Poiana "fit" ???? sent on November 13, 2020 (15:51) by Mauri. 22 comments, 379 views.

at 400mm, 1/2500 f/7.1, ISO 800, hand held.

Chiede a qualcuno più esperto di me, se questo rapace è una poiana "calzata". L'ho ripresa oggi nel Basso Ferrarese, e che credo essere piuttosto rara, nella mia zona. (IMHO).

Hi Mauri, the answer to your question is in bare tarsi, as you can see well from the photo.
The fitted poiana has feathered tarsi, as the Italian name suggests.
This is a common poiana at a clear stage, an ind. of sure Nordic origin.
If you do a search with "buteo buteo pale morph" you will find several photos of individuals similar to the one you portrayed.
sighting, by the way!

Hi Ravenick, thank you for your clear and detailed speech, with which you have clarified several dubbbi; I will tell you that in a birdwatching manual, I found the reference to the "fit" poiana and it is very similar to that of the shot; but in fact the tarsi are naked and so everything is clear.
thank you, and I will certainly do the research you suggest to me.
A greeting.

Hi Mauri, the specimen you photographed I think is a common poiana with light plumage, probably coming from the north. Common pitches vary the color of plumage with shades ranging from very dark to very light depending on their territorial origin and age. Below is a more detailed mini explanation.

Hi Lux67, thank you for your visit.
It gave me the same indications as you, ravenick, so I have no doubt that it is a common poiana, but on an identification manual, the reference to the "fit", reports a photo identical to that of my shot, for this reason I had some doubts.
're going to have a way to talk about it.
The picture isn't much, the light was bad, I couldn't get close, so I took it from about 60/70 meters, then croppato.
A greeting.
