Pros: Build quality, versatility

Cons: a little dark

Opinion: Nikon house lens of undoubted construction quality. The feeling to the touch gives a feeling of indisputable reliability. Versatility is certainly a point in favor since it allows you to cover a rather important focal range, thus allowing you to range between different photographic genres. At the same time it has from its an absence of brightness (but on the other hand we are not talking about a fixed) that can make the nose twist, but this is contrasted with the presence of stabilization that therefore allows a wider maneuver on the shooting times. It may suffer from a slight back focus especially on some machine bodies (on my D7000 I warned this problem) to which you can overcome by calibrating the lens with the help of the reflex menu. Also recommended because once bought it will be difficult to get it out of the car.

Pros: Large focal excursion that allows you to be very versatile

Cons: Absolutely dark

Opinion: A lens that attracts for its enormous versatility: you can go from a wide angle 16mm to a almost 85mm canvas, which allows once inserted in the car not to take it off so easily. But in the end, its value becomes its flaw: it does not excel in much, it is more practical than performing, it does not have a particular yield and is decidedly dark. Finally it's quite heavy, which doesn't help.

Pros: Goal really everything to do you put it on the machine and you don't take it off anymore, the 16 mm really make a difference.

Cons: Nothing to say except for the lampshade too thin, to be fussy, even the slightly dark diaphragms that can be cheated with excellent stabilization.

Opinion: A really excellent lens in my opinion the best Nikon all-rounder lens on apsc. the 16-80 2.8, 4 does not have the same quality it costs almost double and is certainly more bulky and heavier, I use it on D7000 for several years especially when traveling or for family photos, once bought you can not do without it , in my opinion, is highly recommended.

Pros: Versatile

Cons: Brightness

Opinion: I also had it in mating at the D7000, it was still very good, now D7500-16-80 which of course is better. I always felt good, great to take on the road, but then to do some more consistent work and for a better definition I just went to 16-80 on 20.89 Mpx. The only thing unfriendly is the opening 3.5-5.6 too low, but I made so many shots printed then 30x45 on cotton paper and I'd say it holds well

Pros: Optics still built with Nikon's healthy old criteria

Cons: slightly dark but fully usable. A little flare in the pushed backlights.

Opinion: Purchased used by Rebuy with 3-year warranty for my Nikon D500 instead of the sigma 17-70 that it replaced great, not only for the best wide-angle focal excursion and canvas side. It produces a well-defined image with saturated and contrasting colors. It does not have the brightness or treatment of the most recent brother but the figure to which it is proposed is definitely a best buy. The images produced in my opinion are definitely superior to the Sigma that I proceeded to sell after testing for over a month the new optics. In my view it goes well with the D500 both as the af response speed and as an overall yield. Very recommended, as they say, in the old barrel there is good wine.

Pros: well-built

Cons: Fragile

Opinion: This lens is useful to go to the mountains and go to the parties due to make a close overview..... if I took a few pictures!!!! When I used it I liked it a lot because I could take pictures with particular angles and views. I didn't notice any problems with the savedine, the cold and the damp! Too bad it's not in production anymore!!!!! What a beautiful goal....

Pros: Compact, light, well built, 16mm

Cons: Thin paralight.

Opinion: Finding it again I think is now difficult and this is good because the price of the new was decidedly high while used is at really good prices for the type of lens that it is. The lens is well built, the dials, both zoom and focus, have a nice resistance and are solid. The real strength of this lens is the 16mm that compared to 18 can make the difference especially on the road, the compactness and the reduced weight complete the whole thing. Probably does not excel at anything, I use it with d7500, but it does really everything well so it turns out to be a great travel companion, even stabilization helps, it is not exaggerated as the latest models of Tamron, but it still does a good job. If you are looking for a comfortable travel lens without spending as much (otherwise there is 16-80) I think this 16-85 is really valid.

Pros: Focal hike, construction, excellent lenses, a real handyman

Cons: Brightness

Opinion: I have been using this lens for several years with great satisfaction: it is built very well, it is light and covers a wide range of focal lengths for which it has become my main optics especially for travel. The brightness is not at the top but the price of this optics is definitely proportionate to the performance. I also tried the 17-55 F 2.8 But, sinceramnte, I find it a little overvalued for what it costs. I recommend absolutely the 16-85 that you can find used at affordable prices.

Pros: 16mm excellent, good mechanics, excellent stabilizer, excellent lenses, very versatile, very good construction

Cons: Brightness 3.5/5.6

Opinion: I received it as a gift from my girlfriend, and next to the excellent Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS, on Nikon D7200. I use it both for work and for "light" outputs. The construction is very solid, it is compact and manageable, excellent metal attachment with a gasket (the build quality outclasses the Sigma mentioned earlier). Excellent the zoom ring, but all in all fluid, has a distance scale, ultrasonic autofocus (very fast) with the possibility of overriding with a special AF ring, and a stabilizer that I think is excellent (has the double function " Normal "and" active ", and compensates for up to 4 stops). The focal excursion is its strong point, on APS/C It covers practically all focal lengths from 24 to 120mm, succeeding to compensate for most situations. Unfortunately the diaphragm is not fixed and closes quickly as you approach the 85mm. But it must be said that already at TA is very sharp, especially in the center, and returns remarkable results. Shooting in raw you keep away aberrations and vignetting from images: The files are practically perfect. I found the resistance to flare and backlight excellent. I have not found astigmatism or coma, point objects remain such. The level of detail of the lenses is very high, the 24 MP of my D7200 are not at all "castrated", although we are talking about a zoom little more than "amateur" (very relative term, nowadays). If you do not pretend to use it in extreme light conditions, is a fantastic lens, versatile and excellently built, with excellent sharpness and a blurry all in all good, if you know "pull". Rated 9.

Pros: Sharpness, Excursion with 16mm starting, Versatility, Excellent construction quality

Cons: Brightness

Opinion: Great goal. From the first impressions it is solid and although it is not a professional goal, it is definitely a good bill and many "professionals" use it because of its extreme versatility. Personally, I am very pleased and the 16mm dx start is crucial, allowing you to lighten the load when it is not possible to carry too many goals with it. Sharpness is its strength, at any opening. This lens from the top on landscape photography and street. Surely it does not excel in portraiture, but I would not be so overly critical of blur as other users, although of course many other goals go beyond this. AF not fast but precise, it does not disappoint. The new one presents high prices, which do not reflect the high competition found in the used. I recommend looking for a good one and so doing you have a 300% deal. In summary it is a versatile, sharp, well-built objective and despite it's notA professional lens, is immediately below them and primates among the prosumer. It is not an excellent product in anything but it is winning in everything and has no defects that are worthy of note. The maximum opening is a defect, but if you want to go down to a 2.8, you have to open the wallet a lot more.

Pros: Excursion, Sharpness, VR, Weight. Price of the used.

Cons: Brightness, blurry.

Opinion: I think it's a really wonderful goal. Even if you hear very conflicting opinions. Very sharp at all openings; at 85mm it's maybe a little dark. Very solid and compact, with a really efficient VR that compensates for at least 2 or 3 stops at the most closed diaphragms, at 85mm you can shoot up 1/15. Of course nothing can be done for the opening and, in fact, it is certainly not a lens for portraits: the blurring is definitely not its strong. Removed from this objective limit is a lens of those that you struggle to detach from the machine. The color rendering is on a cold thread and has very contrasting, almost harsh shadows typical of the next generation Nikon. The colors are bright, present. Accurate AF, although not fast for photo hunting. Great on easel for architecture and nightscapes. Taken by curiosity I recently bought the 17-55 f2.8 used, with the intention of evaluating it, comparing it and maybe replacing it at 16-85 (nice effort, you will say). Surprise: in my opinion you can keep both because they have really different uses. The excursion of this makes it a real all-rounder and the optical quality with intermediate diaphragms (f5.6) is really very similar. Sure the 17-55 is as superior as materials, blurry and made colors, but it is really very heavy and expensive and on top of that it is without VR; not to mention that the range of focals makes it much less versatile. In the end, I see many reasons to prefer this. On the D7100 it provides a truly remarkable pairing, for an enthusiast. By the way with the release of the "son" 16-80 f2.8-4 is also used at attractive prices. I think it's the best walk-around on DX. Maybe it's not great at anything, but it does everything very, very well. If you want more in this segment, there are only pro lenses. Above average.

Pros: Sharpness, weight / size, focal length range that includes the 16mm to its first end

Cons: Scale of the lack of detail focus, brightness

Opinion: After you have had for some time from the 18-55mm kit D5100, I chose this handyman that I held for over four years and has proved a great traveling companion. Long used with filters (polarizer, IR and ND), in the landscape and in the long exposures, the 16-85mm proved a fiasco only in portrait, where he also focal right, but as the older brother 16-80mm, the highest focal does not have sufficient aperture. Fortunately, compared to the big brother, it has a cost much lower (paid around 560 Euros in 2012-2013) and allows those who are at about the average cost equipment to take home an object with astonishing clarity. Fantastic yield of D7100. Unfortunately, Nikon has not yet designed a worthy successor of 'outdated 17-55 f2.8 for APS-C format.

Pros: good sharpness

Cons: Little light, thin lens hood

Opinion: I was reading reviews about this goal, a user said that found no difference between the 18-105 ..... now I wonder: who made this recession sá least like you're holding an SLR? !!!! RnIo I own it and I can assure you that this is very good buy and the price that it costs is worth them all. I make this objective the comparison with a Tokina 16-50 f / 2.8 and I can say that the difference in sunny days is minimal, certainly in poor lighting conditions on the Tokina vince.rnPer me is one of the successful end of mediocre goals home Nikon.rn

Pros: Versatility, construction, general quality

Cons: high price, not very fast autofocus

Opinion: I have this lens since I bought my first SLR (D90) because I did not buy the objectives proposed on the kit, has fulfilled all my expectations and needs of amateur and neophyte has accompanied me in many situations (and still does). A versatile lens, solid feel and which offers the possibility of a 16 mm that are really few and a 85 mm which can detach the subject well from the background and offers a nice blurred. I'm not complaining about distortion, vignetting, aberrations, which are all problems recoverable in a click in the post but still have not found exaggerations in this field; The VR system is really very good for the panning, it happened that focus has been inaccurate few times but generally works well even if it is not very fast but in line with the class of non-professional goals. Given the competition (also from other manufacturers) I do not recommend the purchase of this new lens, unlike a good used think is the right compromise with the possibility (who all optical parent company) of rivenderlo in the future without losing much

Pros: Wide focal excursion, 16mm, robustness

Cons: Price, minimum aperture diaphragm

Opinion: Bought (used since the price of the new!) To replace the 18-55 of the kit, I used it in almost all of my photos mounted on my D5100. A good travel companion and exit view the wide focal excursion. Positive 16mm (a distortion I find it obvious, in two seconds in PP disappears!), Are a good compromise for those like me who did not want a wide-angle as a first goal, intended for use almost daily. The weight was a defect at the beginning, now a year away I have to say that I do not pay more attention. Unfortunately the minimum opening is a big deficit ... f3.5 / 5.6 makes it definitely dark! Unfortunately we have to adapt to this. Finally the bokeh is practically non-existent ..

Pros: zoom range and robustness

Cons: hood a little weakling to a view that you end up traveling for use in 80% of the shots

Opinion: Buying only the body of a D7100, I bought used to replace 18-55VR I had on the D80, the zoom range of about 24-120 FF equivalent, makes it interesting as optical everyday, 16mm behaves well, I did not notice flare or other aberrations that highlight utenti.rnLa find it obvious distortion at 16mm, 85mm are more than enough in the city or in the mountains where you can do even flowers or butterflies manolibera.rnLo buy back and recommend. rnCredo that your Nikon to release a new optical brighter (New 16-80) has been very good because I think the lens is right for a traveler and deserved a bit more quality (we shall see) .rnA quest 'optical I matched Sigma 8-16 and Nikon 70-300VR, so I am to have 8 to 300mm a quality more than honorable.

Pros: 16 mm

Cons: flare and distortion to 16 mm, price

Opinion: Bought to replace 18-105 mm kit, I am satisfied only partially. Convenient to the 16 mm that makes the difference compared to the 18 mm (2 mm at the wide-angle are significant), but is a bit short. It is also not negligible flare to 16 mm, as well as the distortion at the edges. All in all I would not recommend it lightly, it could be worth considering the objectives of other brands, if you just do not have the need for a wide angle a little more stringent (and this is the real strength of this goal).

Pros: Build quality, 16mm, practicality.

Cons: Cost, flare, suffers with little light, quality / price ratio.

Opinion: Purchased to replace my d7000 18-105, has not made noticeable improvements in terms of the end result would justify the amount spent. For sure it is well built, the vr second generation is performing and 16mm make the difference but, in contrast, can not be ignored flares and especially the low light. So if you do not want to spend a fortune to immediately zoom-opening steady, my advice is to keep for a period lenses kit, set aside a bit 'of money and then jump on optical brighter or buy it used.

Pros: Build quality, zoom range, image stabilization, sharpness, autofocus.

Cons: 16mm distortion, vignetting, flare, overcharge.

Opinion: The lens is built with quality materials and a feeling of solidity and strength, I understand a wide range of focal lengths is a great all-rounder, the 16mm are very helpful and you feel much difference with the classic 18mm. He has a good yield and is very sharp, very fast autofocus though not always precise, is equipped with the normal 16mm active.rnA distortion and vignetting are sometimes quite pronounced but correctable in post-production, for the vignetting is simple, distortion can not always be eliminated altogether, especially for what is on the edge of the frame. Another flaw of this perspective is the flare, always there if you do not use the lens hood .. but would not call it a real defect because the use of the lens hood eliminates the problem. rnTrovo that the sale price is really too much, I was able to make a comparison (not depth) with the Nikon 18-105mm and I could see that the 16-85 is superior in almost everything but I would have some doubts inthe state that the difference in yield between the two is enough to justify a price difference of more than EUR 300, whereas it is still a zoom and the brightness is not eccelsa.rnTutto all it is an excellent lens and I feel provide advice to people who want more of the classic 18-55, 18-105 kits. If you plan to upgrade to FF in the future, better think about or look in used because if you go to resell it, unlike other optical, does not keep all the worth buying, even if still under warranty.

Pros: Sharpness, 16mm, robustness, VR (both normal and active).

Cons: A little dark.

Opinion: I bought this light years ago and, coupled to the D300S, was a great traveling companion. rnRaggiunge an excellent sharpness around 5.6 aperture and is spectacular at night photos mounted on 16mm cavalletto.rnI have their importance, especially in landscapes and panoramas, although you have to pay one bit of attention to a distorsione.rnDiventa little dark in photos indoors when not using the flash, and going with the iso will affect the quality of the image (do not worry, it resolves in post production) .rnPrezzo no small feat, but, in my opinion justified by the excellent workmanship , robustness and especially dall'escursione focal: 16 mm, with the 85mm that make this lens is a wide angle enough that prompted a great tele.rnLo sells only if you really want to get serious and go to optical professionali.rnConsigliatissimo, vote 9.0.

Pros: focal length, mechanical image stabilization

Cons: high price

Opinion: It is a lens very versatile, optical sufficiently sharp and contrasty and accurate in focus, both in automatic and manual. The zoom is smooth, but stable, even when the machine is hung around his neck. Especially on the road, on my D-90, I used it with great satisfaction. A very good image stabilization compensates for brightness is not high. The price is rather high; recommend to evaluate the 'buy on the used market

Pros: Focal length, auto focus, sharpness, color rendition, build quality, VR.

Cons: The price of both the new but also the used, the maximum aperture, optical quality that does not depart too much from some younger brothers from kits but they cost 3 times less.

Opinion: E 'was my first zoom lens after the 18-55 kit. The improvement was more than sensitive, I've photographed in the rain, the cold, damp and optics has always emerged beautifully. The focal length is comparable as the angle of view to that of a 24-127 in the full format, then by all that is needed for the photographer reportage, travel, street; 16 mm and then they all feel. The autofocus is fast and accurate even in non-perfect brightness as well as the VR is effective, I took to the maximum focal length with a very long time (I think 15.1) with substantial results. The only flaws are the brightness; joined to a camera body like the D3000 where to raise the ISO over 800 is deleterious unfortunately often the lens in question is too dark. Also in use by portrait we say that you can not get a cut of the subject from the background due to the too small aperture. Another flaw in my opinion the worse the price of this lens is on the backis on second. Very often overestimated.

Pros: Sharpness ever. Great zoom range. Great portraits 50mm. Stabilizer exceptional

Cons: The dark. Hood too delicate.

Opinion: A great all-rounder. Put and what you can do "almost" everything. Sharpness from fear even without stabilizer. A good buy even if in the end, not cheap ... At full zoom range becomes very dark and creates some distortion at the sides. Quality of materials is very good, you can see and feel that it is of another manufacture. The lens hood, very thin, I consider it very delicate. Anyway, recommended!

Pros: A good all-rounder for those who do not like to change the objectives clear but not very generous in brightness and tropical conditions and for whom the car c has always following me and as good. Great Stabilizer

Cons: A rather buietto 85 and the lens hood if you do not use it to remove it and obligate risks always leave around the hood pretty much too small and fragile price

Opinion: In sum and a very versatile as discrete optical optics only for those who do not like the optics often replace the advice in the panoramas great portraits with strong light sources even in photos defends pretty well although it had the vr and very impressive compared to the 18 - 55 series of kits nikon light and handy, however do you aprezzare especially in the wide-angle shots

Pros: Focal length, VRII and better materials than the kit lenses.

Cons: Price, a bit 'soft 85mm.

Opinion: I bought this lens to replace the kit (18-55 without VR) that came with my D3100. I immediately felt at home there (16mm F3.5 can also be used in a creative way), and zoom all in all works fairly well to 85mm despite being a bit soft and not exceptionally bright. How to zoom "handyman" use it a lot, because it is a little heavy and not cluttered with too much given that this is renunciation of the brightness of the longer focal lengths. In principle, it is just a little 'off' price 'as the new one is really expensive and should definitely go on second (for the price of the new alternatives are no longer valid). The MAF is also fast enough for sports (I photographed several ski races with this lens), while the indoor one must inevitably go to other lenses due to its low brightness.

Pros: Sharpness, focal range and manual correction of the focus during AF internal

Cons: Cartoon a lot, is dim, dark indeed, precisely, the stabilizer is not much vaunted amazing

Opinion: Bought and paid for objective professional "hearsay" where everybody talks about it well, I found myself very badly. He looks very lean and economical. the hood is very thin and very fragile. The much-touted 4-stop stabilizer is not worth what they say. many goals "inferior" have brighter, better stabilizer and appear even more rewarding asteticamente. It seems to have about a 18 55 a kit for beginners ...... the photos are crisp but much cartoon at maximum aperture at all focal lengths and more openness is very limited in time and forcing ISO much higher than I repeat, combined with the handsome little stabilizer creates blurry images often making you miss the best moment of the scene ...... nikon first lens of my story and maybe last ....... although I'm considering a super telephoto 70 300 IF the nikon that others seem to remain a little behind on this end ......

Cons: Opening in the media, it may be a fault!

Opinion: Purchased used after using for a couple of years the 18-105, because I can not give technical specifications are not up to do so, but just plugged in reflex, I noticed immediately the structural differences of the body lens with the 18-105 (another planet), but the best is when you try to make some shots, the speed of focus and 'fast, no uncertainty, the VR system and' effectively double the stop of the previous year. The 16 mm is a good step "back", very very comfortable. I only regret not having purchased it before. Cons: Dark!

Opinion: An excellent lens for DX with a great range of focal lengths, in practice you carry a wide angle to medium telephoto in a single lens, good sharpness, not excellent in the highlights in my opinion, VR really great, the product is expensive given the competition and the fact of having a ridiculous opening, do not say it had to be an f/2.8 but hell they could do given the price f / 4 or at most a constant f/3.5-4.5

Pros: effective stabilization, judge focus maf, focal range, good construction, lightness and versatility, bokeh soft as pillows.

Cons: low brightness, price esageratissimo, and (personal opinion) lack of function macros.

Opinion: personally I find it a lens useless, as it comes with an excellent stabilization, but a very low brightness, which forces you to go up to iso or time or aperture. and therefore the dop, sends is: what is a very good (not great by) stabilization if I should still use more time in the majority of cases? where is the advantage? rnrninutile even for beginners, as it is impossible to manage themselves with diaphragms, and the depth of campo.rnprovata of d90, I was not convinced at all, useless even for portraits between 50 and 85 mm, as c 'is in need of much more diaphragms aperti.rnrnpersonalmente not recommend it, and at a lower price is a good zoom tamron 17-50 vc 2.8 fixed, and maybe we will run away with the amount requested for the 16-85 well as a macro nikon 105 mm ( D of course, and used). rne indeed, it seems to me just a gimmick entirely commercial, and not of a company that makes equipment more than 60 years of optical qualità.rnrnpoi in my opinion (but according to ME) would not hurt the function macro, something likethe sigma 17-70. but I guess the price would've risen further exaggerated by at least 200 caffè.rnrnsconsigliatissimo. is better understood as "the most useful and usable."

Opinion: TOP is not a view, but it definitely has an above-average quality, and this justifies the higher price of direct concorrenti.rnL 'range from 16mm to 85mm make it an excellent all-rounder leggero.rnA 16mm vignetting evident, but not excessive, for the rest good sharpness already wide open, flare content and a mechanical quality ineccepibile.rnOttimo the VR, is easily snaps to 1/4-1/6 of focale.rnrnCaldamente recommended; to find better, and not always, you have to get to various f2.8 but at prices much higher.

Pros: Build quality, excellent stabilizer, sharpness, light and compact.

Cons: Poor lighting, excessive price to pay for it.

Opinion: At first glance, you quickly realize the build quality of this light. The 16 mm. you do well to note the presence of the usual 18 traditional aps-c. Turn the dial to the focal it has the feeling of robustness and quality. Maybe a little excessive price to pay for it again ... but they are money well spent. I recommend it to all those who want an all-rounder qualità.Ottima extreme sharpness of images by closing the aperture a bit.

Pros: 16mm (feel), good stabilization, construction, SHARPNESS

Cons: purchase price out kit, a bit more brightness would not hurt.

Opinion: Purchased in kit years ago now, and it took me a good week to decide between this and the 18-200. Brave choice, but I do not regret it. This lens perceive as very underrated. It has proven immensely clear to unrivaled levels for the 18-200 (I breathed a sigh of relief when I was able to compare them). Those in more than 2mm wide are felt. It 'a zoom-rounder that does not go too far, and always gives priority to the picture quality. Was a little more light would be a masterpiece, but it saves a VR efficient. I recommend it to everyone.

Pros: Good construction and strength, very useful focal length range.

Cons: Price overblown if not purchased in kit.

Opinion: I fully agree with the views expressed so far. However I want to emphasize the strength of the lens itself and the sensation to the touch especially when you are controlling the zoom ring that has a fairly clear impression of rigidity and pleasant. The display does not affect very exciting for me considering that it's still a 'specific optical for DX. I can say that it is expensive, but in the end if you buy a kit you will save and cons compared to 18-55 and 18-105 have the attack of metal instead of plastic, a feature that pays in the long run especially if is changed often the objective.

Pros: VR, useful range of focal lengths, sharpness

Cons: brightness, vignetting at 16mm prounciata

Opinion: The only flaw of this view as already pointed out by others is the brightness is not high. That said in a handyman to zoom aperture much prefer stabilization (the vr works well here). The price is a bit 'salty (like all Nikon lenses ..) but the sharpness is great at all focal luckily already at full aperture. As in the 15-85mm canon is known to the angle setting a pronounced vignetting, improves by stopping (pp is easily remedied though). Strongly recommended.

Pros: Stabilizer effective. Range of focal lengths from perfect all-rounder.

Cons: Maximum aperture rather modest.

Opinion: Replaces the dearly 18-55 and 18-105 kit. Compared to these has a more robust construction and provides a window with the distance scale. Although the focus ring is of a completely different quality. The stabilizer of the second generation works well and also have the option to pan. The optical quality is good but not outstanding, but the brightness is rather modest. The price is in line with the quality of the product, a cheaper alternative could be the opening with Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.

Pros: Optical quality, VR, very versatile focal range, performance at close range

Cons: Mechanical construction a little 'economic price above the average brightness is not exciting

Opinion: It 's the classic goal-rounder, with a small but very useful focal range and quality very high. The 16mm are made immediately and feel the difference with the classic 18mm can be appreciated immediately as a major field of view covered. The stabilization is very well his duty and compensates, in part, the brightness far from exciting. Good management and reflected in the backlight and very good performance at all focal lengths and at any aperture. A 85mm, for example, the highest quality is obtained already at full aperture (f / 5.6), diaframmando is only increases the depth of field. The best alternative may be old but still valid 17-55mm f / 2.8, but this has a focal range of lesser weight and a much higher price, accompanied by a qwualità not dissimilar.
