Ho da qualche anno un 400mm 2,8 is II, dopo aver posseduto l'ultima versione non stabilizzata e diversi vecchi tele sempre 2,8 Canon FD. In tutti ho sempre apprezzato la possibilità di inserire filtri da 48mm sul cassettino posto nei pressi della baionetta, soluzione che permette, per chi come me lo usa anche in ambito astrofotografico, di potervi inserire filtri per ridurre l'inquinamento luminoso, che nelle versioni da 2" (2 pollici) presentano proprio la stessa filettatura. Purtroppo però nel 400 2,8 is II il cassettino non presenta più la filettatura ma una specie di finestrella per applicare scomodi filtri in gelatina. Per aggirare questo problema mi sono costruito (usando tornio e fresa) un cassettino in PVC nero con la tanto amata filettatura. In questo modo posso tornare ad usare tutti i miei filtri nebulari e fare altri esperimenti, quali l'inserimento di una lente per risolvere il problema dello sfocato "nervoso" dovuto ad una sovracorrezione dell'aberrazione sferica che ho riscontrato in ben 3 esemplari della stessa ottica testati. Vi mostro qui il confronto tra lo sfocato ottenuto usando il correttore ( a sinistra) e la foto dell'ottica di serie.
