Pontia edusa, (Fabricius, 1777) - Famiglia Pieridae - Sottofamiglia Pierinae - Apertura alare: Da 3,3 a 4,6 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni ad eccezione della Sardegna, della Liguria e di parte delle Alpi orientali. - Habitat: Essendo migratrice si può rivenire in tutti gli ambienti, dal livello del mare fino a 1400 m. Sulle Alpi e sugli Appennini anche oltre i 2000 m. - Periodo di volo: Polivoltina. In rapporto alle condizioni climatiche delle varie località si possono avere da tre a cinque generazioni che si susseguono con sfarfallamenti da aprile a ottobre. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie crucifere tra cui quelle dei generi Reseda, Alyssum, Sinapis. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Femmina con disegni neri anche nella zona marginale della pagina superiore delle ali posteriori. - Variazioni: Gli esemplari della prima generazione sono più piccoli, con disegni neri ridotti e colorazione verde scuro del rovescio. Gli esemplari estivi presentano il rovescio delle ali posteriori con disegno verde ridotto e cosparso di squame gialle e con aree bianche più estese. - Specie simili: Identica e non distinguibile da Pontia daplidice. La separazione tra queste due specie è stata accertata da pochi anni in base all'esame del DNA e a differenze anatomiche riscontrate nell'armatura genitale dei maschi. Nella maggior parte dei casi è utile considerare la separazione territoriale.
