros: Reflex ergonomics, low weight, advanced and innovative system compared to reflex, compatibility with the new CFexpress memory-cards, image quality with the Expeed 6, compatibility with all optical slits F-Mount, Picture Control improved with new features, Internal battery charging via USB connection, 5-axle stabilization, Z-Mount attack brightness, burst speed, competitive price.

Cons: Nikon mirrorless system still raw, a single slot for memory cards, AF-C not easy and unintuitive, Z-Mount optical park lacking, needs study and loyalty.

Opinion:

Pros: Ergonomics, monitors, weight

Cons: Badly arranged keys, a memory slot, lack of fixed series optics, non-professional controls.

Opinion: After having for a long time Nikon D850 I decided to try The Z system, initially did not look bad, having the Nikon menu in a mirrorless body I liked, because having Sony with a slightly more articulate menu this was a walk. After that initial enthusiasm came out the differences, although already said by others the single slot is a cavolta, but the thing that less liked me and that the more difficult I was is the new key arrangement all right, in addition they removed the button to the sinis side near the graft present on all Nikon reflexes to change focus points and focus mode, here you have to set it somewhere else and this I just don't like it. I find, however, that the dials and controls in general, are not up to a professional body of 3800 euros, I understand on the Z6 but here at least something different had to do it, as it is also in the slad sector see d750 and d810, both full professional frames but the second with commands for a more Pro approach. In the end we lack fixed optics with diaphragms at f/1.4, so advertised for this new graft that will allow to make opticals brighter and continue to release after a year optics to f/1.8, it seems to me so much a move to make money knowing that as soon as they come out brighter people will want to change them, if I look at the other brands like Canon has already brought out optics at f/1.2 and even a 28-70 f/2, here we are still behind, said this ido, are wasted money If you really want to try this system take Z6.

Pros: Functions and image quality of the D850; MAF points almost to the edges; directly in the scene magnification viewfinder, full menus, review shots with data and histograms, video shooting, level, shooting in full-viewfinder DX format; enviable lightness; possibility of totally silent shooting; 9 fps; end front-back focus issues; infinite customizations for those who have the time and disposition to deepen them. Full compatibility with SU-800 and old-fashioned flashes. Native stellar optics. U1 U2 U3 ways to customize. Adjustable touch display.

Cons: It requires a long apprenticeship and unprecedented precautions for those who were used to SLRs. Poor battery life. Buttons not found without detaching the eye from the viewfinder. AF ways a lot to study. Sensor more exposed to dust. One memory slot. Expensive native optics, seriously delayed, lack super canvases. Ais optical compatibility and limited AF compared to the same range SLRs. Battery grip without vertical shutter button. Electronic viewfinder with an unnatural vision and that darkens on the most beautiful.

Opinion: UPDATED November 2020 - Switching from one DSLR to another is a manageable thing, switching from reflex to this mirrorless turns out to be more complicated, you have to arm yourself with a lot of patience. The image quality is the same as the D850, never seen the infamous banding. FANTASTIC for thoughtful photos, portraits, landscapes, now with the new firmware I found improvements in the AF for pursuit that was my crutch. We have to take our hand! Three merits in addition to the known ones: 1) the level in the crosshairs, I who always take crooked photos. Nothing to do with the invisible darts of the SLRs. But it is all too cumbersome 2) When I decide to shoot in DX (19.5 MP) or other reduced formats I have the image in full viewfinder, infinitely better than the square in the viewfinder of the SLRs. I kind of have two cars in one. But it's easy to forget to go back to FX... 3) In the crosshairs I have the focus peaking and I can zoom in a lot to check the focus: obviously with long canvases it takes a support or it vibrates everything and it is useless. The sensitivity of focus peaking must be adjusted from time to time, otherwise working with a wide angle with large PDC you find the entire colored scene. Some negative things: 1) think about reviving ai and ais manual optics, maybe super canvases, adding the stabilization of the machine body seems very tempting, but there is one aspect that spoils everything: with the FTZ adapter and ais manual optics not equipped with CPU (in practice all but 500/4 P and 45 P) you work in stop-down as if it were a Russian REFLEX 70s! The viewfinder is brilliant with the sun but in the evening you have to frame ta and close the diaphragm at the time of shooting without seeing the value in the viewfinder. Exifs record only the maximum opening of the goal. Compatibility with old optics is therefore more limited than with dSLRs of the same range. With AF and AFD you also lose autofocus, as on entry level SLRs. Avoid Samyang S, they don't have the chip and weigh more than the reflex versions with the chip! 2) If you forget the photo/movie selector on movies and start taking photos again, even from the viewfinder, you take the video resolution without noticing it. Remember to move the selector, which on the SLRs did not prevent you from taking full-resolution photos from the viewfinder even on the video position. 3) The battery lasts really little even with the use of the viewfinder only. Good thing I have 3 batteries. 4) Factory is set to go on standby shooting after 30 seconds, after which the camera to wake up takes an abundant second! Better to increase time, however, it consumes more battery: targets continue to seal in AFC. And anyway the viewfinder darkens in half, before going off, always at the moment you need! 5) In my inability, most of the buttons are untraceable without taking your eye off the viewfinder and going in search. That's a lot. They are configurable, but you have to be polyps and have good memory! Tutorial by the legendary Morten Hilmer from the minute 6.00: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-3Vopb_sAU Otherwise you have to press "i" and move in the menu without taking your eye off the viewfinder. The viewfinder: (given that I hate electronic vision, it does not reflect the scene in front of me) by default when you move the eye away from the viewfinder the display takes over and vice versa, so if with the display facing up a finger approaches the viewfinder the display turns off; resolves this by changing mode with the button to the left of the viewfinder. The modes can be limited by menu, if there are too many. On U1 U2 and U3 I saved three complex settings for action, landscapes, portraits... Too bad that the single or burst shooting mode is not memorized but always remains the last set. Instead you have to save each time on U1, U2, U3 the name you give to the files. Now I have 14-30/4, 24-70/4, 70-200/2.8 and I'm waiting for a super canvas.

Pros: Light, handy, AF, burst, electronic viewfinder, precision, battery, stabilizer, excellent adapter included in the package

Cons: Maybe the weight but despite you ML is really a TOP of the line. The price? But the car I think is worth it...

Opinion: Purchased for a week and still I have not had the way to hack as it should be at 100%. I upgraded the firmware from 1.02 (so mine was among the latest produced) at 1.03 without any problems. Possessor of a D610 and D500, I added this Z7 which goes to replace almost completely the 610 on the way of retirement. Saving weight in a long working day makes you feel absolutely. Very light, fast and precise. Used, until now, only with adaptor because I have no native optics. Updates will follow!

Pros: weight, brightness viewfinder... Burst... Tracking... No problem x XQD and battery

Cons: Price?.. For now, nothing... Maybe weight with adapter and tele..

Opinion: I bought it from 20 days... I haven't stressed her yet... In difficult conditions. I come from a D500 and D610, I thought it for street photo with 24/70 view agility, weight and resolution.. And in fact when the mounts the Tele (70/200) with adaptor becomes equivalent to a reflex.. High resolution, losing the benefits of weight and clutter... We will see the lenses Z7, both costs and weight. Use, ergonomics and menu always Nikon.. A little simplified but complete. I am already very happy with the D500 regarding noise, I will check the FF sensor using it in more stressful conditions. Pity not having had a month ago in Lapland (Aurora) (it went well anyway also laD500) I had not yet plans to buy it... I would have worked less with Lr (?), I do not know! For now I'm happy and excited especially from the detail.. About the battery and the XQD card.. No problem........ By the way who knows after how long the card that Nikon comes from in promotion? Thank you............................................ Ps: Made proof ISO 16000.... 1/25 f4 70 mm free hand, backed by shoulder... Of the fires near Turin... From my window.... Very large noise, VR and resolution...

Pros: weight, focus brightness, lens quality, effective for those available, presumed for those programmed.

Cons: price; AF not always accurate; ergonomics of the commands.

Opinion: Tried hard for a weekend in order to evaluate the purchase, for the moment postponed. This is because the comparison between pros and cons does not place a decisive approach to the former. Tried with 24.70, with Zeiss and NiKon targets. The AF is not always accurate with its 24-70; in particular at full openness, it does not always manage to focus precisely on the eyes of the subject photographed at close range; With 85 1.4 and 300 4 Nikon, the AF worsens slightly; with the 135 DC loses the automatic AF and with the Zeiss does not allow the signaling of the reached fire in the crosshairs; however, focus aside, it maintains the quality of these goals. Relatively high price; the difference between Z6 and Z7 seems to be due more to marketing choices than to different industrial costs; The price of the FTZ adapter, which should almost be given away to incentivize the purchase of those with numerous Nikon optics, is exaggerated. The discount campaign now in place brings the Nital price closer to the international one, but it does not completely solve the cost problem and also gives the feeling that it can anticipate a rapid upgrade of the machine (Nikon, in case, would do well to formalize its own projects in a formal and challenging way). I will probably buy one, but only when the AF problem is solved and Nikon's development policies become clear. Finally, it is not advisable to change the lens often as it is very easy to soil the sensors. SUCCESSIVE ADD: The firmware update has fixed the focus issues; the difference in cost with the Z6 remains: it is inexplicable that in Italy it is more than 1,000 euros while in the rest of the world it usually stands at 600.

Pros: Construction solidity, viewfinder, portability

Cons: Menu A little unclear, AF not always accurate

Opinion: I State that I have this fabulous Friday car so mine are just impressions to skin. I Come from Fuji XH1 where the menus were neat and clear, plus had the possibility of great customizations. I was impressed by the construction of the body and the solidity it transmits without too much burden on the weight and portability. The AF is not always accurate, especially in low light conditions. But They say will be resolved with a firmware update. So Far tested with 24-70 mm in kit and I must say that I do not mind, indeed. I took it with the 35 mm f 1.8 which I'll try as soon as possible. I find myself very well with the ring nuts and also with the custom keys. I Don't really like having to rotate the lens to start shooting.... Solvable in a simple way. Apart from a bit of discomfort and initial disorientation in the management of the menus I'm taking a hand and it convinces me more and more, even though I have never had Nikon before. Update Stressed quite a bit in various street exits... Party with battery charged and I did the whole day without replacing it with about 400-420 shots. Great. For Claudiolm finally after 40 days came the card that was included in the price..... If I had to wait for that to use the car.... To soon other impressions.

Pros: compactness, versatility, weight.

Cons: The current shortage of "Z-mount" lenses, single memory card slot

Opinion: I'm not a professional but I used Nikon from the far 1987 when I was given an F-801 for the age, at the time I used a F2 (beautiful) on loan to do weddings. After a short time with some compact digital (always Nikon) I rediscovered the "pleasure of the Mirror" with the D80 then the D90 then finally the full frame with the Df (beautiful), I had D750 and D850 (gorgeous, pity the clutter)... So I know a little bit! And this is uproily Nikon!!! The sensor of the D850 in a lighter and more compact body, with the 24-70 F/4 in kit The results are often incredible, if it does so with a f/4 who knows with the promised F/0.95!!! I look forward to the zoom 24-70mm but f/2.8 and the 70-200mm f/2.8. Lighter and smoother menus, buttons moved (compared to D750 and D850) but it is a moment to get used to it, exceptional viewfinder for check parameters, brightness and speed, no nostalgia of the optical one. The pseudo-battery problem is obvious in the most trivial of ways: a spare battery! (I always talk about non-professional uses, of course). True that the xqd are expensive but equally true that they are more reliable and fast. Probably to those who wont miss the second slot, either for a "mirroring" salvafiles or to maybe otherwise distribute JPG's from NEF or images from video. You will not miss the mirror and especially you will not miss the clutter of certain camera bodies. Maybe you will miss 3000 and pass euro...;-) I hope I have given advice, good at all! There are really great shots here!!!

Pros: Lightness and compactness (useful not only by clicking but also traveling by plane), clear and detailed viewfinder, autofocus (including tracking), reactivity in the shot, burst speed, stabilizer.

Cons: Battery life lower than the FX SLR (although I came to over 2 ' 100 shots in RAW but over a time frame reduced to 4 hours before replacing it, and it was not completely discharged) but significantly higher than stated by the House.

Opinion: A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to be able to test my new mirrorless Nikon Z7 during a triathlon camp in Larnaca (Cyprus) lasted about ten days. I have reviewed all the optics of the kit (mounted on the adapt FTZ, as I still do not own Z series lenses): 16mm f/2.8 fisheye, 14-24mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8, 85mm f/1.4,300mm f/2.8 and 600mm F/4, shooting over 9000 NEF (RAW) in All light situations and in an area for which Z7 has not been expressly designed (sports photography). I could shoot with the 600-during the bike rides-freehand with total control of the frame, what unthinkable with the D5 or the D850... Z7 turned out to be really versatile, practical and light. In the electronic viewfinder you always have the situation under control, the clear and sharp image of what you are preparing to shoot helps you enormously in the frame and seize the right moment. Thanks to the absence of the mirror you can follow and correct the frame with extreme simplicity while you follow a subject shooting in burst. Also the focus (3d tracking included) is reliable and accurate. I also had with me the D850, which I used both the world Ironman 70.3 in South Africa and the Challenge 70.3 Forte Village in Sardinia as the main camera body: Son managed to do only 28 shots, compared to Z 7 I seemed to have gone back in time (that Of the Nikon F2 film)... On XQD cards I confirm what is written by Nat47: never had problems and use since the time of D4. In summary: I passed definitively to mirrorless, putting on sale all my SLR cameras.

Pros: Excellent viewfinder, a very light D850, very large bayonet allows the light to enter evenly from the center to the edges, NB on the battery I recommend you see the actual tests 1400 shots and still 5% charge of course if you use Live view drops

Cons: Price in Italy

Opinion: I have a date in test (demo) I could do many lots of tests I could compare it to d850 also demo and D5 demo accurate that the demos were the same that are for sale in the market. Excellent viewfinder have exceeded. Bayonet mount of very large lenses, which allows a uniform light cone from the center to the edges, this allows the use of native lenses also not very bright and therefore lighter. The battery compartment was very personally attached to the use in photos and with a moderate Live view use the battery held for 1400 shots retaining 5% charge. I recommend the tests in the pro store every one has a demo in store you can test the use of the battery. And a great car in a small body honestly tell you that the price and a bit offline compared to His Majesty Sony A9 that to date and the undisputed queen of the pro mirrorles but this Z7 is a princess

Pros: is a Nikon mirrorless FF high resolution

Cons: To listen to the critics for the battery life

Opinion: The sensor of the 850 in a significantly lower weight. Excellent in every point of view. If you are Nikon lovers, this is the Sony antivirus par excellence. And then with the adapters, it becomes an all-out unique with absolute backward compatibility. Only flaw not having it. The Z7, wears out who does not have it! And believe me, there are so many people who would like it, even very owners Sony and Canon.

Pros: Lightness, perfect viewfinder, outstanding raw files Quality

Cons: Battery not sufficiently enhanced, aesthetics of the machine unappealing (negligible details), single slot

Opinion: I took from a few weeks the Z7 to associate it to my d750 with the idea of using it mainly for street and reportage, I did some tests of portraits in the condition of natural light and artificial, also trying to push the ISO to the limit and I must say that the results They're amazing. The lens from kit, despite being unbright, returns extremely soft blurred at maximum aperture and I find it perfect for the road. I tried my fixed lenses with the adapter and the quality of the shots remains great. For the moment I can not say much more, but the first results make me absolutely satisfied, apart from the battery that unfortunately, as all the mirrorless, lasts little, but just organize with some of the reserve to use for travel and long shootings.

Pros: compactness, weight, robustness, manual focus

Cons: Battery life not at the height of Nikon SLR cameras

Opinion: I have this machine for about a month, having flanked it with my Nikon SLR cameras, Df, D750, D850, which I share with my daughter (who is excited about this new mirrorless). The Z7 goes to my personal notice as the D850, at least for those that are my needs (in my life I have never used the autofocus except with the center point and AF-S, and not even the burst shot). On the results plan I therefore consider them equivalent (also as for dynamic range, at least so far I have not found banding in the recovery of Shadows). The Z has the advantage of lightness (for me rather important) and stabilization, the 850 that of the viewfinder that, as I think, it gives back contrasts and blurred much better. Of course, I think that in time I would sell the D850 and invest on new optics for the Z that will come out later. I took 24-70 and 35 and they go very very well. I use with satisfaction also some Ais, exploiting the ease of the MAF allowed by the electronic viewfinder. Overall I am convinced that the mirrorless system is destined to assert itself more and more. The single card for me is not a problem, while the battery in my opinion should be upgraded.

Pros: Sensor quality, easy and precise use of manual focus (incredible through the electronic viewfinder in low light conditions), weight and ergonomics.

Cons: As Nat47 says, by force of things, battery life

Opinion: After years of D90 and entry level optics I broke through the FF wall too. I had read "opinions" of dubious authoritativeness and impartiality and watched video denigrators on the first Nikon mirrorles. I was therefore very undecided between D850 and Z7, and only thanks to the help of Alberto Ghizzi Panizza I could understand that the Z7 was my case. Incaponito in wanting to use manual optics I would have mistaken to take the excellent D850; With the electronic viewfinder the manual focus can be done practically in the dark. Even the ergonimia I was pleasantly surprised, I had only done some shots with a mirrorless than another brand. I thank Alberto and I am very happy with the purchase. I would like to say to those who want to take it not to give too much attention to pseudo reviews that to listen to them today make me smile. I take this opportunity for a thank you also to Michele of photos ELITE in Parma. I hope to have been useful, greetings to all:)

Pros: Lightness, quality, ISO, resolution........

Cons: Like all the mirrorless maybe the battery

Opinion: Hi I've been with Z7 for over three weeks, and I can honestly say it's fabulous in all respects. Easy to use the menu the best ever, very nice view with great data reading as well as LCD. The photos, both RAW and JPEG are excellent, the menus FN1 FN2 as well as the key I are customizable at will. At high ISO excellent even if it remains inferior to my D5, AF excellent, hooks well the subject, I'm using it with fixed lenses that were at the bottom of a bag for a long time, and I must say that with the stabilizer is really a lust, however even with other lenses STA You do not have a very fast focus problem; If used with the adapter no problem because it protects the sensor from dust instead with its objectives Ocio! With regard to XQD cards I use very good for years Nikon D4S D5 and I do not do all the paranoia that I hear from the pseudo commentators YouTube, which by the way I have always been provided with the pack of 64 GB other than SD..... We go to the cons, the battery clearly does not last as on the other Nikon however is acceptable, in the end a little ' disappointed of the objectives that interest me not available immediately (24/70 2.8 and 70/200 2.8).
