La tonnara di Scopello, che si trova nel territorio di Castellammare del Golfo, è un luogo unico dove mare e storia si incontrano in una bellezza sconvolgente. La sua origine è antichissima, venne costruita nel XIII secolo e poi notevolmente ampliata dalla famiglia Sanclemente nel corso dei secoli XV e del XVI. Passò quindi alla Compagnia di Gesù e infine alla famiglia Florio raggiungendo in questo periodo il suo massimo splendore e importanza. Dopo il 1962 il pescato continuava a diminuire a causa della scarsa presenza di tonni in tutto il mediterraneo. Nel 1984 ci fu l'ultima mattanza, e la tonnara cessò definitivamente l'attività produttiva.
