In my life,
I have seen hundreds of documentaries on Africa, however I have never come across a scene like this proposed by the author, whom I thank for filling my gap on the hyena-man.
But dwelling only on the detail in the foreground would not do justice to the complexity of the image, which makes it "immersive", to the point of making you feel the smell of dust and the voices of children sitting on the -credo- baobab.
Congratulations to Mauro De Bettio

Beautiful image and document. This trip to Nigeria is exciting me. Wonderful photos and many things to discover that personally (great lover of travel and Africa) I ignored.
Thank you very much Mauro for sharing with us.
Congratulations
Luigi

The teeth (and the bulk) of the beast are scary, and knowing that those who hold it on a leash are not entirely in strength shows that you have also had a beautiful liver.
so... Double E.P.!

This is a valuable photograph, despite the electricity cables.
Kind regards

despite the electricity cables

In this case I think they give aesthetic value to the image. I think it is no coincidence the composition as performed by Mauro. If they were in another position, and without this pleasant diagonal, they would only be disturbing.
This is my vision ;-)

Thank you for your intervention Francesco.
In fact this is a shot studied in 4 days of inspection. Time spent before the hyena men allowed me to portray them.
I don't mind the cables either. In fact, I think they balance the giant baobab on the right. The only small flaw is that boy + hyena are no longer central. But it was such a difficult shot to achieve that I'm very happy with the result.

Something I haven't mentioned before. The hyena was terrified of my presence. He could smell me and see me over 100 meters away. So imagine when he had me a few meters away with the camera in his hand ..
Thanks again to all for the nice comments

Ah... this is beautiful, the hyena that is afraid of the photographer! Maybe he didn't trust your ability?
For me the photo is what it was supposed to be: a bit of a rule of third parties that allows you to accommodate the baobab and its occupants; as for the wires, but this is a photo of "reportage", so why retouch reality?
