Istanbul 2015 - Volta della moschea di Fatih (il conquistatore). La moschea di Fatih era un complesso di edifici religiosi e civili senza precedenti; fu costruita nel periodo 1463-1470 per ordine di Fatih Sultan Mehmed. Venne eretta sul sito della chiesa bizantina dei Santi Apostoli, demolita nel 1462, perché in rovina dai tempi della quarta crociata. La moschea venne progettata dall'architetto reale Atik Sinan e fu il primo progetto monumentale della tradizione architettonica dell'Impero Ottomano. La moschea originaria venne gravemente danneggiata nel 1509 dal terremoto. Dopo essere stata riparata venne poi nuovamente danneggiata dai terremoti del 1557 e 1754 e riparata ancora una volta. Venne poi completamente distrutta dal grande terremoto del 22 maggio 1766 quando la cupola principale crollò e le mura furono irrimediabilmente danneggiate.
