Pros: Compact, light, quick, with a "retro" flavor, great start to avoid zooming, price.

Cons: CA, poor sharpness at TA

Opinion: I'm a lucky man in buying used material: I've never had a rip-off (for now...). I bought this lens more on a collector's whim than anything else. At the bottom I have a brand new 24-70L f4 which is really an all-rounder. So what? Yes, I really like the golden dash: sometimes there are L series, like the 85 or the 100 macro. This is not, it's not one of them: it's an honest lens that does its dirty job. It has an interesting focal point that allows you to range from the landscape to the Street to the photos of the hill trips to the framed portraits. It has good colors and returns files workable in terms of chromatic and spherical aberrations. Vignette a little but what you want to do, it's a lentinthat that makes you forgive everything: just keep it hooked for any exit and you will take home some nice shots. On FF it's also good for selfies: turn the car and press the button. Other than cell phones... I come back serious (although the comments above were sincere and responsive to my true impressions). The 28 can become LA lens to be mounted when deciding that photography can also be done by walking to look for the frame without taking everything to a zoom. When, in short, you want to take a step back to more consciously face the steps you will take forward. Compared to the price on the used, it is a fantastic lens that must be known.

Pros: Bright, low cost, light, AF lightning-fast and precise, good blur, a blade if you close a bit (except the edges)

Cons: Chromatic aberrations, soft to TA, distortion (correctable with LR)

Opinion: Bright lens that can give great satisfactions from the point of view of Reportagistico and portrait set; Use with EOS 6d. I also tried it on APS-C (50d) But it didn't give me a good feeling at the focus level mainly. You have to know it and it requires to approach the subjects and to move very in phase of shooting and composition. This at the moment is my focal point most used for the double reportage because it offers the possibility to include also what is around the subjects, with a pleasant blur. Distorts and vignette a bit but nothing incorregible in post.

Pros: Approximately normal and standard on APS-C, bright lens, always nice photos and features, fast autofocus, full time manual focus, balanced lens on entry level body, affordable price from an amateur even on the new

Cons: Considered by the online reviews surpassed compared to modern lenses especially on full frame and machines with very busy sensors: adequate in my context of use, evaluate opinions of other photographers with equipment and usage context more similar to Just

Opinion: I have only one camera body APS-C (1000d) and on it use it as normal standard bright lens; Very pleasant and soft colours, good isolation of the subject in the photos thanks to the wide opening, very comfortable in the evening and night even in interiors, competitive price also on the new; Maximum sharpness of my copy at F 3.5 across the APS-C frame; Recommended

Pros: Speed ??and precision focusing, high sharpness in the center even at TA, construction, color rendering, overall yield of the optics.

Cons: Not very clear to TA at the edges (but I do not consider it a cons as aware of this and also purchased for this particular yield), Purple fringing (but no more than other "bright" lenses).

Opinion: I bought it recently used with original lens hood. I really like it, I use it on 5D markII. It has a particular yield, let's say "vintage" to (perhaps) understand ... Speaking of all openness (purchased especially for indoor use for portraits and / or with the subject in the foreground with a gradient background) I'm really satisfied. At the center is very clear, at the edges there is a decay of sharpness but in a pleasant way that highlights the subject that, given the characteristics, must be at the center (and not at 1/3 canon). The colors are really beautiful then. I have 85mm 1.8, then I took the 50th stm and then this 28mm. I sold the 50ino and I took the 50mm 1.4 which is of the same USM series of this 28 and 85. In addition to aesthetic and constructive level I find many similarities in the general rendering of these three optics. I like it a lot. As an amateur photographer, I also feel a bit "fetishist" and seeing them all together gives me great satisfaction (what do you mean?).

Pros: Construction, size, weight, AF, optical quality. Chromatic rendition.

Cons: Clare, but I like that vintage rendition of it in backlight

Opinion: Updated review in 2018: A year after its purchase I can say that I am fully satisfied. We start from the building, really solid. Much better than the 50 1.4 of the same series and equal, instead, to that of 100 F2. The AF is lightning-fast, silent and precise. About optical Quality If you read all the colors on the net. Exceptionally sharp in the center, I found it sharp at intermediate diaphragms and closed also on the rest of the frame. Today they are fashionable super sharp from edge to edge, this lens, compared to the weight, cost, brightness and overall yield, has little or nothing to envy to modern lenses. The blur is very characteristic and the color rendition is not too saturated. Why did I buy it? Because with Canon's Triad 28-50-100/1.8-1.4-2 USM, I have a perfect backhoe for my needs and that is to mediate between brightness, optical quality, weight and compactness. All three with the same diameter filters. Also I have a similar color rendition on all three lenses and this facilitates me in post production. I bought it new because I am convinced that often the bad reputation of optics born in the years 90 is due to the fact that you test and buy old copies. It is true that the optical pattern does not change over time, but in 30 years I am convinced that surface treatments and glass processing due to new technologies have changed, and maybe even improve the optical qualities, you never know. Not to mention that mechanical and software updates of the AF engines are performed which are therefore more reliable. Ultimately I judge it a very good purchase.

Pros: Construction, af, price in the lens lenses prince for reportage

Cons: No hood, rendered to the edges of TA on FF (however not dramatic)

Opinion: Excellent, even at full aperture has a great sharpness in the center, it is the lens for reportage and street. Obviously not the best for landscapes is not his job, but behaves more discreetly. The 28mm focal point is a must, without any distortion, I am fully satisfied with it, it is 200, which makes it a great buy! And the quality is excellent although in the net they feel different opinions and opposites

Pros: Light, luminous, excellent quality already at TA.

Cons: For the performance price none! I just poured a blurred but nervous twist.

Opinion: I've been looking for this lens for a long time now, and I've finally found it. Analyzing my shots in some scenes I used the 28mm zoom lens with 24-105L zoom but I always missed at least 1-2 stop in the interior. Now with the 28mm 1.8 I go quiet.rn I have to dislodge the MTF curves and various tests where it turns out that apart from the center the edges disgust even by closing ... my specimen is great, a blade at 2.8 but defends well af /2.0. A TA 1.8 is just a soft pelina but is recovered immediately in PP. It has a very clear central area of ??sharpness that allows it to make beautiful set backs and impressive blur effects. The blur is durable but still pleasing. If you developed RAW with a SW at the height (DXO use) it really pulls out the top cover + lens.rnHo also the 35mm f / 2 old which is not bad at all but ... not using as much 35mm ... I put it down and maybe I sell it. In terms of AF it is a true lightning suppur the lens has its years (as a project). Ultimately, I'm happy and I recommend it to those who like me on the 28mm and the serYou have a fast, bright, portable and quality lens. Perfect for a 28-50-100mm triad of the same serie.rn

Pros: Very determined already in f1 .8 (Center), from 5.6 to 11 and the bands extreme. AF outstanding: lightning-fast, silent and accurate sniper, do not miss a shot in the dark either. Well done. Lighter. Small. 58 mm filters. Cheap (especially looking good from used).

Cons: Pronounced chromatic aberration (especially on foliage backlit). Resistance to backlight acceptable/good. Wastes no outrageously contrast but they come out a few stray light (however small and maybe sometimes "effect"). Blur good sometimes cranky, but I don't see ever annoying.

Opinion: I tried the 28/2.8 IS as a replacement to the old, but still valid and "microscopic" EF 28/2.8. I came across an opportunity indispensable and so eventually I took the above f1 .8. Use it on the 5 d and 6 d. My copy, on my way to photograph, it was a pleasant surprise. The sticker right, I leave again in post as well as the distortion (if desired, take them off in 1click). Definitely a hard choice compared to the new 28 IS (I read improved throughout, but "only" 2.8). You should try them both. I see well especially for action shots/reportage, for reduced weight and dimensions/AF making deadly blend.

Pros: Construction, Yield, AF speed, Sharpness

Cons: Finding none, perhaps I am vignetting but in my opinion is very pleasant

Opinion: Despite the different opinions I decided to buy used, having found a deal and wanting to have a fixed set "low cost" (28, 1.8, 50cc and 100 f2) of 6D ... It will be lucky my copy, but I find it perfect, crisp the center already at 1.8, fast AF, pleasing to both the blurred that the colors and so the vignetting, relatively light, focusing distance reduced fire for close up. For me it is a sight to be used!

Pros: Construction, color rendering, bokeh, brightness.

Cons: Sharpness, flare, no hood, soft at room temperature, slow AF.

Opinion: Got used with the lens hood when I was still on aps-c, it was my first hard, and reduced size was equivalent to a 45mm, so a good all do. He gave me some good shots, just because he took out the beautiful colors being bright and had a nice bokeh, everything else was a disaster. Unusable up to f / 2.8, zooming the images were all mixed, especially at the edges (behaved better 18-55), resistance to flare nonexistent, despite the hood, you only had a bit of sunshine and shot undergone a huge violet ray, hard to delete PP, slow Af or closed diaphragms that open. Once I switched to FF I really started to hate him, Because you have over defects already mentioned, the large format proved versatile little. Luckily after a bit of time I was able to sell it. Perhaps I was I unlucky with my copy, but this has 28mm pretty disappointed. Not always a fixed is higher than a zoom. On APSC it is more versatile, but on FF advice or a 24mm or 35mm.

Pros: Ergonomics, construction, weight, AF, brightness, versatility. And, all in all, price.

Cons: Relatively little sharper at RT. But guys, pull out a 1.8 from a 28mm must have been no picnic for the Rising Sun engineers.

Opinion: This is a perspective that has always gathered little support among photo enthusiasts, while for years has been popular in the professional photojournalism and reportage. In short, coupled with the 5D / 5DII 1.8 and 28 have won plenty of examples World Press Photo and illustrated thousands of items and services. Now perhaps not, given the chance to work at very high ISO without problems (who would have thought that one f / 4 zoom would have been so present in the professional bags!). It 'a lens to be given a chance, maybe to try because it has the advantage of being very reliable inividiabile constructively, beautiful hand-held, light with a focal rather fortunate, and all at an acceptable price. Do not underestimate the blurred that allows you to have an opening like that, that expands a lot of possibilities. I then for my sake, I sent her a ride to calibrate it in Peschiera Borromeo and returned in great shape. If 28 is the focal for you there is the case that no lasThere more the machine!

Pros: Construction, Weight, Fast AF, bright colors, versatility and even on APSC. Excellent value for money.

Cons: Sharpness drops to full-face edges on FF. But not dramatic.

Opinion: Exceptional lens really !! Bright enough. The 28mm focal length is very versatile on both FF and APS-C. Almost everything is done. I bought a copy of the new one. Very clear specimen especially at the center of the image. On the edges there is a sharp decline but I do not find all this loss of quality as many say. The most open diaphragm is physiological loss of edge quality. Then I will repeat some 28 mm maybe less successful, mystery of canon. I would highly recommend !! Beautiful.

Pros: Building, Weight, lightning-fast AF, 7-blade diaphragm, colors, versatility and performance even on APSC

Cons: No lens hood and pouch in the delivery made to the edges at TA FF (but not dramatic), AC

Opinion: Also I have decided to buy the lens in question since I needed a wide angle lens is very bright for churches / interior and love the 28mm focal length on Photo-Reportage and giornalismo.rnPremetto who are in possession of the 17-40 f4 lens spectacular in many points of view - landscapes and perspective with this exceptional 17mm glass - but I needed more light and I could not economically opt for the 24 1.4 L2 (The top of the house on the market in Canon). rnHo read on the forums a bit 'of everything on this lens, but the review of Misterg had convinced me to first lettura.rnL 'I purchased the 9cento of Pavia (which I recommend as a shop at 360 degrees) and also the shopkeeper, an expert on the subject, I suggested buying. rnMi would say that this lens is OUTSTANDING davvero.rnLo use on FF (5Dmk2) as a wide-angle lens and focal 600D as "normal" and I must say that the performance of my specimen is exceptional in both casi.rnAd an affordable price you will come home a lens with a solid construction and fine - you can already see the first impact - and with a perfection and an optical qualitynotevoli.rnL 'AF is lightning-fast and accurate in all situations, the colors are bright, saturated: beautiful, it is fuzzy and soft that gives the drama and atmosphere that only those who use landlines can understand, use, by choice, very white black and sepia tones in Post Production, and I must say that this lens seems made for this purpose: sensazionale.rnIl control the depth of field is nice and the ring of MAF manual is soft and smooth to the point giusto.rnNon I noticed this tremendous drop in sharpness at the edges of FF that many annotate, and already at 2.5 the lens is a blade opening you can use fast times, suitable for the Reportage and marriages; on APS-C 45mm Focal is a beautiful, very interessante.rnVengo from an L series, and I've tried the 24 1.4 II series courtesy of a friend (SPACE, mind you: already f 1.8 is a razor and the edges are stratospheric) but I guarantee that there is a gulf between the two lenses, especiallyWhereas the second coast three times this .... rnLo detachment of the subject / object from the background is stunning, on FF the images seem to have "life" covering the reportage shots, people, street and portraits ambientati I would say this lens returns "something" missing fotografo.rnPurtroppo hood (purchased separately), and soft case (I have a lot of care of the lenses and both are very important for me), but you can still buy separately; as for the 85 1.8 - another fantastic lens of the same series - there is the problem of chromatic aberration - however solved with Lightroom or Photoshop in post-produzione.rnOnestamente are positively impressed by this lens that I recommend 100% for those who practice my genres and I never sell: I repeat that the 24 1.4 L II and I also believe the 35 L are higher but the difference is minimal when you consider the price of the two lenses: 28 1.8 for me this is in effect a series The mancato.rnrnRobertornrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrn

Pros: Construction, Af, brightness, color rendering

Cons: Risolvenza, the absence of the lens hood, flares

Opinion: Objective among the least understood of the web. Reason for the bad reputation the yield undertone to the edges to greater openness. It is certainly not a landscape lens, but a true champion from the price still affordable for portrait and street. Light and compact but the construction is equipped with an AF cured reliable, accurate, silent and fast. The old school and the class of the past emerge in monochrome images. The colors are always of the highest level even when the contrast decreases a lot when shooting against the light, which show a lack unforgivable in the scope, the lens hood!! If you want a wide-angle light without spending over 1000 euro there are better alternatives and also the 24L and 35L are not without difetti.rnrnSalut

Pros: Solid construction; Resistance; precise Autofocus

Cons: Sharpness poor; Shortly versatile on aps-c; Price

Opinion: I bought this lens for use on my 60D. I believe that this is a fixed superluminoso, the overall quality of the photos in terms of sharpness was comparable to the performance of 50 1.4. I made a big mistake: the niitidezza leaves much to be desired and after several trials I realized that my photos were not qualitatively superior to those taken with a mid-range zoom lens with the same focal length. I believe that the review of this objective should be severe enough considering the fact that it costs almost 500 euro. Honestly after keeping it a couple of months now ... I sold my car putting on 17-40 which gave better results for the same focal length. Money down the drain then.

Pros: Construction, autofocus, Versatile for APS-C, Bright, Very sharp centrally

Cons: Sharpen the edges to poor Aperture open only discrete diaphragmed

Opinion: Despite very mixed reviews that you find on the net, I also decided to buy this lens for use as a standard light lens on my APS-C SLR. The building, in relation to the price, it's really the highest level in terms of ergonomics, compactness, solidity and aesthetics. The autofocus, as well as fast and quiet, is very reliable even in low light conditions. The manual focus ring is wide, without yoke and perfectly balanced in terms of scrolling. Centrally, the sharpness of a TA is the most acceptable, but already at F2 or F2.2 better good results are obtained, and from F2.5 to F11 lens is a knife. At the edge of the speech is different: You get good results from F8. As for me, I use the widest apertures for photos to people indoors and outdoors without worrying about the edges that are still pleasantly blurred. If I need a lens to completely clear apertures would let stand the lens in question. If I want to qualche landscape shot just close to F8 to get a good overall sharpness and beautiful colors. The lens is virtually free of vignetting and a slight but not negligible distortion and chromatic aberration. The latter two problems are easily solved in PP. Overall, for the use that I do and the price is not exorbitant, a really good lens.
