E' noto come nella sua residenza cittadina di Palazzo Madama a Torino la Duchessa Maria Giovanna Battista di Savoia Nemours amasse circondarsi di arazzi, specchi, argenti sontuosi e cineserie. Rimanda quindi al suo gusto raffinato la preziosa scrivania mazzarina in prestito dal Museo Civico d'Arte Antica di Palazzo Madama, con il monogramma della duchessa intarsiato sul piano e sui fianchi del mobile. Strettamente legate al carattere femminile di questi ambienti, sono qui riunite le Muse di Antiveduto e Imperiale Grammatica, vertice della pittura caravaggesca in Piemonte e già in antico nelle collezioni sabaude.
