Uno stupendo sito di archeologia industriale fa compiere al visitatore un vero e proprio viaggio nel tempo, alla scoperta della radicale trasformazione di un territorio. Il Museo della Bonifica si trova nell'ex impianto idrovoro di Ca' Vendramin, dismesso verso la fine degli anni Sessanta del secolo scorso. Il museo illustra l'azione svolta dall'attività di bonifica con il prosciugamento di paludi e acquitrini per rendere vivibili aree in continuo equilibrio tra terra e acqua e consentire lo sviluppo economico del Delta. I lavori per la costruzione di questo gigantesco impianto idrovoro, fra i più grandi e potenti conosciuti all'epoca, iniziarono nel 1900 e terminarono nel 1903, mentre il collaudo fu fatto nel 1905. Per ottimizzare i lavori di bonifica integrale, il territorio dell'isola di Ariano venne diviso in due bacini: quello superiore e quello inferiore. La funzione dell'impianto di Ca' Vendramin fu quella di sollevare le acque di tutto il bacino superiore e immetterle nel canale Veneto, ovvero nell'emissario che a sua volta le convogliava in prossimità della foce del Po di Goro e quindi, attraverso un sistema di "porte vinciane", faceva defluire in mare tutte le acque in esubero. All'interno dell'impianto di sollevamento furono installate quattro pompe in grado di sollevare complessivamente 11.000 litri al secondo, tramite motrici a vapore azionate dalla combustione del carbone. L'idrovora fu progettata considerando un dislivello fra il pelo d'acqua del canale in entrata e quello in uscita di 1,128 metri in condizioni di marea ordinaria (un dislivello che poteva arrivare a 1,705 metri in condizioni di mare agitato). Nel 1921 l'impianto fu convertito parzialmente a trazione elettrica, mentre una turbina alimentava due piccole idrovore poste a circa cinque km dall'edificio principale, per iniziare a bonificare anche il bacino inferiore e completare così, con ben più potenti mezzi, l'ambiziosa opera di redenzione delle terre del Delta. L'impianto idrovoro di Ca' Vendramin svolse le sue funzioni fino alle disastrose alluvioni del Po di Goro del 1957 e del 1960 con le quali, a causa del fenomeno di subsidenza e con lo sprofondamento dei terreni, il regime idraulico del territorio venne totalmente sconvolto rendendo inutile la funzione della colossale e imponente idrovora.
