Pros: Detail, precision, speed

Cons: If weight is a limit... There is always a good smartphone

Opinion: Surprising in all phases of recovery. Prompt, detailed and precise. Difficult to put in crisis proved to be a good companion on the X-M 1. Obviously you have to settle for 16 mpx, the absence of the viewfinder, the absence of the level plus other things. But looking in the pockets of memory for something you always take home. And with satisfaction.

Pros: Tropicalized optics, solid construction, well finished and made almost entirely of metal, stabilized, af precise, fast and very quiet, sharpness overall satisfactory!

Cons: You have to accept compromises, at f / 4 it is always fairly soft especially at the edges, even more at 16mm as at 80mm ....... nothing dramatic!

Opinion: My opinion on this objective is unfortunately not entirely positive, in the sense of; Weeks have passed now never since the purchase and I have already used it enough to realize its potential and I state that all in all, if used with due attention, it is not so disappointing as they say in some reviews, certainly it has shortcomings that certainly do not benefit its reputation but it also has excellent qualities. The defects of this lens in my opinion are: first of all it is a zoom lens that is never able to reach or almost, an excellent sharpness (for these performances it is better to fall back on a fixed), reaches a sufficiently good level at times excellent this yes, but never sharp in particular, from 16mm to about 20mm and then from over 70mm up to 80mm any aperture you use, almost all of the image is always a bit soft, vice versa, in the intermediate zoom range and that is from 20mm and up to 70mm, with aperture closed at least at f / 5.6 and up to f / 11 without closing further, we get beautiful images with a good level of sharpness and detail but even here unfortunately the edges not even so extreme, They are never as sharp as the center. As for the merits of this zoom I can tell you that: it is tropicalized, OIS "up to 6 stops", it is a lens made almost entirely of metal, it does not have excessive weight, it has a very well frictioned zoom ring as well as that of manual focus, it has a very precise autofocus system, super responsive and above all it is also extremely silent to such an extent that it is difficult to perceive the noise of the mechanisms interior, has a very versatile focal range the so-called "all-rounder", does not alter the wonderful Fuji colors, the barrel at maximum extension has no play. Considering that we are talking about a standard zoom not considered professional, with a constant maximum aperture of f/4, well! I think some compromises are legitimate.

Pros: focal range, fixed F4 aperture, weight and dimensions, autofocus, balance

Cons: TA sharpness, lack of stabilizer selector

Opinion: I have been using this lens with satisfaction for several months, replacing the 18-135. First of all, the range of focal lengths combined with the fixed F4 aperture makes it very versatile for different genres, from landscape, reportage, street, portrait, travel. It is a perspective that I use very often especially in excursions and travel and in all those situations in which you want to do a little bit of everything. At the level of construction I find it very well done, light and balanced, the excursion of the barrel is not excessive and the zoom rings and apertures are well frictioned, that of the MAF is rather soft. The stabilizer is a strong point of this lens, you take home sharp shots with times of 1/15 to 80mm quietly. The focusing speed is excellent and quite precise, but it also depends on the camera body used. I find it a bit soft at TA, it definitely improves by closing at F5.6 up to F11, then it starts to drop sharpness again, a normal feature for this type of zoom lens. A pity also the absence of the stabilization selector on the lens, you need to access the menu or assign the function to a button on the camera. In conclusion, I think it is the best compromise at Fuji in the category of all-round zooms, if you enter the Fuji world I think it is the first lens to buy to do a little bit of everything.

Pros: versatility, autofocus, build quality

Cons: not particularly handy for an ML apsc if you do not need a tropicalized optics.

Opinion: I do not like to write reviews but here I would like to give my contribution to positively re-credit this lens so awaited and then discussed due to some disappointment. In my opinion its reason for existing lies in versatility because it covers the statistically most used focal lengths .... and I think this is really a great value. In addition (it has already been said) it is tropicalized, has an excellent stabilizer, a valid AF. But then the flaws? well, maybe the price. However, being optical in kit, there are excellent recent used. I bought it for 470 euros from a practically new kit. The size? Yes, the 18-55 is more maneuverable but has less hiking and is not tropicalized. Sharpness? In my opinion it is good, I perceive it better than 18-55. The blurred also. I leave aside the comparison with the 16-55 first of all because I have never tried it and then because it is an optics with very specific characteristics for professional use, for better or for worse completely different from the 16-80. So it is a great lens to exploit on vacation, in reportage, in free time. A valid alternative to 18-55. Between 18-55 in the second-hand market there are about 180 euros of difference but if you want a little more IQ, excursion and, why not, tropicalization, the money spent in more is really worth them all.

Pros: Optical quality, excellent stabilization and tropicalization, excellent sharpness you can use screw filters

Cons: Aperture ring a bit hard, but nothing changes me

Opinion: I gave away the fixed to take this new lens all do for convenience, I own Fuji for years and then I turned lenses, but this after all the negative voices I heard, in my opinion they are all words, this lens is anything but, excellent sharpness already at f4, and works very well closing 2 stops even you have edges, the stabilization is excellent on x-s10 despite the fact that the body is also stabilized. In my opinion, ( sick of detail and sharpness ) and a valid lens to be a zoom, higher than the Fuji 18-55

Pros: construction, autofocus, tropicalized.

Cons: MAF ring a little too soft.

Opinion: Honest optics but still kit not to be stabilized and built really well. sticker a little, I recommend leaving the corrections active in the car if it is annoying. I see it as a handyman's lens suitable for amateur photos who want to take it on the road or for even mountain trips. Combined with xt3 for portrait I see it a little too soft despite the stabilizer and af are excellent.

Pros: Great construction, including lampshade.

Cons: Price, absence button att./disatt. Stabilizer

Opinion: Just taken, very interesting optics, a good compromise for an all-rounder, some small flaws but it's a zoom and I think you can not get much more as long as you spend more. I'm still in the testing phase, for now I'm very satisfied, I hope I don't have any bad surprises... [ I have to reach 350 characters but I don't have much to add :-) ]

Pros: quality and I add image as well

Cons: I honestly didn't find any

Opinion: I disagree with the criticism of the image quality of this view: in my opinion the photos it gives are clear and free from showy aberrations; the construction is also impeccable, appreciable the constant diaphragm on the whole excursion, the clutter is all in all limited even if it is dysmaced with cameras like the XE3. It is the ideal travel or excursion optics to use as a handyman to never disassemble

Pros: Good build quality, cap and lampshade finally discreet, stabilizer, WR

Cons: Poor IQ at extremes (diaphragm and focal)

Opinion: I thought about it a long time before I wrote a review on this lens, I have a veneration on the Fuji brand, I had good expectations, it will certainly not be 16-55, I said to myself, but sure a good upgrade on 18-55, what to say: a big, huge disappointment, I did not believe it and I tested two, trusting that the first had failed, but nothing, tested with both T2 and T3 with the same results, will I have caught two failed lenses? At this point I hope so. The build quality is good but not at the levels I am used to with Fuji, especially the zoom is very snappy, even the diaphragms' diaphragms' diaframmi is, but less so, the cap and the lampshade, a very good barrel, has finally improved. But let's come to the real sore notes, the 16-80 is dignified, I repeat dignified from f/5.6 up to f/11, outside it is not unsatisfactory only at the edges, but it is the whole frame has suffer from an unstatal image and also kneaded; same talk about the focal, good in the middle, at the extremes is in great difficulty, at 80 is for me practically unusable, you save the AF and the stabilizer, even if the 6 stops declared are only science fiction. From a lens that costs 800 degrees I expected much, much more, can not stand the comparison even with the smallest and least expensive 18-55, which as a lens everything do at this point still remains the reference point if you do not want to turn on the 16-55. In conclusion my vote on 16-80 is abundantly insufficient, although I resented I gladly separated, returning to use the old 18-55.

Pros: WR, stabilizer, focal excursion, weight, size, autofocus speed

Cons: price, edges at some focal points

Opinion: I purchased the 16-80 to use it with XT30 and XT3. It is an ideal lens for travel and for the landscaper because of the range of indoor focals, weight and size. Use 72mm filters, a nice convenience for those who also have the 10-24. The stabilization is great and is also tropicalized unlike the 18-55 I had before. Compared to this it is bigger and heavier but not by much and perfectly balanced on the XT3 while a bit big on the XT30. The weight is well distributed and even on the XT30 the combination is not overly heavy on the front. Compared to the 16-55 it is noticeably lighter and more compact, more than the datasheets suggest, with yield close to this in the center but undoubtedly lower than the edges. The autofocus is quiet, fast and precise. As an optical quality you have to consider that it is a 5x zoom so the weak points are the F4 edges at 16mm and in the range 55-80 mm. Closing at F5.6-F8 improves slightly. Compared to the 18-55 it is a much more comfortable and versatile lens probably penalized by the high price.

Pros: WR,OIS, FOCAL EXCURSION.

Cons: IMAGE QUALITY.

Opinion: I purchased the 16 80 for my X-T3 in early December but the lens although updated to firmware 1.02 had obvious micromosso problems with active stabilizer in combination with mechanical shutter and very poor sharpness to all focals and openings so much that I suspected that the lens was defective due to too many obvious malfunction problems. I decided to contact the shopkeeper who accepted the return with replacement on the trust. The second 16 80, always updated to firmware 1.02 did not present the aforementioned malfunctions so finally I could start testing it really. From the beginning I noticed that image quality in general is good or just enough by comparing it with the photos taken with the 18 55 that won hands down. More noticeable distortion, more noticeable vignetting and above all from 55 to 80 poor image quality even in the center of the frame. Having bought it just for those 25 mm more the disappointment was so much. I recently took a trip between Myanmar and Thailand where I only took with me on 16 80 and in these days that I am looking at the photos the limits mentioned above have been highlighted in all the shots taken at the various focal points and diaphragms confirming my disappointment. With all this I photographed magnificent places and I like the photos but not in terms of quality. I sold the 16 80 to the shopkeeper and bought back on 18 55 receiving thankfully an excellent economic treatment. UPDATE 21/10/2020 On the fourth attempt I finally found a copy of the Fuji 16 80 that works as I expected it to work since the release of this, long-awaited, slow one. Above you will find my review that demolishes this lens in comparison with Fuji 18 55 but instead this time my reviews will be to weave its praises. Fujifilm wand for the lack of attention put into the quality control of this lens because to find a properly functioning one it was like winning a third to the lot considering that all the copies I handled seemed to have an impeccable construction. Updated to the latest version of firmware 1.05 finally the stabilizer works well without interfering with the image quality that honestly seems very good both in the center of the frame and at the edges on all focal points with the best that gets to f 5.6 - 9. Doing trials on tripod comparing it with the 18 55 that I still possess there is a clear advantage of sharpness and above all almost total absence of chromatic aberrations that are instead very intrusive on 18 55. Considering that it is a zoom with a wide focal excursion I find it a great travel companion both (finally for image quality) for compactness for lightness and tropicalization. The price remains high but if taken in kit you take home at the right value. I use it on the X-T3 with which it balances perfectly.

Pros: Compactness, solid construction, 5x excursion, WR and OIS,

Cons: button absence on the lens to insert or undock the OIS

Opinion: I had the opportunity to have the optics (a demo) on trial for a week thanks to the availability of my trusted shopkeeper. The first tests were not exciting and many photos were completely blurred (or moves?). Then the firmware update (1.02) solved every problem. I then purchased the optics, which gave me performance consistent with the demo tried. In my opinion it is a good all-rounder goal, able to give the different focal points more than dignified results, sometimes excellent (if you use central diaphragms, from 5.6 to 11). In my opinion it guarantees better results than 18/55mm, at least in my case, which I have consequently resold. I have many fixed goals and I can say that they certainly guarantee a higher sharpness, at least to the more open diaphragms; but being a 5x zoom this is physiological and, of course, you have to make informed choices depending on the different photographic situations to deal with. Sometimes it may be preferable to have with it a good zoom 5x light and versatile like this 16-80mm which, I must say, has already given me several satisfactions. Finally, I found the stabilization system very efficient and I very much liked the reappearance of the diaphragm diaphragm diaphragm. The construction is in Fuji's usual standards. Recommended.

Pros: Construction, compactness, speed and precision maf, stabilization, lampshade

Cons: Optical yield does not excel at the most open diaphragms (it is better between f. 8 and f. 16), evident distortion between 16 mm. and 22 mm., slightly soft between 60 and 80 mm.

Opinion: I was undecided whether to replace the old "all-rounder" 18-55 f. 2.8-4 with this brighter and more "extended" zoom or with the 18-135 f. 4-5,6 and then I tried the specimen of my friend. Good feeling of robustness, a little less weight and clutter. Excellent focus speed even with little light and excellent also the stabilization that allowed me "stop" shots at 80 mm with times of 1/25". The result, however, disappointed me a little because the most open diaphragms (f. 8 down) I did not find the same homogeneity between the center and the edges of the image; 16 mm. 22 mm. there is a bit of distortion, much more than the 18-55 which is more correct and sharper. It is not an optic store but if one buys it to take advantage of its brightness and - of course - the most open diaphragms can face some disappointment. Basically, I decided to keep the 18-55 not deeming the value for money of this zoom convenient. I'd say eight and a half.

Pros: Light, construction, minimum distance, stabilizer.

Cons: Paraluce, 16 mm no at maximum angles only enough and this also applies to focal 70/80mm.

Opinion: I had long had waited a long time for a Fuji optics all make extended focal for travel, mountain, Mtb bike excursions. Pros: Excellent fluid dial construction marked various AF diaphragms very fast and accurate, excellent stabilizer. Cons: paralight too small, very high distortion on the wide-angle side small criticism my reason in general high on wide angle zooms Fuji the 16 mm not at most especially at long distance not exciting and this also applies to focal 70/80 mm scarce corners. Other: Or written a lot on this optics I wanted to defend unfortunately many photographers with couple problems the three four-time update version for 16-80 definitely with problems. Personally I would say a successful optics I did not expect miracles from a 5x zoom otherwise I choose fixed optics or more than one zoom I would say one compromised for photography trips if you want to bring a single optics otherwise I would advise against the 10-24th 55-200. In the end it or sold it as general quality angles better zoom 16-55.

Pros: Focal excursion, material quality, minimum focus distance.

Cons: Cost based on optical yield. Lower optical quality than almost all focal points and diaphragms compared to 18 55 f 2. 8 f 4.

Opinion: I wanted to try to improve the optical quality, already excellent, that I get with my zoom Fuji xf 18 55 f 2.8 - f4. For the highest quality both in landscape and Street use fixed optics, the 14 2.8 and the 35 f 1.4. I bought the fuji 16 80 F 4 to test it and because it has a perfect focal excursion for my way of photographing... That is, trips, Street, mountain.... priceless excursion 24 - 120 with f4 opening in full format! Let's start to say that it is well done, in my opinion it is very well balanced even on xt 20 or 30, better with additional handle. It is light and with an excellent quality of materials and assembly, tropicalized, stabilization of 6 stops (I think real less.. let's say 4?) ... The zoom dial is fluid and has a mown end of running, which from a sense of pro lens. Even aesthetics, with the lens attached to even small bodies like xt 20 by a sense of "serious" goal, and this can be good, but also bad if you want to go unnoticed. So I compared it to the 18 55, at 18 mm, at 35 mm, at 55 mm, with openings of f4, F5.6, F 9, F 11, F 13,F 16. The result was that I made back the 16 80 f 4.?? He practically lost at every focal and diaphragm with my immense pain?? Only at 55 mm at F4 is sharper in the center, but not at the edges. I think it's a great thing to do if you don't want to bang on to change goals and just use that. Otherwise for image quality better keep the miraculous (seen the price) 18 55 f 2.8 - 4, and match fuji quality fixed and the excellent xf 55 200. I use the xt 30, but for larger machine bodies type xt 2 or 3, or h1 is also great the 16 55 f 2.8. If I were to switch to larger bodies I would have to compare it to the little beast xf 18 55 which for now remains unimpressed by changes. This is my experience, obviously there is a lot of talk about variability of lens yield, maybe it's very sharp my 18 55 f 2.8 - 4, or I found a bad version of the 16 80 f 4.

Pros: Compactness, excursion 16-80, WR and OIS

Cons: Not excellent sharpness at 18-16 mm. f11.

Opinion: I hoisted it by virtue of its excursion, knowing full well that it could not give performance from fixed lenses, I did a lot of tests, in comparison with the 18-55 that I own (and I intend to keep it) basically from 55mm up to 35 the two are equal, tested with f 4 - f8 - f 11 , where it loses in sharpness the 16-80 is to mm 18 and 16 but only to f11 because f8 are equal again, homemade tests on easel (with OIS active) with a doll as the subject, with the XT2, updated lens with firmware 1.02 In long night exposures , from 20" -30" if you do not disable the OIS on the machine is a disaster, but disabling it is all OK.

Pros: Sharpness, Tropicalization, AF, size and weight (for a zoom) and stabilization

Cons: mmm boh, I'd say none! The price may seem high but absolutely in line with the product category.

Opinion: I tried it a bit and in my opinion it is a perfect optics for travel or in any case photos to not too moving subjects such as landscapes, cities or people posing. It has incredible sharpness! If you like I did a review comparing it also with Fujinon XF fixed and a little pixel peeping on my youtube channel, at the url https://youtu.be/fHmq-EkeDuc

Pros: WR, Weight, OIS, Compactness, Focal Excursion

Cons: perhaps the lampshade? but deep down they never gave me any problems.

Opinion: Edit at 18/10/2019 Updated optics and machine with new firmware I carried out several tests, on 2 or 3 photos identical to the same conditions every now and then some photos looked much more opaque and not as sharp as the others (you could already notice to monitor the Xt3 after the shot). Tests carried out at various focal lengths and diaphragms. I gave it back to Amazon today.

Pros: Weight, Ois, WR, Sharpness Focus Excursion

Cons: Ordinary building material of the Lamplight

Opinion: After a weekend of tests on 16-80 f 4 I can give a first judgment and I would say that it works well I have to take the hand at the ois (I have never had any goals with this system since I have always had fixed and that Nikon VR works differently...) and understand when I have to use one setting and when the other but overall I would say well the lens is very light balanced as few you do not feel it even after several hours of work around the city equipped on XT2 without BG... I took some photos in different situations and has always behaved in line with my expectations, surely it is not the optics that makes you cry out to the miracle but not even a zoom that passes in anonymity. One of the things that really surprised me is its OIS 6 stop system less!!!! on static (logical) subjects I managed to shoot at 1/4 by releasing images without micro moved!!!! its AF combined with the XT2 without the boot of the BG is really effective (100 times faster than that of the 56 F1.2 in line with that of the 35 f2) I found every shot from 16 to 80 mm even if from 35 mm up is a blade. F4 is for many a bit dark but if you do not want to use it to take pictures of athletes in the middle of the night and similar things is fine for most situations its blurry is pleasant without artifacts. It's WR ... not essential but to use it is a nice thing I look to test it further during holidays and trips where the moment is fleeting. let's see what comes out. A really performing all I would say money well spent
