Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by Emmegi59

sony_a7r_iiSony A7r II

Pros: Sensor, compactness of the system (with fixed lenses not extreme), excellent electronic viewfinder, very efficient MF, excellent AF (at least for those like me who do not use it for sports photos or birdlife) very convenient Q/P ratio

Cons: From the ergonomic point of view and the usability of the menus I used better. Others against, for my way of photographing, I do not find

Opinion: Amateur photographer for 50 years; of cameras (between analog and digital) I used quite a lot. I used for years analog SLR cameras before and digital later and in all frankness I must say that I do not regret them. A bit of nostalgia perhaps for the old mechanical and great respect for the digital SLRs that still perform their task perfectly but since I started trying the Mirrorless, well I no longer wanted to go back. The Sony A7r II I currently use is, as I can tell.... Exaggerated! For the kind of photography I usually practice (landscapes, street and portrait) it is perfect. The sensor, as many have already written, produces images of the highest quality. I compare this camera to the car I own; is a hybrid car with a high-performance mixed propulsion system (one endothermic engine and two electric motors). It is a car with a double personality: I travel at reduced speed consuming very little fuel, or when for example I want to complete an overtaking safely I can push decisively on the gas to have (thanks also to the instantaneous torque developed by the electric motor) a rapid acceleration. Well, this Sony is a bit like this: very powerful in RAW at full resolution when needed but with the possibility of reducing the file size saving memory, without losing too much quality. I use it with a very compact 45mm and I feel very comfortable; I have a system of the highest quality, rather versatile and very light that I think soon to integrate with a good wide angle bright but not too heavy. I put everything in a small thinkTANK bag (I can also fit a Flash and a small tripod) and I move easily without too many impediments. This camera, equipped with three fixed lenses of good brightness, will be able to have its say for a long time to come; I am more than convinced!

fujifilm_xt3Fujifilm X-T3

Pros: The best APS-C on the market, it's fine for everything, unless.......... see below

Cons: If you look at the 100% monitor-enlarged photos and maybe examine the pixels with the magnifying glass at the entomologist's view, don't buy it; take a megapixellata FF and you will live happily. If you shoot by candlelight and you want pictures reminiscent of Barry Lyndon, ditto as above; get yourself an FF.

Opinion: I took the XT3, I welded the 50mm f 1.4 to the machine body, I develop the RAF with Capture One.Little weight and very high yield!AF very fast, great the viewfinder and fantastic to use with all the adjustments through the ghieres clearly visible even with camera turned off! If you are not pixel peepers and not snapped in the pitch dark, best machine you will not find on the market.

leica_x_typ113Leica X (Typ 113)

Pros: Absolute quality in construction, even in the smallest details; SUMMILUX optical yield 35mm equivalent; very easy and intuitive in adjustments, RAW files of excellent quality

Cons: Get yourself at least one spare battery and a good easel.

Opinion: I have not yet had the opportunity to use it as I would like, however after a couple of months I can give some impression of use. Cameras I've had many and of almost all brands, this one, even with the limit related to non-interchangeable optics, is really a bit special. Turn it on and you instantly realize that this is a photo-taking machine and not a computer! If I think of the "informatic" follies that have slipped into the Olympus, Sony and beautiful company, well here is all other music, with four clicks (and here the keys really click!) you adjust the camera. A menu that is clearer, immediate and easier than that you can't. Constructively, which I tell you to do, it is a small tank: as I mentioned above the operation of the various keys and selectors is of absolute precision; plastic you will find very little, here you are dealing with a block of solid metal. The small pull-out flash can help, just to give a flash shot of filling in the portraits. Coming to the sensor/optical yield I would say that the quality is there, the 16MP sensor works very well in pairs with the fabulous SUMMILUX F 1.7 Aspherical. I do not use JPEG, RAW files have very little to envy to the rest of the company; I compared the photos taken with the small Leica with those made with Canon 5D Mk II & III, Olympus OMD EM1, Fujifilm XT2 and Sony A7 II, under optimal light conditions I would say that the SUMMILUX takes to slew many fixed optics emasked by other brands. Painful notes, yes something there is: the APS-C sensor is a bit dated and is not stabilized, I rarely shoot above 1600/3200 ISO, if you want the 5 million ISO maybe it is better to turn elsewhere. The advice I would like to give, as already expressed by Typ, is to use a good easel when the light is scarce and is not of good quality. With the camera on easel and ISO bass the photo comes out and it's really very very good! The crosshairs.............. missing, yes sure you can buy the additional eye but it is not the same thing. They had put the fabulous Olympus stabilization system and the electronic viewfinder of the Canon R............ for all that good of God there is SL2 but you have to spend nice money. Battery life is poor, better to have at least one spare with it. All in all if you can do without the viewfinder and you like the 35mm focal, this is a small big camera!

canon_24-70_f4isCanon EF 24-70mm f/4 L IS USM

Pros: Very sharp in the center on all focal lengths, good at the edges at maximum aperture, excellent at f5,6 and f8. AF lightning. Very efficient stabilizer of the latest generation.rnContrast and color rendering very good. Macro function.

Cons: I have not found any

Opinion: Purchased to replace the 24-105L.rnI 24-70 L shows a high sharpness at the focal points 24 and 35mm.rnIl 24-105L, at least the one in my possession, was lacking on the wide-angle focal lengths; the edges were very unclear.rnThe 24-70 L compared with the 24-105 L is much sharper, even at the maximum openings.rnCerto the 35mm in most often made comfortable but the price to pay, at least on the lens in my possession, it was really too high in terms of sharpness.rnA true shame because the 24-105 L was excellent under all other aspects such as AF, contrast and color rendition.rnAlso 24-70 L is excellent as regards the AF , the contrast and color rendering with the plus of the stabilizer (very useful) of the latest generation and the Macro function (not 1: 1 but still true Macro) .rnNot a handyman zoom perhaps a little less versatile than the 24-105 L but of the highest quality!

samyang_7-5_fisheyeSamyang 7.5mm f/3.5 UMC Fisheye MFT

Pros: Extremely small footprint. Very sharp even at TA.Rapporto Q / P.

Cons: The very small size makes the MF uncomplicated.

Opinion: I did some tests; well I have to say that at close range the sharpness of this lens is very high, to the point of overcoming the coupled 5D II + 50mm, really impressive! Accustomed to the large ring of my 45mm I have to say that the ring of this fish eye is very tight and therefore not very easy to operate. It will not be the most versatile lens in the world but if used with judgment it gives great impact images.
