Pros: Sharpness, lightness, exploitable brightness, rubber ring on the bayonet, flare seal, distortion present but contained

Cons: Uncertainties in the maf at high openings, feeling of "ballerina" construction, polycarbonate filter step

Opinion: I would like to start by saying that I use this lens on the Nikon Df, a camera valid in many respects, but not that of high resolution: with 16 mpxl the lens resolution is not put to the test so much: in fact this 24 is doing very well from the center to the edges, even at the high openings, but I would like to see results on a D850 or D810. However, for me it does its job perfectly, and with the Df it forms a pairing that does not fear any poor light conditions. The Af is quick enough, although using the maximum openings, at medium short distance and with low light it is better to rely on the central point of the Df. If you center the m.a.f., this 24 is nice sharp even at full opening, and allows interesting blurry effects quite unusual with a decidedly wide-angle shot such as that allowed by this focal. On polycarbonate construction: it is more the sensation it gives, which, moreover, translates into the advantage of a surprisingly low weight. It would be a real tropicalization, but at least the rubber ring on the bayonet is there, and with a protection filter screwed in front I managed to use this lens under a reasonable drizzle without having any problem. There is no stabilization, but with a short, bright focal point, and with the extraordinary quality at the high ISO of the Df, for me it is not a serious problem: with longer focals it probably would be, but with this 24 I shot in really critical situations without throwing away that very few shots in which I had ventured shutter speed unlikely with a non-VR lens (and maybe even with vr...) ? Resists very well to the backlight , distorts relatively little for the focal length it has, the cdl at the edges is as intuitable strong at t.a., but most of the time I do not correct it, I often find it pleasant. From f:4 onwards it is no longer a problem. To the average diaphragms (of course, but I want to point this out) it gives its best and shows a sharpness that "exasses" compared to the sensor characteristics of my Df. 16mpxl is enough for me, it goes by itself that other genres and preferences require higher resolutions. I still think this 24 to the mid-diaphragms (4 or 5.6) wouldn't affect the reflexes that are most equipped with mpxl, but that's just my feeling. Good light

Pros: Sharp, light and luminous. Distortion contained.

Cons: Not received

Opinion: I have been using it for about 4 months and I have to say that I found myself very well. Autofocus fast and pretty much always correct, almost absent distortion. As for the construction, I can not criticize the choice of material as it contributes to lightness. Fair price for the quality of the optics. The dimensions are perfect and it is well balanced on my d610. I have never had flare problems in these months of use, maybe due to the nanocrystals treatment, absent on the other lenses of the 1.8 series in my possession. If you like the particular length of the 24mm, it is definitely recommended

Pros: Sharpness, weight.

Cons: Construction and tactile sensation

Opinion: I've been using it for about a year on Nikon full frame, with a 16-sensor and a 36-megapixel sensor. With both the sharpness is very high starting from f: 2.8.rnA my opinion provides the highest quality af: 5.6 / 6.3. The blur is sufficiently pleasant. Its lightness is admirable. The autofous of my sample is precise and fast. Good distortion correction and in the norm that of CT vignetting. the only drawback for me is the construction that will also be robust, but that certainly with that plastic material does not return the pleasant sensations that the old Nikkor gave me. But today things are like that and there is no longer the aperture ring.

Pros: In the case of a 24mm: everything.

Cons: It's a bit pricey, but the substance there is. F1.8 often goes out of focus.

Opinion: Half length length, diameter72, for a total weight of 3.5 inches: an optimal packaging that can be used in any photographic condition. It is not tropicalized, but has a peripheral gasket on the graft (stuff that some tropicalized do not have, for example). The MaF ring is soft and precise to use. To be a 24mm is practically free of distortion. By taking close-ups to tiled walls, for example, the majolica lines are almost perfectly rectilinear. TA is portentous: incisive and responsive, detailed as a macro, but not with macrocontrasti (dishes) of the macros. It is therefore a surgical lens, but it can very well be employed in more 'passionate' applications. Anti-reflection treatment is a reality: it filters any type of AC while maintaining realistic, greenish or bluish colors as well as some other latest generation lenses. To make yourself aware of it, you have to challenge it in the most extreme backlight. Chromed surfacesAnd reflectors are not affected by any spherocromatism or robe of that kind. Flare? What's this??! Excellent photographic tool. If you make horizontal full-field photos at f8 (for example), the degree of detail that is on the extreme dx margin is the same as in the center and the opposite margin. It is to say that I use it on 12Mp, but I think that 24 is the same resolving, and almost completely even on the 36 of the D810 (as you can read around the web). It has a blur soft and relaxed (less nervous than 28 f1.8G). Clearly it is not comparable to that of 24 f1.4G (for three-dimensionality and detachment between focal plane), but frankly, on 24mm is not what I seek, myself personally. And we still talk about very different prices (3: 1 ratio). The AF engine is quick, silent and pretty accurate. I think it statistically suffers from the 'need' to be calibrated in a car that has the 85 f1.8G. All open, my specimen mounted on machinesLike D3 and D700, it fails to fire in many photos, unfortunately. Closed to f2 significantly improves. The minimum distance of MaF is fabulous: the subject can be shot with the ends of the petals of the hood! At f16 (all closed), it generates good light spots with 14-pointed stars. The average price of the new (Nital), today (May2017) stands at 850euro (in some shops it costs 880euro). Is it worth saving 300, for the import version? I would say it's worth it, regardless of that, but those 300eurs less are not bad!

Pros: Extreme sharpness, lightness, cost

Cons: practically nothing, if you assume that the slightly poor plastic has become the standard of almost all nikkor

Opinion: I'm a lover of wide angles so in the house I have several, including zooms 14-24 and 16.35. Beautiful beasts, it's just to say, but in both the 24 mm focal is a bit of a weak point, in my opinion it is not satisfactory. So years ago I also bought the superlative 24 f 1.4 and was finally satisfied. This was until a few days ago, when I was presented with the excellent opportunity of a nice 24 mm f 1.8 with a month of life at an essential price. And of course I didn't give up.... I'm starting to say that the new little guy is built along the lines of 20 mm and 28 mm f 1.8, the usual plastic absolutely not eye-catching but the optical performance, well, those are really of absolute level! Extreme sharpness (not even comparable to that of the AfD 24 mm) from edge to edge, excellent bokeh, classic G-series colours and saturation. At TA loses little and nothing, it is absolutely a pleasure to use it in indoor conditions or cmq of low brightness. Yes, I'm falling in love with it. I can't say it's superior to the big brother 24 f 1.4, I only did empirical tests and, photographing already at 1.8, the difference I can't see. I repeat, it is not worth the big brother as cost, weight and footprint and above all performance, but it is well asserted and in my opinion is superior to anything else of equal range, 24 Art included.
