Ero andato per fotografare l'anziano fabbro della Val Pedogna, di cui tanto avevo sentito parlare. Una volta raggiunto quel luogo magico, un "altrove" immutato da secoli, mi sono imbattuto anche in questo ragazzo d'appena vent'anni, che stava diligentemente imparando dal nonno l'arte fabbrile. Le loro strade saranno inevitabilmente diverse. Carlo, sino all'ultimo, continuerà fedelmente a coltivare come un monaco la tradizione del suo mestiere: forgiare strumenti necessari alla casa ed all'agricoltura. Il ragazzo ha tutta la vita davanti, in un mondo che cambia così rapidamente. Non so se continuerà a produrre manufatti che serviranno ancora alla "vita" delle persone. Mentre lo fotografo, con sullo sfondo il nonno, ho la sensazione che diverrà un'altra cosa. L'ultimo testimone di un sapere umile e profondo che merita di essere custodito e raccontato. Si esprime in modo calmo e appassionato. Sono sicuro che ne sarà capace..
