I vecchi maschi, quando invecchiano perdono progressivamente i colori vivaci e stanno ben attenti a non entrare in conflitto con gli esemplari dominanti. Preparando il viaggio ci eravamo fatti l' idea che avremmo avuto l' opportunità di fotografare i mandrilli anche in aree aperte ma, rimanendo sempre nel fotto della foresta, non è ai stato possibile fino a quando, finita la nostra ultima escursione ( c'era chi aveva già riposto l' attrezzatura nello zaino e stava salendo in auto... ) mi sono accorto che il vecchio maschio, seguito da alcune femmine, aveva l' intenzione di attraversare la pista uscendo finalmente allo scoperto !! Ogni tanto capita che l' occasione tanto attesa si presenti proprio all' ultimo secondo.......... Riguardando le foto è sempre più forte la voglia di tornare magari facendo un viaggio che consenta di fotografare tutti ( o quasi ) i grandi primati africani: gorilla di montagna e di pianura, mandrilli, scimpanzé, amadriadi, gelada e babbuini.......
