Dopo essere state lessate a fuoco a legna in grosse vasche di pietra, le alici vengono esposte al sole distese su grandi teli direttamente appoggiati a terra per il processo di essiccazione naturale (vedi sfondo) alla fine del quale vengono inserite in capienti sacchi di iuta per la distribuzione all'ingrosso. I lavoratori sono tutti birmani (riconoscibili tra le altre cose anche dal thanaka spalmato sulla pelle del viso delle donne) emigrati in Thailandia.
