La chiesa di San Grato, in mattoni a vista, fu edificata nella seconda metà del 1600. Fu voluta dalla popolazione di Sala Monferrato come ex voto dopo una pestilenza e per proteggere i raccolti dalla grandine. Stando alla memoria popolare l'intera popolazione salese contribuì alla costruzione della chiesa, formando una catena umana che, dalla fornace del paese, consentiva il trasporto dei mattoni fino al sito prescelto. Negli anni il sito cadde in disuso e questo provocò un peggioramento delle condizioni strutturali. Un gruppo di volontari salesi cominciò ad occuparsi dell'edificio, in stato di grave abbandono e prossimo al crollo, con una serie di iniziative mirate alla raccolta dei fondi necessari per il recupero. Nell'agosto del 2016 la chiesa di San Grato viene restituita alla comunità di Sala Monferrato. Il portone centrale e le due finestre laterali sono ancora da completare e si spera che possa avvenire a breve, fondi permettendo.
